Default How much do you get tipped?

I almost always tip $5 for a $20 dance.

When I was talking to my ATF a while ago, she mentioned that that's exceptionally high -- most guys tip a dollar or two at most, and many don't tip for lapdances at all.

This surprised me. I figure I should be generous. I mean, I tip my restaurant servers 20%, and they're not rubbing my face between their breasts. (Which is good. Context is everything.)

So, am I unusually generous? What do you ladies usually make, tip-wise?

(I'm not going to change my practice, so feel free to tell me I'm crazy.)

I work in upstate NY and it's $30 for 1 topless song (high contact) lap dance and $40 nude. Most girls are outraged by anything less than $20, considering these are usually bump and grind dances. That might explain why business is so bad lately.

There was a thread on this recently and most of us agreed that $5 was the perfect tip, per dance.

I suppose where I am might put things into more perspective:

I'm in Seattle and go to a downtown club. Lapdances are clothed.

Giles, the dancers work for tips. The price of a lapdance is technically a "tip." Why would you want to tip on a tip unless she gave extraordinary service. That's retarded! Show your appreciation by buying more dances. If you spend 5 small, would you rather tip 20% extra or get 5 more dances? You choose.

Most of my customers who tip tip five dollars. About half of them don't tip at all.

After a champagne room the bouncer usually prompts the customer to tip me and I get the same thing, about half tip 40-100 and the other half look suprised and hand me a few dollars.

Sorry. The price of the lapdance is not a tip; it is mandatory. Try not paying it and see what the dancers/bouncers/management have to say about it.

As it happens, I almost always tip for lapdances. I feel it is the best way of showing some gratitude. I know I could buy more dances for the same amount of money if I didn't tip, but I'd usually rather express some gratitude.

Where I work, we only get $5 out of the 1st $20, so a for a $30 dance, we get $15 and a nude $40 dance gets us $25. Considering that the dances, as previously mentioned, are heavy grinding lap dances, $5 is an insult, $10 is a lot better, but any tip is appreciated in my book and I always end the dance with a smile-tip or no tip. I'd rather have the guy come back and buy a dance with me again as opposed to not coming back at all because I complained to him about a tip----like many of the girls do where I work.

FBR: In Seattle, nudity is allowed only on stage. And I'm not driving to Vancouver BC or Portland for a nude dance.

And what LapOfLuxury said about tips. If I have to pay it for the service, it's not a tip -- so that $20 isn't a tip.

That's a great attitude that will get you more dances anytime. No matter how big or small the tip, a good attitude will bring the customer back, and usually get a good tip next time around. I usually tip at least 50% of the cost of the dance. If I like the person, I will tip much better...and so far in all the times I've been out, there's only been one person like that, and that's been recently. She just struck me the right way right off the bat. She got great tips, and she deserves every bit IMO. But, that's a bit off topic.

Dancing is sales, and sales is sales...if you don't click with the customer, your sales will drop. It's probably better to do your dance regardless of the tips, and move on. Find the customers who tip well and stick by them.
It's all mind over matter. If I don't mind, it doesn't matter.

Tips?! I'd be lucky! Only in some clubs where they have funny money, you can get tipped on stage. I think it's the novelty that it doesn't actually feel like 'your' money being spent. But even that is getting rarer.

I want to introduce tipping to my old club when I start back and make the management encourage it. It gives dancers incentive to liven up stage shows and LDs and it's more interactive for the crowd and that can't be a bad thing.

I don't tip, I just pay the 20 a dance. Maybe I could see tipping if I was getting only 1 or 2 dances from several different ladies, but I always get my dances from one dancer & all my money is going to her anyways. I never spend less than $200.00 with my fav. girl & I spend at least $30 to $50 on her drinks. Those bar drinks are what really hits me hard in the
wallet!

The signs in my club say: Recommended gratuity

VIP Lap Dance $20.

They are independent contractors and the price is negotiable in clubs where the dancer doesn't pay fees per dance.. LOL.

