Default The Puritans have found me!

I'm running with my head cut off yesterday trying to get ready for the test shoot for my talk show and I get a phone call. I answer it with...

    "Hello."

    "Is this Scott Jensen?"

Said in that way that bill collectors talk. Oh well. I don't lie so...

    "Yes."

"Is this the Scott Jensen of The Scott Jensen Show?"

Ah! Must be one of the businesses I've emailed about doing a barter deal or a possible guest for the show that I've sent an inquiry to before bringing onboard my guest booker. I switch from cautious to happy tone.

    "Yes it is."

"So you're the one that has been posting to the stripper forums?"

Now that struck me odd. Especially as it was a guy calling. I switch from happy to a bit confused.

    "Yes."

"I think you should haven't have strippers on your show."

WTF???? The show hasn't even done its test shoot yet ... to say nothing about filming its first episode, the soonest episode being planned for strippers is the sixth, and I'm getting a call like this????? I switch from confused to cold.

    "Why?"

"Are you going to portray them in a positive light?"

"I'm going to show them respect and treat them like any other professional. I don't call that positive or negative light. Is that a problem?"

"Yes. Portraying strippers in a positive light is bad for society."

    "Why?"

Silence. I guess no one ever asked him that before.

    "Do you have children?"

"What business is that of yours?"

"I do and I don't want my daughters to think that taking off one's clothes is a real career choice. Strippers are nothing but prostitutes. Even if they don't take money for sexual intercourse, they still sell sex and..."

"Excuse me. I really don't have time for this. I get your point. We disagree. Good-bye."

I then went back to running around with my head cut off to get ready for the test shoot. I was expecting him to call back right away, but he didn't. I was expecting to have a message on my voicemail when I got back from the test shoot, but there wasn't. Nor has he called today.

If the person that called reads this, please do not call me again.

And that's the odd thing. If he hates strippers so much as to try to get a talk show not to "portray" them in a positive light, why is he even reading this forum? Or have I just hopped onto this forum during a lull of posts that attack strippers?

It seems that the media is having a romantic affair with strippers lately because of all the movies and talk shows, music icons like Britney, etc. So many young women are coming out of high school with high hopes of being a stripper.

They think its all stage shows, ogling, and a glamourous life. Its not. The job is difficult and mentally stressful, as well as physically draining. THEN, there are your puritans who you describe above. Its a dichotomy and NEITHER side is accurate in what they think.......

Not sure about your caller.....the internet has a place for all voyeurs. I've read the message boards of an anti-semite/white supremisist site before to gather information and views so enraging and different can still suck you in....

Maybe you should make your # unlisted, because any controvercial subject will most likely bring calls like these.

    Well said, Katrine >^..^< meowww!

Anyway, I think it's pretty pathetic that you were called by someone who is so dead-set against us, yet, the person obviously lurks around this site.

Stripping is definitely not as glamourous as movies and TV portray it as. It has its highs and lows, as with any job. I've had many jobs, aside from dancing, and I've seen worse people in those jobs than in any club I've danced at.

Pumpkin, just keep doing what you're doing. You'll always have critics and people who think that they're "above" the topics on your shows. I think it's a great thing that you have made the industry one of your topics. Perhaps it will educate everyone a bit more than they think they already are.

Well, first, I'm only one of like six guys named Scott Jensen in Madison. On top of that, the current leader of my state (Wisconsin) legislature is Scott Jensen. *laugh*

As for getting my number unlisted, I don't think I will ... yet. Maybe eventually if it becomes a real problem, but not until then. I don't want to change my life out of fear of what others might do. Maybe that's foolish and I'll learn my lesson the hard way. However, until then, I'd like to live the way I've always lived. Besides, it's not as if I'm in LA, Chicago, or New York. Madison is a small Midwestern city. Slightly a pain for getting guests, but otherwise a great place to live.

Yeah, that's the odd thing about it all. I can see someone not approving of strippers, but to read their forums??? That's just odd.

And that's the point of having the first episode featuring strippers to have them be veteran strippers. I'm really hoping to get ones on that give a balanced view of the industry. I'd hate it to be all pie-in-the-sky or a bitchfest. I'd like it to be informative. Frank and open. However, that all depends on who I get on that episode. All I can do is hope for the best.

That's the idea. I want to do that with lots of professions. The only thing different about strippers is that I plan to have more than one episode featuring them ... unlike accountants. For some odd reason I think that my audience would like to see more strippers than accountants. Yes, yes, call me foolish.

In fact, if they prove to be great episodes, I plan to make strippers a regular staple of the show as I hopefully will with stand-up comics and "What if...?" alternative history scenarios. Later ones being more light and fun in tone. But we'll see how they do. Time will tell.

Apparently it's some ass customer reader/member who, I'd bet my eyeteeth, harrasses strippers for extras, doesn't respect boundaries, and molests every girl he gets a dance from. Of course a shithead like that wouldn't want his daughters stripping, because he has a guilty conscience! IMO, the biggest proponents of censorship and 'moral judgement' are those with the most to hide.

Just do your show. Thank god it's going to be an internet-based show so the hypocritical asses can't stop it. :fucker:

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if they try. However, if they succeed, I'll simply move the show to a country that doesn't have such censorship and continue there. Hopefully, I won't be forced to make such a move, but my production crew and staff are prepared for it if it happens.

    Hey Pumpkin -

Next time the Puritans call you, ask them why they wore funny hats, espoused a virulently draconian form of Calvinistic Anglicanism, and brutally oppressed the Narraganset Indians during their colonization. That should throw then off the track for a while.

    Hi John,

I was using the word "Puritans" as more of a figure of speech. Just as I would use the word "Quakers" to mean someone that doesn't keep up with the times. I would be very surprised if the caller was a true Puritan. Not that he would reject their philosophy, but just the odds that he would consider himself one.

The purpose of the show is to stir up conversation, right? Or is it propagandist?

Next time he calls up, ask him if he is part of an organization. If so, have their spokesperson on too.

Like Pan Dah said, these people are hard to have a legitimate conversation with because they like to pull out all kinds of reports made by people like themselves to prove what they believed all along.

So you will need to go Bill O'Reilly on their ass now and then to shut them up.

Do your research to learn their arguments, so you can prepare opposing arguments. Heck, might make a good episode number two.

I think you missed an opportunity.

It's a panel discussion show that has each episode cover a specific topic. That topic could be a certain profession (accountants, butlers, or strippers), "What if...?" alternative history scenario, or a wide range of things. What it isn't is a Jerry Springer style show that revolves around conflict. Nor is it a soapbox for me to preach from. It is meant to be both entertaining and informative. It is to explore topics with the people who are doing them. Frank and open discussion. Nothing sugar-coated. And due to being a p2p show, no word even bleeped.

As I was advised by another talk show host: "Nothing hurts a talk show more than a half-interested host." Due to this, I'm only having on guest types and topics that interest me. Religious prudes who advocate censorship do not interest me. I'm a hardcore libertarian and non-believer.

I don't need the stomach ulcers nor is that the type of show I want to produce.

As with anything, there's always choices to make. Fortunately, I have a very long list of guest and topic types I want to have on the show. At present count, they number over 250 and many of those are of the "can-never-have-enough" kind. I will never run out of them and will only add more as my interest develop and change.

All I'm hoping is that there's enough people in the world that share my interests and would appreciate my style of interview. Time will tell.
