Go to the links section here at SW, then pick link directory, there's a pole purchasing link called mypole, from there it should tell you any questions that you have about installation.
As for the mirror, I honestly think it is a must have.
    Good Luck.

Go to Home Depot. You will need a 2" thick diameter pole, usually polished chrome, aluminum, or brass. Measure your place from floor to ceiling. Make sure you know how to install it or have someone who does this stuff install it. You will need to get 2 ceiling joists (one for ceiling and one for floor). Make sure that the ceiling joist is secured into a stud...otherwise you could become airborn in a way that you just don't find fun!! This might cost you a total of $100 (probably a little less, though). If you do not want to screw the pole into the floor, then you can always buy some plywood, cover it with cheap carpet or tile and install it that way. Of course, make sure that you take the new measurements (to accomodate the plywood/tile/carpet) before getting your pole.

You could also order a Lil' Mynx pole or some "pre-made" pole...for about 3-4 x's as much (they usually cost about $300-$400 with shipping). But, if you think about it, they are pretty much going to Home Depot and getting the exact same stuff...and just charging much more for it.

It really depends on what you want. I installed a pole (permanent) which I cannot take up and down at whim. There are poles that you can do that with. I know that they sell joists for that...I've just not gotten around to finding them.

Again, no matter which route you take, make sure that you install the pole into a ceiling stud.

I have a pole. Easy to install, just make sure you get the right flanges... mine is 16 feet, I have vaulted ceilings, so if you do have a vaulted ceiling, you will need to have a flange custom made.. Email me if you have questions...

My husband and I bought and installed a pole up in our apartment. You can see it in my pictures in the gallery. I bought the actual pole from platinumstages.com and they were great. Probably cost about $130 (knowing what I know now though, next time I'd buy the pole material at the hardware store). Installing it ended up being a bit of an ordeal due to all kinds of complications (pole was too short, my floor is made of concrete, couldn't locate the ceiling studs for various reasons, etc). It is up now and working beautifully though. So if anyone does run in to any trouble or needs extra advice, feel free to email me as well.

If the only reason you want a pole is to practise before you start working at a club, forget about it. Installing a pole is often a pretty permanent step and you need a great deal of room around it to swing. It has to be strong because so much of pole work is all about Leverage.
Don't even worry about the pole when you first start working at a club. Just balance yourself on it and shake your ass a little and dance around the rest of the time. Before you get a job I would suggest working on your upper body strength and abdominal strength and just getting used to the way the shoes feel. Once you start working the other girls will show you the tricks and you can bond while you do it.
If you are strong and have some time to practise on slow days there is really no point in spending time and money on installation in your home

    Gynger and Laya,
I''ll be sure to email/PM if I have any problems. I plan on putting the pole in my garage and the floors are concrete and the ceiling is vaulted. I'm going to Houston this weekend, so I'll probably get started on it next week. I love SW !

Does anyone have any suggestions on installing a removable pole? I live in an apartment and they would freak out if when I moved there were big holes in the ceiling and new carpet. I really want to practice. I have been dancing a little over a year and I love pole work and I'd love to be better at it.

I live in an apartment and a permanent pole is not an option for me (especially when my mom comes to visit!). I ordered a removable pole from Lil Mynx, installed it myself in about an hour, and I love it! Yes, it was expensive (about $300), but hey, it's cheaper than a gym membership! It is the most fun workout I've ever done, and since I've started doing pole work on a regular basis, my upper body looks better than it ever has, and no more boring dumbbell flyes and lat pulldowns! I highly reccommend it, I'm totally addicted! I don't know how hard it would be to go to Home Depot and install a REMOVABLE pole DIY....
