    Default yet another exercise question...

I started running last week in hopes to tone up a bit more. I am active already but was wanting something more intense for my cardio work out. I found that running is good but about 5 days after I started I went for a walk and felt a sharp pain in my knee that took awhile to go away. I could only assume it was from the running. Any tips or alternatives?

If you're already active you'll probably lose weight faster if you pick up a weight routine. As for alternatives, if your joints are sensitive to the impact you might want to try swimming (take some courses in proper form and do laps), or spinning, or even just a plain old hi/lo or step class. good luck!

Not sure, but i was told running on hard surfaces is very bad on the knees. Mine hurt after trying for 2 weeks along time ago. I will not jog, unless it's on sand. Pace walking they say is JUST as effective. A very fast walk with the arms swinging is great cardio! Maybe try that.

running and jogging are extremely hard on the joints, muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, ect.

For strength, endurance, balance, flexibility, try YOGA.

    I reccommend Hatha Yoga.

Try the non impact eliptical runner at your local gym or a stationary bicycle. If the pain doesn't reoccure then you might assume that it was the running that did it. Did you warm up sufficiently before you started? One thing, if you feel a pain in your knees while running, do not try to run it out . Walk back to where you started and put ice on it as soon as you get home.

Thanks Ryan but I have already been doing yoga for the last 10 years (started very young). Its great and its probably the only thing that has actually stayed consistent in my life!
    lol
Maybe I should warm up more or just stick with the walking... I tried the gym scene a few times but it just doesn't do it for me.
