I am an African-American woman who shaves her head. I don't have a problem with men being attracted to me, but I also like to wear wigs. Does anyone have any comments on wigs (types, colors, lengths) that could benefit me while dancing?

my vote is for long, straight, and blonde. I would think that the blonde (regardless of shade) would look very dramatic against your skin.
sounds very nice Sapphire. Or what about a long straight dark wig with highlights of blonde, or red?

Make sure it'll stay on!!

Try to go for the human hair wigs. Be sure to wash and condition them just like you would do your own hair. Buy a foam head to store your wig on and for styling. Its useful when using hot rollers and curling irons.
Be sure to buy natural looking wigs. Synthetic wigs are cool too but, I only like them for shortstyles. Like china doll cuts and short layered bobs.
Check your local beauty supply stores, also see if they have some sort of adhesive to keep your wigs in place. His and Her hair sell wigs on line too.

Hey Oktoberdwn,
Welcome to SW. Anywho...
I think it would be in your best interest to just go to your local beauty supply store and buy wigs. Most stores have a good quality selection. Since it's very rare that you find a wig that "fits" you or your personality perfectly, it's best that you take your wig to a professional hairstylist who can then cut/shape the wig to fit you, as if it were your natural hair.
I just started making my own wigs ( by stocking cap) And they work out really good. Actually I need to go finish making one now.
I hope my response and the others helped some...

Regarding Wigs: Human hair is the best way to go. The hair piece should be styled by a professional. You want the most natural and realistic shaping. Human hair will take curling irons, sets and washing. Synthetics wigs will not style well, can be easily damaged and in most cases, will not shampoo. It is worth the investment, the same as any outfit or shoes. Natural color is the best way to go, keep in mind facial contour, skin tone and stage lighting. I speak as a professional cosmotologist licensed in Michigan.
I frequently use wigs and stay as close to my natural color as possible. I am not a dancer but as a crossdresser selling lingerie for Petra Fashions I need to look my best because like a dancer, I am the center of attention and I want my ladies to pul out their money as much as you want your audience too. We both are selling ourselves and have to look our best. So choosing a wig is very important for looks especially in your business matter a lot. Also, as a customer of yours, make sure the wig looks real unless it is like a glittery bright white, pink, or any other flouresent color. I have seen danceers with bad wigs and it is a turn-off. Like the rest of the ladies said, Human hair is the best route and I think staying close to your natural color is best.
Hugs,
Melissa

Hey Cinnamon, how do you make a wig with a cap? I'm going for a red that's in the John Frieda Raidiant Red ad, but I don't want to make a commitment just yet.
