    Default question about school.

Im in college now (pre med) But not exactly happy.

I was just wondering who here has a college degree or is currently going to college and what degree they have/are getting.

Do you enjoy it? How are your classes going?
Has anyone had any chemistry's yet?

I'm almost done with a bachelors degree in psychology, to be followed by a masters in social work.

I'm one of those weird people that loves school and loves learning. I've been taking eighteen credits at a time for a year and a half now and have a 3.8 GPA. Sometimes I think I'm addicted to school... except for statistics. I don't know if I would survive chemistry.

My advice is if you don't like what your learning and it isn't important to you than learn something else.

I lurved my intro to chemistry. Depends on the teacher and other items, smaller classes are better than large, etc. I'm in my 5th semester of any time, 2nd full time. Eventually nursing degree, though the sciences are swaying me. Since I've probably got a year of waiting for that program to open you can bet I'm taking astronomy and other things I've always wanted to, but never have, taken.

I'm nearing my final year for my bachelors in political science and I plan to go to law school after. My advice- if you don't like premed, find something you do like. I was pre pharmacy for most of my first two years and HATED it... I was miserable and then I realized that I wouldn't survive the 6 years. At the end of my 2 years as pre-pharmacy, my GPA was about 3.0... now I'm at a 3.5 and have had a 4.0 since I changed majors!!!

I, as well, am a school dork. I graduated high school in 3 years- without summer school or anything- just because I got bored with the cirriculum. I love writing and edit papers. Ever since I was little, and this extended during middle school Algebra, I've done math problems in my head for fun.

Most of what you do as an undergraduate has very little relation to what you do as an occupation....
But its the only credential that can open the doors.

I love learning, and have taught at the college level.

I have an Ivy League degree, a master of arts, and an MBA. I didn't think I'd make it through statistics and accounting, but most people think I know a lot more than I really do.

So hang in there and don't get discouraged. The piece of paper is IMPORTANT !

My major is journalism - minor spanish (which i am finishing this semester!!)

I don't know exactly what type of journalism I want to go into yet. I've always been good at writing - and currently work for a newspaper out of ohio that is published in 5 states - I review bands and get into shows for free and stuff like that - it's sweet. Originally I picked journalism because I wanted to go into photography but my parents pretty much told me they'd disown me...they said I'd never get anywhere with that. Anyways for some reason they liked the idea of photo-journalism....now I'm starting to sway more towards broadcast journalism....

I love all my journalism classes....and the perks of being like oh um I'm gonna write a bad review if you don't get this show started now...and watch as bands scurry out on stage. Spanish is sucking majorly now, I think I know that I'm just about done and am kind of slacking...

I haven't had to take chemistry since high school. I'm glad!

I would do whatever makes you happy....yeah things get tough but if you don't like it...hey it's only the rest of your life - I'd strive for happiness

My best friend did her undergrad in biochem and loved it. Now she is working on her master's/Phd in biochem and absolutely hates it, too much labwork PLUS she has to T.A. Quite a change from her original intentions...now she wants to work for a non-profit or maybe go to law school...desires and goals change, maybe you can try another major. BUT, it it definately an advantage to get a math/science/engineering degree than liberal arts...

I did liberal arts undergrad and got my MBA in international business. After 6 years of school, I don't think I will ever go back, and don't even want to work in any of my specialty fields...having too much fun stripping and starting businesses...fun!!!

I'm a junior English major. I love books and the classes I take, but it's easy to get overwhelmed or discouraged by school. Don't do something you despise, but don't give up on something if you think you'd like the career because you don't want to do a couple of years of school. (Quite a noncommital answer, eh?)

I started out studying pre-veterinary medicine. You basically have to have a 4.0 gpa to get into vet school, so I changed my major to equine business management. Was 2 classes away from my bachelors degree in that when I changed schools and majors. I'm now studying Graphic Design, but find it very difficult to go to those 3 hour long art classes. My plan at this time is to enroll in a totally different school that offers my degree in Graphic Design totally online, so that I can work on things when I have time and don't have to drive to class and listen to the boring teachers.

    Hi,
I just wanted to say don't be discouraged. If you have a genuine interest, understand that grades aren't everything. I am a junior and a double major in Biological and Political Sciences. It is tough but if you hang in there you can do it. A tip someone gave me . . .knock out those pre-med requirements early on because it isn't just your actual GPA they look at but grade trends. I took all the chem and physics the first two years so now I can show an upward grade trend at the end. I ended up deciding I want to pursue healthcare law, but I don't regret the path. If I had quit because it was too hard maybe I never would have found something related that I love. Goodluck and you can always pm me if you would like to talk or get more advice.

    XOXOXO

i had a major once i wanted to be ateacher but then i finally realized with the help from others that i don't actually want to work for anyone. i 'd rather help out in various causes and stay home caring for my kids while my future hubby works. and what i would be doing would still be work. so now i figure i'd just continue learning a bnch of stuff and if i get a major, cool if not oh well (unless i just do general liberal arts). i already have a certificate for teacher's adie fro ma correspondense school which i like doing- it's at my pace which can be quite slow at times. and it's accredited so it counts.

to the first poster- you must really like science? and yeh labs can be sucky.

I was a Psych/Sociology major till my junior year when I did a field placement and had a huge change of heart. I decided since I love school so much to try something totally different. I decided to change my major to Engineering Physics.

I have a degree in Respiratory Therapy and am licensed to practice in NY and NJ. Unfortunately, saving people's lives in emergency rooms doesn't pay well enough to provide for my son properly, so I'm dancing instead !

I have an Associate's in Arts, Social Sciences (means nothing, basically) and am currently one year shy of my Bachelor's in Sociology, minoring in Pol Sci. After that I plan on applying to the New School for Social Research in NYC for my Master's in Social Work or Applied Soc, and eventually want to become a licensed Social Worker and carry out research. To me, working in strip club and meeting/talking to all different types of people is almost like field work!

I go to a major university and work my tail off. The funny thing is that the more I learn, the less I know what I want to focus in.

It's funny that I lead this wild stripper life on the side, but I work harder and am smarter than 90% of the kids in my class. The screwed up stripper stereotype is SOOO wrong.
