    Default Shaving vs. waxing

I just started shaving my kitten but am getting soooo many bumps - what can I do to stop them? Should I try waxing? Ouch! :o

I get a lot less bumps when I wax...I usually wax, then shave to maintain until the next time I take time off, then let it grow and wax again. Using disposable razors, a new one every time, can help stop razor burn. Also try azulene oil or polysporin after shaving to prevent bumps. I've heard anti-perspirant works too to prevent bumps but I haven't tried it.

i have had the worst problem with this...even before dancing. i just always hated having hair down there. ever since high school cheerleading, i used to shave. then i went to waxing b/c the razor bumps are horrible and make me downright itchy. but with waxing, you get ingrowns so easily and you have to have some regrowth to wax again of course. so, i've recently had laser hair removal done. in this business, i think it is essential. although i caution all of you out there....go to a cosmetic/plastic surgeon who knows what they are doing!! i was burned the first time by a doctor using a laser made more for veins. i actually have scars now, although they are fading and not as noticable, but i am suing them. i now go to a great doctor now who uses the right equipment and is very careful in preventing any adverse effects.

bottom line... laser is the best way to go... it'll run you around $300 or so per treatment, but totally worth it!

Just wanted to chime in to say that laser hair removal isn't permanent however after you finish enough treatments... the hair takes a few years to grow back.

I'm a waxer from way back and only 'shave' when I either don't have the $$ for waxing or so I can time all my hair growth (so it is case of legs, bikini, underarms all at the same time instead at separate times).

After 12 years of waxing... I'm finally seeing results LOL! I can even pluck the hair out with my fingers because the root is so weak due to all the waxing (that's a good thing.. makes it easier to remove).

I shave, I have never waxed, and I don't get problems with those bumps. A few girls I know have had them, and I advised them to shave with the hair instead of against it, and use a good shaving foam.
Also when I switched my brand of shavers once I got bumps so I switched back and its fine now.

I have been shaving my kitty since I was in grade 9. Never had a problem with bumps or ingrown hairs, unless the balde was dull. I think there is a bump lotion that you can get, but the name is escaping me right now.

How many laser treatments does it take to make the hair go away? How much does it hurt? It's not permanent? Damnit...I've wanted laser hair removal forever, but if it's not permanent...*sigh*

If you ladies that shave have never tried the Intuition razor....please do so. It is the same price as the Venus and 10 times better. It also cuts your shaving time 3 fold. I can now shave EVERYTHING in about 5 minutes. No joke. I never ever ever get razor burn....... If you havent tried it, do it ...its only 7 bucks and sooooo much better than any other. FYI though, a friend of mine was allergic to the soap that is on the blades, but she is the only person I know who didnt like it.

OK, I'm new at this hair removal thing. Never gave it a second thought until my boyfriend of 2 years asked me to shave it. There is hair in crevices I didn't realize existed!! What a hassle. Is it just me, a hairy Italian woman or is this common? We enjoy going to the clubs frequently and I think the clean look is so erotic, I would really like to keep it all the time, but it grows back soooo fast and the itch! UGH. I guess it's an everyday thing???

I just posted something about this on another board, but I can't remember where so I'll say it again

I use the Venus and really want to try the Intuition, especially after reading such a great review about it! Maybe when I run out of refills I'll make the switch.

I've never waxed....how exactly does it work? I just can't picture what getting it done is like. Where do you go? Who does it? ???

Personally I have found that the best razor out there is the Mach 3 (yeah, it's for men, but I'm telling you it is one smooth shave ). Unfortunately I can't use it because I seem to be allergic to something in the lube strip. I've never known anyone else whose had that problem though...then again I should mention that I don't have particularly sensitive skin and can't think of any other thing I have a reaction from.

If you choose to shave, applying stick deodorant to the entire area immediately after drying helps sooth and prevent razor burn. It's the most effective thing I've tried and I pretty much stick with it.

Wax if you have the time and money.

If shave, use Intuition razor, soak in a hot bath with Epsom salt, use Tend Skin on the area immediately afterwards (it will hurt like hell!), then put some baby powder on top of the bikini area to soothe it, and also to minimze redness when you go to work.....this gives me about 3 days worth of smoothness, only need a small touchoup on final day...

Waxing is the way to go. It's just the waiting for it to get long enough again to do it over. The lady i go to will even pluck you if you need to be hairless ASAP!! lol ouch! Everytime i've gotten a brazillian they've always turned me over and basicly waxed my butt crack and that "inbetween" area. I never even thought of that area until i got a brazillian. Do any of you ladies attempt to shave these areas? Seems difficult...

I do and it takes getting into a really strange position and being really careful! No doubt the wax works better. It's really hard to get everything cause you simply can't see some of the areas your shaving (which is also a little scary!)

I wax (as stated before) however not "kojak" (everything gone). Brazilian, these days, means everything off except for a very light strip or patch of hair.

I use hair removal cream for my arse area as I find that more effective and I just don't want to put a razor near there. I just "sit on the loo" (without actually using the toilet) and read something for the 5-8 minutes I need my butt cheeks parted then wash off with luck warm water.
