Default Sound off on this menu

I'm getting married on May 1st and I'm up to my eyeballs in wedding plans. Yeesh. No wonder people hire coordinators. Anyways, tell me what you think of this potential menu for the reception, which is to be done in a country-Italian (Tuscan) style and during the cocktail hour (appetizers and bar only). Any suggestions are also VERY appreciated, but keep in mind that I want foods that are easy to eat and that can be served either right out of a fridge or room temperature (saves on caterer cost).

    Menu

Antipasti (marinated veggies, crudites, a cucumber-tomato-and-feta salad, sliced baguettes with meats and cheeses, cold rotini-and-veggie salad)

    Prosciutto with Melon

Miniature Napoli Marguerite-style pizzas (pizza dough rounds topped with tomato, basil, mozzerella and olive oil).

Phyllo (a delicate, thin pastry dough) filled with spinach and feta/ mozzerella, tomato and sausage/prosciutto and peach chutney/prosciutto, chicken and swiss cheese (maybe brie? I'm still debating) and then baked.

For dessert, there is the obligatory wedding cake plus:

Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Hearts (when sliced in half lengthwise, strawberries form a heart shape... I thought this was clever)

Pumpkin Tartlets drizzled with White Chocolate and a walnut half.

I still have to get with my bartender and figure out exactly what I want, but I'll be limiting bar costs by only serving two or three selections. Sangria for sure (no, it isn't Italian, but I love it), some sort of Mimosa or champagne cocktail and... something else. Dunno.

Ideas, comments, suggestions? Is this too much, not enough of a selection, does it sound tasty to most people?

I think you covered all the bases there...you have low-calorie, low-carb, vegetarian, and lots of variety for those who don't have dietary restrictions.

Another champagne cocktail that I really like is champagne with some chambord (raspberry liqueur) in it, so maybe that could be abother drink? Maybe something non-alcoholic but seems like liquor...like sparkline grape juice.

And congratulations. You're getting married on my birthday too

You're right, it didn't even occur to me that I have no non-alcoholic selections. Hrm. Bottled water and a fruit punch? I saw an article that had indvidual fruit pieces (orange segments, peach slices, cherries, etc) frozen into individual large-ish ice cubes (ex: put two cherries in a coffee mug and just barely cover with water and freeze) and then floated in the fruit punch for an interesting, decorative way to keep it chilled. Some Sprite would make it fizzy.

I really like that champagne cocktail idea. Is it overly sweet?

    Thanks!

No, it's not overly sweet, just kind of sweet, like a wine cooler. But you can add less or more depending on how you like it. Plus it's kind of pink, so it is romantic too!

I like your frozen fruit idea. I remember in college there was this punch made with Sprite and sorbet that was pretty good, but that's kind of 10-year-old birthday party.

Lillith, an excellent menu with a variety of choices! It sounds absolutely yummy, and like Emily said, all the bases are covered!

We had peach and strawberry slices (frozen) in our punch at my wedding. It went over very well with guests. I received a lot of compliments, but I didn't have anything to do with making it.

    Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials!

Oh gods, I've been wracking my little head for a third dessert option and this one is so obvious. Vanilla ice cream with balsamic vinegar, add that to the list.

Hey, congrats Lilith! I have to agree it sounds good to me. Plenty of variety and it seems like enough to satisfy those who may not have eaten prior and are starving, and simple enough to be carried around while mingling. I'm not good with drinks so don't have any suggestions there. I saw a snippet about the frozen fruit ice cubes on a show recently - looked great! I'm thinking it's the latest fruit punch trend

as for alcohol: what about asti? not terribly expensive ($6-$25 a bottle depending on where you are, the quality, and the size), its italian, its sparlking, and its good (my favorite). I also tried a very good red spumante the other day and I useually don't like red wines. Cant remember the name but it was on sale for $5 (normally closer to $8 I think)

My friends grandmother used to use a bunt cake pan and fill it with water and fruit pieces to make one large wreath shaped fruit ice cube. I used to love this so much in her punches. It was big enough to keep the whole bowl very cold and look very elegant and festive as well.
    Congradulations on your big day.
    I love the menu.

Are you serious? I've never heard of that particular combination, LOL.

The rest of the plan sounds fantastic though. What a great menu!
