Default HELP PLEASE???

Hi everyone...

Ok, I'm posting this in General, because I'm hoping either the ladies or gents can help me with this....

For the past 3 days, I've been having pains in my upper abdomen. They aren't really severe, BUT.. They feel like hunger pains? It's a constant thing. Eating something helps it for a very short time, and then it's back to the "hunger pains".

I did some research on the web, and a possibility that came up was a Gall Bladder problem? Has anyone had this type of thing happen before? And more importantly, has anyone ever had to get their gallbladder removed? If so, what were your symptoms that led to needing the surgery? I've also had terrible heartburn since this started, on and off, and I never get heartburn.

Any help would be very appreciated. I know I should see a doctor, but hubby's working late tonight, so he won't be home until about 11pm. If it gets really bad, I'll just head to the ER after he gets home, but I could really use some input.

Thank you so much!

Dancers have alot of stress. You are too young for alot of these but here are "guesstimates." The floowing are aggrevated by stress:

acid reflux ("GERD") Fairly easily treated now with Nexium pill
Could be gall bladder. Thats for older women or men usually.
The old fashioned "ulcer." Not as common as it used to be.
Long shot. Your're pregnant.

Given your age I guess acid reflux. Let us know what it was.

Thanks Niceguy. Well, I definitely know I'm not pregnant, so we can rule that out.. lol.. Monthly bill came yesterday.. so I'm all set with that.

Could an ulcer cause the "hunger pain" thing? I would say that's the biggest problem I have with this. it's not like a regular easygoing type of hunger pain either, it's the full fledged, stomach growling and excruciating pain kind. I just had a bowl of cereal, and five minutes later, it started up again? I know I'm not hungry, so it's definitely annoying.

I know that my hubby's ex wife had to have her gallbladder taken out 2 years ago, and she's a year younger than I am. I'd call and ask her, but.. um.. I don't like her..

I'm the type to wait until last minute to see a doctor about anything really. So, I'm hoping this is something that will be able to wait until hubby gets home later?

My first thought was acid reflux when reading your post. Niceguy's post makes me a bit more confident with that. I have an ex who had that, and he had pretty much constant problems if he didn't take his pills. It apparently causes some severe frequent 'heartburn' as the most common symptom. Is your stomach growling also, or is it just the 'hunger pain'?

Rhi, I don't know where you draw the line for "upper abdomen," but it could be any of these, or diverticulitis, cystitis, ulcer, just a manifestation of stress... I mean, there's many possibilities....

but you won't know for certain till you get checked out. Please do.

when you go to ur doctor ask about a pill called protonix. If that prescription doesnt work then u might have to have a scope done.

all i know about the galbladder is if its removed you have to seriously lower your fat intake for a while, until your liver is able to take over its functions.

i get acid reflux all the time, and its never accompanied by hunger(and generally eating just makes it worse). so i dont think its that.

i hate [going to see] doctors too, sorry i couldn't be of anymore help. might be galbladder, or maybe an ulcer, but i have no clue.

It could also be food poisoning, although that tends to be more of a stabbing pain than a constant pain. Maybe you got a bad Dunkin Donut?

See the doc ASAP. I'm not one, just do alot of medical research due to a condition in the family we have to deal with. The symptom of yours that stays in my mind is your pointing out the upper abdomen. Food posioning is usually lower abdomen. (Had a case once on a bad
Thanksgiving turkey. Will always remember those aftereffects.)
The hunger pain is different for different people and of course how much hunger you are in. With me it has always been a burning pain, causing me to eat and the pain goes away. I've actually lost weight by taking
Nexium because it takes away the burning sensation of hunger, which was actually mild acid reflux so I don't feel I need to eat as much.
Need to get it checked out. The stress thing is just aggravating
whatever problem you have. Might be a very simple fix like OTC
Prilosec or prescription nexium. I don't even take Nexium every day about once every three days. You do need to do something.
Might also be a sympton of a slightly imflamed appendix but you didn't say which side of the body the pain was on.

Go see a doctor first. There is no point speculating about the causes. Don't anticipate unnecessary operations. It could be anything from acid reflex to a stroke. None of us here are qualified to diagnose your problem.

Rhia: I had an ulcer flare up...and I had the same symptoms...but, my ulcer would only feel better if I ate light, non-acidic foods (if I ate an orange, I was really regretting that within minutes).

It could be anything...so you need to go to the doctor.
Please come back and tell us what happened and how you're doing....

Hugs,
Venus

Thanks guys.. I went to the ER shortly after my posts last night/this morning. After about 4 hours waiting (lol), I was diagnosed with a lovely stomach ulcer.. ugh.. They tested me also for gallbladder disease, because they said that some of the symptoms did sound like it, but luckily, it wasn't. Whew.. So, they put me on some antibotics to fight infection, and gave me some Tagamet. They said I should start feeling better real soon. Thank Goddess it isn't something more serious.

I have to schedule a follow-up with my doc in a few days. Just thought I'd give you all an update. Thanks for all your help!

First, go see your doctor! Yes, hunger type pains relieved by eating can be associated with an ulcer, or more commonly gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining). You need to be checked out.
It's all mind over matter. If I don't mind, it doesn't matter.

Rhiannon,
Look at it as an advantage. You have a built in argument winner. If things aren't going your way say the other person is making your tummy hurt. I better leave now and sell my Dunking Donuts stock before Martha Stewart gets ahold of the information.

LOL Don't worry, Monty.. I'll keep them in business! Instead of 2 cups of their coffee a day, maybe I'll cut down to 1? And a half? lol..

Venus, since you've had flare-ups before.. Can you tell me generally how long they last for? This is my 3rd day, so I'm hoping the end is near?

Could be something as easy as gas that will start moving, or serious as a gall bladder problem, which requires surgery but there are many simple ways now of going in to the gall bladder if that worries you. Rhiannon, seriously take your pick of any number of conditions. See a Doc. if this is not gone very soon.
