    Default Stage Work

Okay I've worked 3 days now and I'm scared shitless of the stage. It's not that I can't dance, i'ts just my nerves get so bad I freak out and can't relax. My 2nd day there wasn't enough girls so the D.J. made me go on stage. The 1st song seemed to last forever and I did awful. My 2nd song was better b/c I was naked the tips started comming in so I didn't really have to dance much, I just collected the $. 3rd day I payed to stay off b/c I was traumatized from the day b4. I don't want to have to do that anymore. I know I need to work the stage for all it's worth. I've tried drinking and that does not work. Does anyone have any tips/ideas for me to get over the stage fright?

Everyone is scared in the beginning, but the more you're on stage the easier it gets..
I used to be terrified of going on stage, but once I got my dance moves down I loved the stage. Practice in the mirror at home to build up your confidence.
    Good luck,

I think the only reason it never bothered me was because I spent so many summers at a nude beach with friends of both genders, and became comfortable being naked in front of people. You're probly just too self concious about the way your body looks. The guy's only care that you're naked. Take a deep breath and realize what is the most beautiful part of your body. Go flaunt it.

yup, I feel ya girl. My first time on stage, I was a manaic. Way too fast, took my clothes off within the first half a song. (LOL) I didnt know what to do.
After a while you get slower, more sensual, and you learn when you should take things off, nice and slowly. Tease them
ALL eyes are on you, and you are the main attraction. WHAT A HIGH girl
Everyone is focused on how hot you look and you can totally learn to appreciate that as soon as you start to calm down and relax.

    good luck

Practice at home...and, before you go out on the stage, just take a deep breath and relax. Also, I just got this book called The S-Factor. It's really good. You can get it at any bookstore...it's usually in the fitness section. Once you realize that there is really nothing you can do on stage to make yourself look bad...you'll be fine. Just take everything nice and slow.

Yes I agree. You just need the practice. I remeber when I dreaded going on stage when I was a newbie and a few weeks later I was comfortable and Loved going on stage. It totally is a natural high if you learn to let go and enjoy it

I agree... it will take time for you to become comfortable with the stage. I was also one of those nervous newbies on stage... dancing too fast.. all moves and no rhythm.

Just listen to the music... think sexy thoughts about yourself.. don't worry what other people in the room think of you.. keep your mind on yourself (back to thinking sexy thoughts).

The more you do the stage.. the more you will find your style. Each dancer has a different style... some are slow and sexy.. others are "bubbly" (more fast)... some love the pole.. others love floor work... I am one of those that uses the pole minimally and has more "floor work" moves. That's just my thing...

Also.. you will find that each outfit you wear will also determine how you dance. Sometimes there are moves that work with one outfit but not with another... just adjust/adapt.

Once again.. the only way to over-come your stage fright is to keep doing the stage. If you can do it more with someone else at the beginning.. the better.. however there will come a time (like you already experienced) where you will need to learn how to dance on the stage by yourself.

Just be patient with yourself.. don't worry about how long it will take you to be comfortable with the stage as that is different for each person..

I know this might seem ridiculous to you now, but eventually you will agree with me. The guys are way more intimidated by you than you are of them. You are in total controll up there. Hell, even the best stage shows will tell you, it doesnt really matter what you do up there as long as you smile and are polite to customers they WILL give you their money!!! Everybody is scared at first and we all had to start somewhere. Go home get a mirror and practice at home. But the only way you are gonna get over your stage fright is to be on stage. Everything takes time and eventually you will get good. Just relax and move slowly and tell yourself that you are the sexiest thing alive and the guys at the stage should feel privlaged to have your company.

You can still make plenty of money and be a good dancer with out being a stage dancer. I've danced almost 7 years now, and it's been over a year since I've actually hit the stage. Most of my dancing career I have paid to stay off stage. As I see it, why would I want to waste my time shakin it for dollar bills when the girls on the floor are getting 20 bucks a song?

You just need to be able to market yourself if you don't have a stage show for advertisement. Be sure you stand out somehow, so that customers will say 'I want THAT girl to dance for me.' It can be done, I would say I'm considered a club favorite even without a stage act.

Though I am not a stripper, I am a trained stage actor, and I know all about getting nervous before getting on stage, and presenting myself, and there are a number of techniques we learn to relax. Ill give you 'Strasbergian Relaxation' in a nutshell. First sit in a chair, one that allows for movement, and that has a back rest. Then let yourself slump. Slump everywhere. Dangle your arms, slouch your back, hang your head. Just pretend you have no bones in your body at all. Breathe deeply, and evenly imagining a beautiful blue color coming in, and exhale a beautiful gold coming out. Dont breathe with your chest. Use your diaphragm (stomach muscles) Then you take your arm, tense it up as much as you can for a few seconds, and then let it drop. Completely relax it. Do the same for your other arm, and your legs, neck, stomach, etc etc. Let your head fall backward, and forward, and sway it like it was an elephants trunk. Keep testing your bodyparts to make sure they have no tension in them by moving them with as little muscle as you can. If there is tension, tense them up again hard, and let them fall again. Dont forget about the breathing in the blue, and exhaling out the gold. Repeat as necessary, until you feel relaxed all over. Once you get used to being on display, you will get less and less nervous. You will probably still get nervous, but its like second nature by then, and not a big deal. Hope it helps!

Thanks everyone for the feedback and advice. Oh and Ice9 that "Strasbergian Relaxation" method seems interesting, I'm definitely going to give it a try.

The nerves are natural - Liquid courage is not - I know - I used to think I had to be drunk to make money. Alcohol should never be used to relieve stage fright, if anything it makes the experience more frightening. You sound great and you'll do fine. It's easy to say, but I'll say it anyway. You have to believe in yourself before anyone else can believe in you (i.e. the fantasy!) Keep your head high and smile, no one will know you have butterflies!

I was a little nervous my 1st couple times. I've been dancing 3 years now and I love the stage. Customers and other dancers mention how good I am on stage and on the pole. I spent alot of time practicing. I have certain outfits that go to certain music, my mood, the customers and so on. If the customers are being d*cks, I put on my cop outfit. Find your style and have fun with it!
Best advice I have is, if ya have time to do it, go to the club before it opens and practice on stage. Just play around tell ya find a move that works. Who cares if ya look stupid. It took me tons of screw ups to get it down right. Ask a vet dancer if she can show ya some basic moves and you can make up variations from there. Good Luck!!
P.S. If ya have several stages at where ya work, practice on the closed stages. Customers usually help encourage ya and tip for ya tryin.

Jaz, glad to be of help. Try it out at home first. People might be like "What the hell is she doing?", as we "method actors" often get raised eyebrows for what we do, but screw them. If it works, use it, if not, lose it. You might find a modification of what I told you works better. And what NIkki said, is absolutely valid. Go to the stage and get familiar with it, reherse a little. KNowing the space you are working in, helps. Also check out the audience area. Check out the different vantage points, and what the stage looks like from there, and what you need to do to 'play' to those specific areas. I dont mean to get all 'Zen' on you, but be one with your space, and fill it!! I have confidence in you, so YOU have confidence in you!! Always remember, you have the power, not the audience. And DO NOT resort to drinking, or doing coke or ANYTHING else to loosen yourself up for the stage. You will be on a road with no turns after that, because then your brain will eventually tell you that you cant perform without those crutches. Trust me. I know. Let me know how it works, I am curious to hear a success story!!
