Default Did I make a big mistake???

    Hey Guys,
As some of you know if you've read my profile from awhile back, I'm studying at a university in DC to become an ESL teacher. I am determined that nothing will come in the way of my dream, I'm even beginning to volunteer at a bilingual elementary school, HOWEVER...
I was reading over the contract that I need to sign to volunteer, and under penalty of perjury, one of the clauses reads: "[am not the subject of] a crime of moral turpitude (it., one characterized by behavior or acts that violate moral sentiments or accepted morals standards of the community and are of a morally culpable quality).
ACK! Not only have I been dancing in this city for 2+ yrs, but I've done some nude modeling for some amateur photographers in this city, and participated in one amatuer girl-girl "adult film" (only because I needed the money for rent).
I'm trying to keep my head on straight, telling myself that adult films are made all the time in massive quanitites, and that a rinky-dink film like the one I was in will "never" surface... I'm freaking out now. I worry if I'll never be able to get a job in DC ever because of what I've done... Or am I being paranoid? Any advice? Is anyone out there a teacher or know someone with similar circumstances? Please please please let me know!

I wouldn't worry if I were you. I think the key word in that sentence is "CRIME"...meaning, did you sexually abuse any kids, did you rape anyone, etc. They don't want sexual predators working as teachers. As long as you have a clean criminal record, and everything you did was in good legal standing, then it probably doesn't include you. Best thing to do is find a lawyer and ask (check your club--if a lawyer stops in, ask him about it).

I agree with SC..You will worry yourself sick. Consult with an attorney and go from there.
    Good luck,

I wouldn't worry...you are working in a business that a lot of people in your area feel is morally acceptable (otherwise you would not be able to be in that business). I think that statement is geared more towards people who abuse others...but, I agree with the others...just to be sure, ask a lawyer.

I'd say deline the position. Even if what you did is not considered a crime, people won't take nicely to the fact that you've performed at what most will not consider a "wholesome" activity to teach with their children.

SCGirl is correct. The key word is "crime". Don't worry about it. You're doing nothing wrong. Good luck with being an ESL teacher!

i agree with SC...you aren't doing anything to abuse anyone.

i know this is different, but i know several women that are teachers that also are escorts during the summer.

it doesn't hinder your ability to be a great teacher, so i wouldnt stress over it. you will end up going crazy trying to abide by that rule...if you take it too far. i mean, hell...some people think drinking is immoral.

You weren't the "subject of".. just a stunt double/extra

one characterized by behavior or acts that violate moral sentiments or accepted morals standards of the community
Is there an adult bookstore or place that sells adult videos in your community? 'nuff said.

Being of a more liberal stature, I'd say that part of the application is discriminatory and unprogressive. The viewpoint of the subject interpretting the rather poorly worded jargon could totally sway either way, so I just wouldn't sweat it.

It's a shame the most advanced, progressive and culturally rich country in the world is still decades behind in "proper" morality when compared to other countries/europe, etc.etc.

Nudity, sex and expression are NOT crimes. Having such an outlook does not make you any more or less qualified to have an impact on children in a classroom setting.
It doesn't matter if you're somebody in this world, it rather matters you mean the whole world to somebody.

I used to be a teacher a few years ago, well before my dancing days. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. Like was mentioned by others, they are mainly looking for sexual predators. If on the small chance they did ever find out about it, just say you answered truthfully, as you understood the question.

"A suject of a crime" is more like "a defendant in a criminal proceeding" so on first thought you shouldn't have a worry BUT if these people find out you dance then they may form some sort of ruckus over that, because most people still see exotic dancing as morally objectionable.
