    Default HELP! Dry Skin

Help me! This winter, with the sub-zero temps have really taken a toll on my hands! They are unbelievably dry, so dry that they crack, split, and bleed at the knuckles. I've tried Vaseline Intensive Careâ„¢ lotion, but that doesn't help at all! Anyone else have this problem? It probably doesn't help that I'm a chronic hand-washer, due to having an infant and being scared to death of her getting sick. Any suggestions?

Also, I have really really chapped lips. I've tried every variety of chapsticks, carmex, etc. Suggestions on that too please? lol

    Thanks in advance

well no I don't have this problem but I would suggest wearing Vaseline or Crisco on your hands and sleeping with cotton gloves. Yeah, constantly washing your hands is totally drying them out maybe you can find some kind of lotion cleanser?

If Vaseline or Crisco doesn't help you might need some kind of script from the doc for eczema/poriasis?

Slather your hands with the vaseline intensive care and stick them in rubber gloves overnight. For your lips, olive oil, or vaseline intensive care also works great.

Yes, the gloves. Also, try Earth Therapeutics Gardener's Hand Repair. It seems to also work even after a few hand washes. For me, I have to keep switching hand moisturizers because they stop working after a while, but when I switch back a month or two later, they work again. Tru anything with shea or cocoa butter, as those are supposed to be the 2 most moisturizing ingredients known to man.

    hi there
im fanatical about my skin as it is always dry ...and crackly and itchy
a few things that work for me.. regular lotions dont unless i really slather them on and then take a dry washcloth and rub it in
in the shower i use a mild glycerin soap and some white sugar and those scratchy gloves and use very warm water and wash that way
my cuticles this time of year look like i bite at them they are awful.. i got this little bottle (hand lotion size at cvc) of nivea Soft it works really well.. the thing is i put a glob all over my hands first rub it in.. then take a glob on each cuticle and rub it in .. then take a glob on a rough wash cloth and individually rub the glob in .. the dead cuticle skin just rubs off
its time consuming but im doing it now actually while on the computer or while i watch tv.. just sit down with that dry washcloth and your lotion and slowly rub away
also about a tb of olive oil in bath water helps
my legs are finally soft but i still see scalyness .. how do i get rid of that without rubbing the skin raw? any ideas?

You bet Rhiannon! Skin loves humidity! Vaseline works wonders. But what the skin is really starving for is WATER. So before slathering on vaseline, wash your hande with plain warm (not hot) water, while they are still damp put the vaseline on, and slip on cotton gloves. The vaseline holds the moisture in the skin for very long peiods of time.

Lotion or vaseline alone, won't do it. The skin needs moisture (water) first.

I use vaseline on my face at night during cooler nights, applied after i wash my face and it's still damp.

Also a humidifier ca be of great help during cold weather to anyone wiht dry skin, sinuses etc.

    Good luck!

ok this is what u do: every night slather some vaseline intensive care lotion on your hands & cover them with gloves. they will be smooth as a baby's ass the next morning. this lotion is for extremely dry, chapped hands, it really works.

oops didnt read lena's post before, so i guess i agree with her ed:

see! it does work!! lena great minds think alike

I swear by Shea & Cocoa butters. You should include good oils like extra virgin olive oil, or walnut. To help prevent dry skin.
