Default Root touch- up at home?

Is it a completely awful, disastrous idea to try this? I'm exasperated with paying $130 to have half an inch of growth covered.

My hair is naturally a dark brown and is colored a medium blonde with darker sections underneath and light blonde pieces throughout. It was initially bleached when I first went blonde over a year ago, but my stylist just uses color now.

If I purchased salon-quality hair color can I do this at home without ruining everything? Needless to say, I'm worried about orange roots.

Do any of you do blonde coloring at home or have advice?

Jayln, it might be a tad hard to get your dark brown hair to a medium blonde without turning it orange. If ya dont know what your doing, this could happen. It happened to me before. LOL
When I was blonde I tried to go back to brown and ended up with some wonderful shades of green!
To go from dark brown to medium blonde, you'd need to get a blonde color with ash, to get the red out of your brown hair...if not, it will leave the red, and this is what turns it orange. Even still, you may not know what color to get exactly.
    Are there any cheaper places?

I do all my blonde at home, now i a very light again. For root touch up, buy an old cheap straw hat, poke holes, or cut out the area you want touched up! The hat must have a large rim, so the coloured hair does not touch the new bleach again.

And do your roots! It takes some practice, but better than foil, easier.

    Great advice Pamela!!!
I am going to get my roots done for $140 this week too, but I just need to see how the woman fixes them because I lightened my hair overal to a really light honey brown, then added cap highlights..now the brown roots are coming and I don't know how to just touchup the roots with this two-tone color either!!

I will update with any useful advice on Tuesday..let me know what you decide to do Jayln!!

Yea i liked the cap thing, but i highlight all over the top, underneath my hair is very very dark (i dye underneath almost black) The cap became very hard to pull long hair threw, so the rimmed sun hat works great! And cutting out what holes you need is neat!

Your hair hangs over the rim so no worry of hitting coloured hair again.

I love it! If you try this in the future let me know it works right where you want it to!!
