    Default I got my Retin-A for $8!

Took a little jaunt down to TJ this afternoon. I got my retin-A for $8 (they sell the generic retin-a for $4.) Also, got my 4% hydroquinone cream for $8.

Without insurance, retin-a costs about $100 in the states. I've seen it online for as low as $30. But $8? yippee! Now there is no excuse for me to go without my Retin-A. (which I believe to be the proverbial fountain of youth in a tube.)

You bet my Retin A is not covered by my insurance. And i pay $85. Now i am on Retin A Micro, cheaper, not as good (for pimples really) but still helps my skin.

I can order from Guam for about $30, very small tube however, and smells like crap. Good for you!

PS i am 41 years old, not in my 30's thought i would say wtf...who cares, and not 1 wrinkle!!!! So far...Lol

Ok...Pamela and Sapphire...I called my doc today to see if he could write a prescription for Retin-A..the secretary had not even heard of it..not surprising considering where i am..Saph knows what I mean...anyways..I somehow got myself an appointment with my doctor tomorrow morning. I didn't know that regular physicians could write that type of script..I don't have a dermatologist..i don't know anyone who does..but I am excited...He did want to see me because I was so "young" ...lol..Is there anything I should ask or whatever advice you guys have would be great..

It's really a fluke that I got in..I have been on a pharmacy site in Canada..But needed a script to order it..I would fax my script to them and then they have a canadian doctor rewrite it and then they fill it..i pay with credit card..and the difference in price..is insane..Retin-A (several kinds) gel, micro ect..$20 to $29..wtf...There is a bus that go's to Canada every month from Maine to get scripts in Canada..because of the low drug prices..WOW..now I know why...

What is the strength you guys use? I don't think this will be micro. What is the generic..because they have that too..for like $16.

This winter has been really hard on my skin ...more so than ever it seems..no matter what i do..I also noticed a small beige like blotchy spot appear near my eye ..I've noticed fine lines ALL OF A SUDDEN appear that weren't there this summer..and I have been using spf on my face and always moisturize and always have with oil of olay..but my skin is a mess. I did tan as a teen and I think it is catching up with me a little..This would really be great if it works out..I'm such a skin flint ...I would hate to spend $135 on it in the US. Arggh..I love a deal..he he.

Are their any questions I should ask him? Or any personal info on how and when you use it..or whatever works best..from experience...I don't know..I'm gonna go search the forums..I think there was another thread on this that might answer some of my questions.

    Thanks girls
    Holiday

well first of all, Retin-A is specifically made for acne. If you have flawless skin, it might be hard to get a doc to write a script. It just so happens that one of the side effects is that it erases fine lines. They do make another formula of tretinoin (which is what retin-a is) for wrinkles it is called Renova.

As for strengths, I picked up the 0.05% although if I start to experience too much redness and peeling I'll go back to TJ to get the 0.025%. They do make a 0.1% but I wouldn't recommend that unless your dermatologist specifically recommended it. I don't like the gel. It just seemed too drying for my skin. I much prefer the cream. Perhaps if somebody had super duper oily skin they might like the gel. I know nothing about the micro, it's fairly new and I've never used it I've heard it is supposed to be more gentle on your skin.

Retin-a takes 6-8 weeks before you start seeing any improvement in acne. And unfortunately, your skin will get worse before it gets better. But if you stick with it, the results are worth it. In order to acclimate my skin to it I use it every 3 nights for the first 2 weeks. Then every other night for 2 weeks. Then every night. These were the instructions my dermatologist originally gave me. (I haven't used retin-a in over a year and a half)

You wash your face with a gentle cleanser and then wait 20 minutes before you apply the retin-a. I would avoid using any kind of scrubby cleansers or even astringents untill your skin gets used to the medication. My skin didn't get red but it did take on a pinkish tone. All of this stuff subsides after you've been using it for awhile.

Yes, you must avoid sun exposure and absolutely NO WAXING while using retin-a. If you wax while using it, your skin will rip right off. Trust me, I know. Even though you don't apply it to your eyebrow/upper eyelid area, it does affect your whole face.

Also, I read an article years back about another side effect of Retin-a is that it faded stretch marks. I showed my dermatologist the article and he looked intrigued and told me to try it if I wanted to but I never did because mine are barely noticeable anyhow.

Isn't the cost of medications in the US disgusting?

