    Default needing ski clothes

i am going on my first ski trip in march, and i have nothing! does anyone know of a good ski website to get clothes from? i am kindof looking for something that is a bit different...maybe in color or style. i am going with 3 other couples, and all the other girls are really conservative. i would like to look a bit more like an individual out there (and at the lodge)...instead of just blending in with the other girls.

also, aren't there fitted ski pants somewhere? i am really short and all the ski pants i am finding are too long for me, and too bulky since i am not very big.

    thanks for the help!

I bought some ski pants earlier this year from a sporting goods store. I think they look a lot better than those ski bibs, that are sort of like overalls. I've never bought any ski stuff online so I don't know about that. But, I do know that the local stores start having their end of season sales the first part of February. While the prices are good, the selection is only so-so. So if you want a good selection, you should get shopping now.

You mentioned you were going in March. Dress in layers. Skiing is exercise, and for a beginner, it can be hard work. When the sun comes out you can get quite warm. Don't be surprised to see people skiing in jeans and t-shirts. What I would plan on doing is skiing in ski pants, a turtle neck, and my ski coat. You need the coat for standing in line and on the lifts, when you are not moving around, you can get chilled. You'll also want gloves, either a hat or something to at least keep your ears warm, and either goggles or sunglasses. Take sunscreen too. Believe it or not, at those high elevations, you can get sunburn, even in winter.

    Have fun!

Edit - Oops! I just checked your profile and saw that you were on the east coast. I was talking about skiing in the rockies. Obviously, the stuff about high elevations and how warm it gets in the spring may not apply if you're going to the northeast.

Ya know.......been skiing a bit (live in Colorado) and seem like every time I go...some guy from Texas is skiiing butt ass naked down the slopes, toating a texas state flag! So watch out for those Texans Emily!

You might actually be able to pick up some deals at the slopes when you go also. When we go is usually around late March, early April....and we have been able to find some great deals!

    And like said above....Gortex......gooooooood stuff
I've heard that a good signiture sets you apart from everyone.
    Well......is this good enough???

It sounds like you just want to sport the "look" and are not keen on challanging the mountian.

I am an avid snowboarder, but my husband is a strong intermediate skier.

Columbia makes some cute, colorful yet warm, strong jackets and pants. Actually, those down, quilted jackets are hip again. You can get them in a bunch of colours and there are styles that are more fitted and less puffy.

Since I shop for boarding clothes; my favorite pants are made by Roxy, Cold as Ice and Betty Rides. They are low cut and you can wear trendy belts with them. At the same time they are functional.

Northface is also a popular ski fashion brand.

Good luck on shopping! You'll look hot!!

    Cheers,

corey, i do want a cute look, but i still will learn how to ski....i have just never had the desire to learn how. i went to college 10 minutes from the slopes...and never went. i would rather drive 4 hours to the beach. this should be interesting...

and those texans sound like a trip!

Sounds like you are willing to pay big bucks. Reliable ski clothes that aren't as expensive can be obtained from a camping catalog retailer called Cabelas.
You'll be warm, but perhaps not stand out. If youa re in a hurry, Galyans sporting goods would be a good bet. Think they have a store in Atlanta. Might have one in Sourth Carolina.

ATF is from the south and thinks ski ing is a big deal. I grew up with the non glamourous part of skiing in northern Wisconsin. Mostly hillls, but a good place to learn. Big deal in high school was guying drinking beer and skiing. They then crash into trees and ruin their knees. Alot of guys with pins in their legs
I recall. Basically I hate skiing, even the trendy glamourous Vail Rocky mountain skiing. After growing up all my life and fighting winter, I'll take Florida or Hawaii any day. I remain unimpressed by all the glamour people and their clothes
at Vail at the ski lodges. Big deal. And at one time i was pretty good, not outstanding at skiing, and no, I wasn't one of those who crashed into trees
    by being drunk.

I'll trade you weather right now for South Carolina. (I won't trade you in July or August.) Right now in western Illinois it is 18 with no wind... but for some reason bone chilling cold. Why bone chilling, because we are due for three inches of snow
tonight. This is enough to annoy me. It means I have to break out the heavy equipment and fuel it, but I could ignore it. If I ignore it we will get a bigger snow and I will have an ice problem you won't believe because I didn't attend to the
little snow. Last winter Tennessee ahd a few storms, but count yourselves lucky down there.

To be clear the winters are alot warmer here than twenty years ago. And they are about month shorter. But why choose to go out in cold miserable weather and
fall down with two sticks strapped to your feet?

Good luck. Drink the spiked hot chocolate at night to wam you up.
