Default Do you tell people about being a dancer?

Does anyone feel strange about letting people close to you know about being a dancer, and do you feel like it is hard to keep a romantic relationship with someone and still be a dancer?
I had a boyfriend and he had a problem with it, after a while I had to let him go...I needed my space.

I didn't feel strange about letting the people I am close to know what I do, except of course my parents (I don't want to hurt them, as they have already expressed how much they would be if I ever got into this line of work).
The thing I do feel strange about is when people I don't know well, like friends of friends, who know I strip. I guess I don't like the idea of people judging me based on what I do. I'm slowely getting over that.

When I first started dancing me and my ex were talking about getting back together, but he told me very clearly he would not date me if I continued dancing. So I think it could be hard with some guys in a romantic relationship, because they get too jealous, but if they do have a problem with it...their loss.

I may be an exception, but I've maintained a marriage the entire time I've been dancing. My husband is supportive of everything that I do. Other than him, I really don't care what others think...Dancing has provided a good life for us.

I know others judge me. Even my family...I've gotten, "How can you do that? You have a child..." (This was my grandmother asking this.) Well, my child is happy, healthy, and well taken care of. So I just don't worry about what others say.

Only a few people know that I dance but my parents dont, amy aunt and uncle suspect something along the lines but if they find out, I dont mind. None of my friends know. I have told only the people I am closest too, and they dont judge me. If they do, then I couldnt care less LOL

My parents know, and everyone I hang out with socially knows. As for people I've just met, I've learned from experience to keep it to myself. I've had way to many bad or immature reactions, so its not worth the effort of having to explain myself and getting weird/intrigued/excited/horrified looks from them. When random people ask what I do I say 'student'.

Only my close friends know I'm a dancer. If strangers or people I don't know very well ask me what I do, I usually tell them I'm a bartender or a waitress. But then some people question me further and ask which bar or which restaurant I work at.

I don't tell my parents what I do. I had an office job a year ago and I only danced once in a blue moon. They think I still work at my office job. They are very conservative Catholics who go to church every week, so they would never understand. Shit, they even freaked out when I lived with my boyfriend without being married!

Only close friends know. I think is not easy to keep having a healthy relationship once the others know I dance, some became distant, some others become rude (perhaps they think "stripper" and "whore" means the same ).

Close friends know, I am very picky about who I tell about me stripping. I get so many judgements, and opinions that I didn't ask for...But people tend to always give you pieces of advice about your life that you really don't ask for.

I don't announce my job-everone else seems to do it for me. Friends bring their friends to see me. Most of my family knows. But if I had a choice, only good friends would be made aware.

I've been dancing on and off for 5 years. Some of my family members knew or suspected I was dancing when I first started. And I told my friends. I quit after a few months because of negativity from my family and my friends started treating me differently. No one close to me knows I ever started up again.

As for boyfriends you should always be honest about stripping, if they are going to care for you they have a right to know. And it saves problems later on down the road if you've been truthful with them the whole time.

It's never really had any on either for me. I've been with my husband since I started dancing, and he's been cool with everything all along...

Now if a person asks me what i do for work, i will gladly tell them, but wont volunteer the info. without them asking me first.

What is so bad about being a dancer? I am not hesitant to tell people that I am a dancer/stripper.

Besides, if I get "the look", I just tell them..."If you walked up to some guy and asked him what he did for a living and he said that he was a CEO of some huge corporation, would you look at him in total disgust? I mean, Ken Lay was a CEO, too." I am a clean dancer...maybe others don't have the guts to do what I do, but does that make me "bad"?

But, either way...I am a dancer/stripper...not a crack-whore and prositute. It doesn't really bother me what other people choose to think.