Hee, guy asked me what is a typical tip [we have a sign up: "tipping appreciated, but not mandatory!"] I'd only just started working, so I said "uh, between 5-20." I never ask, except once when a guy thought the $2 that fell out of my garter was his, so pocketed it.
I've gotten 0 and up to 40, girls have said they'd gotten $100. Oh, yeah, the dances cost $20, girls are generally topless, but can be nude, though, then not on your lap. Club takes half of VIP money.

I dont really expect a tip from someone knowing he just gave me a few dances (its' $20 a dance). Usually guys will just pay for the dance. A few might give an extra $5 but its not common to tip for a lapdance.

Well, in my case, usually the guy will tip me about 5-10 bucks when he's spent 100+...sometimes I get tips, other times I don't. Usually, if the guy really enjoyed the dance(s), he tips. And no, I don't get an attitude based on the tip/nontip. The only time I get pissed is if a guy doens't listen to me about my personal boundaries. And the only time I really ask is if he's spent 100+ and hasn't tipped...If he does, great. If not, there's still no harm in just asking.

It can do harm to your prospects for repeat business. Believe me, most customers are turned off when dancers asks for tips.

Wow-- I've always wondered if my husband and I were being "good" tippers or being cheap. I feel like this thread has but us in the middle of the road.

We usually will buy several dances a night out. They are $60 for 1 song-- for the 2 of us to go together. The dancer gets $40 of that. The 99% of the time I will tip her an additional $20 for that dance (there was 1 girl who was just terrible--we only gave her $10). Now after we bought a dance, I feel obligated to tip her more when she does her stage sets. So rather than the normal $2-4 we tip almost every dancer, during every set-- we usually tip her upwards of $10 each set she does while we are there. Even if we don't "like" a dancer, we almost always tip her during her sets. It's just the "right" thing to do.

So, I guess we are in the middle of the road, which makes me feel better. I was always worried the girls thought we were being cheap. We see many guys come in-- watch for hours, not tip nor buy any dances. I hate that. I like how the clubs will make a one drink minimum-- well they should have a tipping minimum too!!

The dances are $20 where I work and we keep all the money. After a dance, I usually smile, and say to the customer, "You're welcome to tip me if you liked really liked my dance." Most guys will tip $3-$5. Many of the girls tell customers that the cost of a dance is $20 plus tips.

Repeat customers generally give me bigger tips, but I don't expect it, especially if the come to see me frequently. In addition to this, most customers tip while we do out stage sets. Some tip a single dollar while others throw money on top of you.

I agree with LapOfLuxury here, the guy just spent $100 on you and you're basically implying to him that he's cheap for not tipping extra, not a good way to get repeat business in my mind, I know I wouldn't be in any hurry to spend money on you again.

I think if you liked her dance you should give her a few extra dollars, if it was uncomfortable for you or she stole from you or something then only get the one dance and move on.. if you really like her dances then give her more, prefrably at least $5. I used to work somewhere that had $25 dances, I kept $20, 5 to the house. The nice guys gave me a twenty and a ten and let me keep it all. or if they got more dances they would just round up to the nearest twenty. One time I worked somewhere that had $8 dances, it just seemed terribly cheap of guys who asked for change when they gave me a ten. i understand if you want your change if you spent $60 on dances and gave me a hundred, but a ten? come on, if you are gonna be cheap get a supscribtion to victorias secret.... I have gotten $100 tips from guys who didnt even get a dance before. I really like the random twenty and ten's too, but a $5 is appriciated.

TIPS orignally stood for To Insure Prompt Service, it was for tea garden servers, if you left money on the table you were more likely to get faster service and not have to wait on it. It has evolved into "if you tip you will get faster friendlier service next time" its a reputation thing, if you are a notorious non-tipper then your server or your dancer or whoever won't care when you show up. If you are a notorious tipper you will be well liked by anyone you tip. It works better when you are a regular.

exactly, its a set price for a service provided. if you go to a restraunt you pay for your meal which included in the price of that is the cost of the food, the cost of preparing it (pay the cook) the cost of serving it (servers measly 2.13/hr) plus the cost of the electric/rent/water/etc, then a little bit left over in profit. you still tip the server even if you spent $80 (thats like 16 bucks) just on the food, right? when you get a dance you are paying for the electric/rent/water/etc. plus the equivilent of the 2.13, obviously you don't have to pay the cook though shouldnt you tip?