Holiday, the beige spot you mentioned sounds more like sun damage which retin-a won't fix. That's why I picked up the 4% hydroquinone cream. But I've never used hydroquinone before and am a little leery and not sure how to use it. I'm gonna ask my doc first on that one. (hydroquinone is a fading cream, supposedly fades sun spots, age spots, red acne scars too i think)

Also, the harsh winter conditions combined with excessive indoor heat might not be a good to time to start therapy. You might want to wait till spring.

Saph says it all. I am now on Micro 0.1%. Strong, so i use it every other day, also this tube will last me about 8 months. I use a pea size.

I have Renova which is too greasy for my face

Here is what i use, my skin loves it. Hope you can see it ok. :o

yes that is a good price but I got my 40g tube for $8. Oh I am positively gleeful.

Pam uses a bit smaller amount than I, I use bout a 1/2 inch, dot all over my face and blend in.

Holiday, generic is, well, generic. I don't typically have any problem using generic drugs but I was faced with a $4 vs. $8 decision and I decided to go for the gold.

Thanks Sapphire and Pamela..I got my script..yaay..it's the .025 strength...I went to the docs without any foundation on so he could see that beige spot and my 3 zits..(I never get zits damn it)...lol...so bam got it..he he he. Thanks for the info..Thats just what I was looking for. I think I will look into that hydroquinine cream too. And I definately don't want generic this time anyways ..I think it said $16 vs. $23 for that..pfft. But as far as it IS winter here and yes the dry heat here is a big problem. I don't know how my skin will react to the Retin-A if I use it. We shall see. I still have to go order the stuff though...I will check out www.healthworldpharmacy.com..sounds interesting..although my doc said that I can get my script in canada because they are registered over there. Not sure about Thailand though.

Thanks girls for all the super useful info.

wow, that is good to know. Honestly, I wonder if my Mexican Retin-A is the same as American Retin-A.

Did you get the cream, Holiday? or the gel? Pam likes the gel but I found it too harsh for my face. But then again, she applies it only every other day. If I were you I wouldn't start out applying it every night. Do it every other night or every 3 nights to start.

a side note anyone know of a vet pharmacy like this by chance.... my cat has cronic eye problems and a vet trips get expensisve and I know the meds she needs and it would be great to just stock up on her meds rather than to take her in everytime it gets aggrvated.

Healthworldpharmacy.com sells 20g tubes of Retin-A .05% for $12 a tube. They're great! I get my birth control pills through them and their prices for just about everything are very low. Usually takes only about 10 days to get to my door (they ship from Thailand).
I also want to say thank you for posting that link. Everywhere I've seen Retin-A it's been $100 or more! I'm going to go on that website and order some today. I'm only 25 so no wrinkles yet, but it's never too early to start taking care of your skin.

Okay...I just went on that website and tried to order the Retin-A and my credit card was declined. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not even close to being over my credit limit, so does anyone know why this happened?

You know what works REALLY good for scars, acne, blemishes, wrinkles, dark sprts, dry skin and most other skin problems? Raw, organic coconut oil. I use it everyday on my skin because I am in the sun a lot. It cost about 15 dollars for 16 oz. jar for the good stuff. The ones in the health food stores are junk. If you are interested do an internet search for "raw organic coconut oil" Coconut oil rebuilds collagen, and is anti-parisitic, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, contains all essential amino acids, contains phytochemicals, antioxidants, enzymes, micro and macro nutrients, and has alpha lipoic acid. Due to coconut's anti-bacterial and anti-parasitic properties it is probably the only oil that will actually prevent acne. Raw coconut oil also contains 88 minerals. I don't know if retin-a can make such claims, but I would bet my life that they can't. I guess nature doesn't have the money to fund massive research to proove it's product is superior though, so we will really never know. I have a little mantra that I won't put anything ON my body that I won't put IN my body, since our skin absorbs anthing that is applied on it. If I won't eat it, I won't put it on my skin.

I called my credit card company and they said that everything was fine. I entered my home address, which is where I get my credit card statements. I double-checked to make sure I entered my credit card number correctly, so I don't know what could be wrong. I tried again today and I was still declined. I will try again in a few days, and if it doesn't work, I'll just purchase it somewhere else.

Why is the health food store version junk? Anyhow, I could be interested, I love jojoba oil and since summer is coming soon (today is hotter than hell down by the beach haha!) I might give it a shot. But wanted to say I knew a girl who was so allergic she couldn't use anything with coconut product in it. She had to carefully read all labels.
