Does anyone own one of these? (from http://www.lilmynx.com) It sounds exactly like what I'm looking for but I wanted to get an idea of it's stability. I really want a pole at home!
Thanks!

Hi Tia- as far as poles at home go, i dont have any first hand experience with the lilmynx poles BUT- i used to have a pole in my old apartment in Florida from www.platinumstages.com. i would not recommend this stage for various reasons; 1, it isnt mounted into the ceiling and is not very stable, and 2, it is on a square stage about a foot above the floor, which makes it hard to do tricks on.
so- since moving into a tiny apt. in NYC i dont have room for any sort of pole, but if i did i would DEF. buy the lil mynx one; although i dont think it's mounted into the floor, just the ceiling. and since you can take the pole out and store it, it's pretty slick.

Why's that? LOL!Originally Posted by Tia_q link=board=27;threadid=7275;start=msg82656#msg8265 6 date=1078861394

It's all mind over matter. If I don't mind, it doesn't matter.
I think Gynger has one of these. There are some threads about home poles on the site, maybe try a site search for more help.

I have a chrome finish lil mynx pole, and I find it to be very sturdy. I think it can only hold up to 250lbs or so. I think as long as you attach it to a beam (you may have to go in the attic or get a stud finder from home depot) in the ceiling it will not sway. I installed mine on top of carpet, btw.
Eyeliner and charisma go a long way!

hey tia!
i have a black painted lil' mynx pole at home. it's very, very sturdy. you don't need to worry about that so long as the mount is screwed into a stud in your ceiling, as ice queen mentioned.
you do need a carpet base. as i have hardwood floors, i simply use a rubber-backed bathroom rug. it works perfectly well, even with the craziest of moves.
also, the screw in the ceiling may need tightened every so often if you are doing a lot of spins.but even when mine has become a little loose, i could tell way before the pole could potentially give way!
one last thing....... keep in mind that painted and even chrome poles are no where near as gripping to your skin as brass. most clubs have brass, so if you find some tricks a little tough at home, they'll be that much easier in the club.
good luck!
I also have a lil' mynx pole in my basement. However it is pretty darn new so its still really slick, any one got any tips on how to put some quick wear on it? Or even something to clean it with. BUT i must say its surprisingly a whole lot more stable than i expected!

Thank you all for your responsesGuess it's definitely something I'm going to look into
After getting diagnosed with Bursitis, I can't do nearly the amount of tricks I used to-so it's definitely time to learn some new ones (preferably without falling on the stage).
Enigma-it's always good for a girl to have a pole *g*
I think you should just install your own pole and save the money. By the time you finish paying for the pole, taxes, and shipping you would have spent close to $300...for $100 you could get everything together from your local Home Depot...at least that's what I did.

Is your pole floor-mounted? I don't mind mounting something to the ceiling but I am less eager to put holes in my carpet/floor.
How did you do it?

I have a black lil'mynx pole, but was wondering if their new stainless pole is more "grippy" or more slippery than the painted ones. By the way, I just use a bathroom mat under a rug on top of my hardwood floor and have not had any problems.
You can mount something into your floor...However, if you do not want to do that, you can always make a "base". Get some plywood and put carpet on it...measure from that point to the ceiling and then install the pole. It's very sturdy (if done right) and then you can take the pole down.

I have a black pole, too, and the dmn thing is so slick it's next to impossible to practive complicated tricks. I'm thinking about roughing mine up with some sandpaper or steel wool. I've tried wearing weight-lifting gloves, leather gloves, and dousing the thing with hairspray. I considered using cough syrup, but I don't want my whole body to stick to the thing...lol... I also thought about wrapping the length of it with duct tape, but if it doesn't work out there's no way I'll be able to get it off. If I get up the nerve to sand the thing I'll let you know how it pans out.

Anyone have 1st hand experience w/ the stainless steel finish ?
The painted ones make me wonder how long they'd stay useable. I mean won't the paint begin to peel after it gets scratched by heels or something else
Anyone have experience w/ all 3 finishes ? What r the pros n cons of each ?

Okay, so for no reason in particular my pole doesn't seem so slick today. Maybe my skin is just naturally stickier on Tuesdays..... anyway, the black finish pole is working just fine. I'm hanging upside down without breaking my face so I have no more complaints. I still stand behind my sandpaper idea though.
