    Default fake accents

Has anyone here every used a fake accent as part of their act? And if so, which language did you fake? Just curious because I remember when my ex and I got jobs at the Roaring 20's in SF last year the manager suggested to her that she try to talk with an accent to turn the customers on. She didn't do it though...we both tried for a minute and we made ourselves laugh way too hard to ever be taken seriously. She was "Russian" and I was "British" (ok I know a British accent shouldn't be so hard but it still cracked me up listening to myself).

LOl! Being born and raised in Sweden, we speak with "hard" letters. I moved to the states early on, but my family has a very harsh accent. I do my BEST to sound american. IF i talk fast i sound Brit. I don't really care either way. Now my mother....wow she is still in Sweden, and her words are strange! My sister moved to the states as well with me, and kinda speaks better than me.

I can pull off a NO accent very well i like to think. But if i talk speak fast, and don't thnk about my words anyone will pick up that i do have an accent. So i can go both ways.

Have i talked with out an accent, mostly i clubs? Hell i have been over here most of my life. But being raised around the accent and hearing it almost 3 times a week, it stays with ya!

I don't like the way i sound, so no, i don't play it up i the clubs. I love NO accent best. Swedish is very harsh, thank god i sound more brit normally. But can fool people very well without it!

A girl I work with uses a fake English accent. I'm not sure why she does it, but it does sound kind of cute on her.

In an area where there aren't many exotic girls, a slight affectation can entice some customers. In Houston for instance, there are not that many Russian dancers, or at least I have not met many...so I totally work that into my persona even though I've been speaking english since I was a kid....might not work in clubs where patrons prefer all american girls....

I know a New York accent isnt the most exciting, but I have a slight east coast accent already...so when I sit with customers (especially if I have been drinking) I tend to thicken it up a lot with out realizing it sometimes. Customers enjoy it tho because there arnt many east coast accents in the middle of the desert....so it usually works.

Yeah I've done it, its kinda fun for a change of pace. I had a awesome Thai friend and she had the cutest voice and one day she got me to do a British ( which kinda came out Aussie sounding sometimes ) and we would play it off to brake the ice with pairs of customers.
If you try this just say that your parents have the accent and keep your normal story or you'll get busted.

But even if you do get busted guys usually laugh anyway !

you know ive been meaning to try this onenight: pretend i dont know any english and go up to some customers like" Hey bad boy you buy dance from Ming Ling? $20!! You buy now!!!" and see if that makes me any more dough, but i havnt gotten enough courage to try it. that and ive been at my club for a couple years now so its kinda hard to pull off if there are a lot of regulars

I am something of a magpie when it comes to accents. If I have been talking to a lot of mexican guys over the course of a week, I will start to pick up the spanish accent, which may seem like I am making fun if I am not at work.

I worked two weeks in Fargo, ND. My husband thought that it was the funniest thing to talk to me on the phone, and would give me a bad time about sounding like I was Minnesota, or North Dakota. Even now, if I am around my friend from Minnesota, I tend to start sounding like I'm from that area too.

lol! People get confused a lot of the time with my natural accent. I've even had people think I fake it! I believe it's because my accent does not match my appearance. But surprisingly, I get complimented on it because of that reason. Even more so recently from strangers because I've been travelling and have picked up some twangs here and there.

So I guess I'm a natural catch in the accent department!
