    Default The pill and periods

I am in the middle of my pack and just got my period yesterday. What is going on. This has happened twice before, and I still get another period at the regular time. The first time was a year or so ago, the second about three months ago, and the third now. Has this happened to any one else while on the pill? I don't have health insurance so I don't want to ask a doctor if it isn't any thing major, but it sure is annoying.

Usually that is caused by not being on a high enough dosage, from what I have learned. What kind do you take? I used to take Mircette & that happened to me. I switched to Yasmine & have had no problems, except it's so damn expensive!!

Slightly off topic (I don't have any breakthrough probs with my pills), but I wondered if anyone else here orders their BC off line? It's extremely expensive out here for pills and (required) doc visits if you don't have insurance. So, for the last 5 mos. I've ordered mine offline. 6mos. for $85!! Can you beat that? And you don't have to have a prescription. I highly recommend it.

I used to have a problem similar to your problem. I wasn't taking my pill at the same time every day. My period was also skipping back a week every month. It was too weird. I went to the doc and explained my problem. She was like "any life changes or stress?" I was like "Yes lots! I'm moving to Florida (from California) with my bf for school and I'm scared as hell. She said it was stress. And it Actually Was!! :o It's Weird how your body changes over stress or emotional things. Have you considered Stress as a factor? It could also be change of diet, sleep habits, or change in exercise.

I take ortho-tri cycline. I've thought about switching to yasmine, but I'm scared because ortho-tri cycline was the only one out of four that I've tried that didn't make me act almost like my bi- polar father. It was pretty scary. Planned Parenthood has cheap b-control. $10 a month, free if you go to a clinic in a poorer area. I'd go there, but except for the emergency pill appointments usually take three months to get seen. This is why I quite going to them in the first place. Has any one else taken Yasmine? Did any one expierience frequent mood swings on it? Thanks for the info.

Is it a regular period, or just spotting? Commonly breakthrough bleeding that is caused by stress, missing pills, low doses, etc., is in the form of light spotting that is not as heavy as a regular period. If you are having a full-on period, or even heavier than usual bleeding, you may have cause for concern. Unexplained bleeding can be symptomatic of underlying disease, if it is heavy I would get it checked out. If this is the case though, I would highly recommend trying to find some insurance as these things can be difficult to diagnose.

I take ortho tri-cyclen from Planned Parenthood also. The only time I've ever bled in between periods is if I missed a pill. Be sure to take them at the same time everyday, and don't forget that if you get sick, (vomit, diarria) that can cause you to not absorb your pill and counts as a missed day.

I agree with Ara, if this happens frequently ,even when you take all your pills regularly, you should see the doc to make sure everything is okay.

Oh yeah, and as for making appointments at planned parenthood--If you say you need a pap smear/check-up then yes it takes forever to get an appointment. If you tell them you are having symptoms they usually can see you with in a week.

    Take care!

Ortho tricyclin makes me sick. Yasmin is perfect for me since I skip periods since I take the pack all the way trhu without taking the white ones. I usually get it once every 18-24 weeks. But everyone is different.

Yea, it is so expensive, especially since I renew it every 3 wks & insurance won't cover it since its "early"... my insurance has that online Rx order thing but it seems like such a hassle to sign up & I can't figure out how to do it.

Guess what. I found a little blue pill on my floor about an hour ago. Maybe it just fell out of my mouth, or slipped out of my hand when I took my other medicine. I take both in one big gulp. I don't like the taste of water so I do this to drink less of it. But this still doesn't explain the other two times.
I'll call planned parenthood in the morning.

    good luck!
my planned parenthood (in michigan) has always been really good about getting me in fast. usually with in a day to a week, so it probably depends on the location you go to. Also maybe switching type of pill would be good for you if you experience this often, they told me that if i was having ANY probs to come back and they would switch the type. (i just switched to ortho trycyclin - i was on depo and bled for 9 mths out of the year) so i don't know much about ortho...i could be in your boat in another week or so!)
