    Default Bulky Muscle

I've been working out quite a bit. Before I started I Was soft and round. Now I just look hard and round. I've lost a couple of inches but I think I look pretty bulky. Is there any was to reverse this? Any excercises I can do to elongate the muscles? It looks like the beginning of a bodybuilder's figure. Ugh.

stretches, stretches. they lengthen out the muscles. pilates has also been recommended because it is based on special stetching techniques.

but always stretch before and after workout to help avoid bulk!

If you're using weights (which I assume is probably the case) switching to a lighter weight and doing a greater number of reps is good for "leaner lines." If you already use very light weight doing exercises such as crunches and yoga poses which don't use wieght other than that provided by your own body are often good for "leaning out." Also, as far as cardio goes, the stairstepper, rowing machines, and bikes will all add some "bulk" in the form of muscle development. Running or using an eliptical trainer can often reverse a lot of this, but be wary 'cause some eliptical trainers will have you doing lots of hills (like a stair climber). Remember that you're still beautiful! Hope this helps!

I dont know of your body type exactly, but if you have some fat over your muscles, it will make you look more bulky. So first I'd say to do what the others mentioned, stretch, and use high reps/low weight, but also, do cardio. This ties into what I meant about fat. If you have a layer of fat over your muscles, you can lose that with cardio.
    Good luck

I have just started doing a great work out program called the Lotte Berk Method. You can get the videos at a Barnes and Noble or Borders (I can't remember which one). The program combines pilates, ballet, yoga and lots of hip movement. It is really great and they are really into muscle elongation.

I think you look great, you looked fab when I saw you last month, firm and feminine.

I recommend the usual suspects, yoga and pilates. Yoga has been great for me.....

If you looked soft and round before that means you're losing weight. I don't know if you consider that a good thing. Anyway , body builders get their bulky muscles by pumping it up with several sets (4-6), moderate repetitons (8-12) ,and short rests (15-45 sec.). This process fluhes the muscle with blood and enhances bulk. Notice I did not say strenght. If you want a workout that more firms and tones your muscles then try pilates that stretch your muscles through the full range. When your muscles are stretched , relaxed, and strong then they don't take on a bulky appearance but that of a normal contour.

Thanks for the help guys. I did a yoga class on Tuesday and it felt fantastic! It was harder than I thought though. We were switching positions like crazy.

I did feel more stretched out. Thanks.

    Lexi is right on.

just do more cardio and cut out excess sugar; you will lose the fat layer on top and appear toned and not at all "bulky".
