    Default The stage and you....

    Here's the thing...

My club doesn't have a DJ.. it has the music on "auto-pilot" as such where they turn on a computer and press play. There are only 3-4 songs in all of that rotation that I like which has plenty of enough songs to last 9 hours without repeating.

Now.. they've had the same songs on this "auto-pilot" since approx. late November. I can't remember since then if they have added to or taken away any songs in that rotation. Now that you know that all I'm hearing for 4 shifts a week for the last couple of months are the same old damn songs... how would you react to this sitation?

How much is your confidence linked to how good you feel on stage ???

Due to the fact that the music hasn't changed and we are now in the slow season for my region ... the audience energy isn't so 'high' either because sometimes you are lucky to have 10 people in the club or even if you do have 30 people... they just don't seem to be "there" (if you know what I mean) ??? I'm finding my motivation to sell/hustle lap dances has decreased due to how my stage 'hustle' (performance) isn't as motivating.... just feels like I'm doing the same old damn thing.

Hence I do know that my confidence with myself on stage is directly linked with my motivation to hustle/sell lap dances.... is there anyone else that is similiar to me ?? If you are with the stage.. do you find this affect your ability to hustle/sell lap dances and/or motivation ???

Uhg! I hate computerized music. That sounds worse than just the approved databank of songs found in many clubs. Do the songs play in the same order or is it random?

I'd ask to upload ONE song at first, you know, just to get my foot in the door. I'd keep asking too. If at first you don't succeed...

It's free music for them and keeps you from going insane.

It is a 'databank' of songs as such and it always plays in the same order. The way they 'mix it up' is by making say song 10 the first song and then another night song 20 the first song then go from there... however still in the same order.

They won't start updating the songs until around Sept/October like they did last year. I wish I was in a position where I could give them some music to upload however I'm not... so I don't.

However do you feel that how well you do on stage (your confidence on stage) is linked to how well you do hustling ??

Yes. Absolutely. When I'm bored I'm just not motivated.

I love music. It's one of the best things about this job. I love a killer sound system and booming tunes.

Good music is like a drug; sometimes it's better than weed! It's very important to my mindset and mental health. If the music sucks the party sucks.

From my experience, the right music will make all the difference in the world.

This is especially true for newbies or women who have been previously suffering a bad night, but I have seen veteran dancers--who had told me it didn't matter what I played--get pumped up and get the crowd riled, with great benefit to their earnings. Many people don't believe it matters, especially those who have worked in clubs where the guys are only there to see who will blow them. It is a lot harder to pull off in clubs like this, but I have done it on occasion.

Most DJs haven't a clue on how to read a dancer and figure out what it will take to do this. Management tends to display a colossal disregard for this ability, being much more concerned with fake "high energy", no matter how tacky or inane, and ass-kissing. My lack of respect for these idiots has not helped me in the Daytona clubs.

I love doing this more than the fucking money it brings. It doesn't always work, you can't please them all, but I have a good track record.

Maybe you could tell managment about the motivation factor with the music. But chances are he paid a lot for the system and will tell you to deal with it. If a customer complained he might think twice.

I saw in a magazine that there is a women who gets paid 6000 dollars a job to go into restaurants and bars and plan their music selections.

Music is everything. It gets me in the zone. I cannot stand listening to repetitive crap.

If I am not feeling the "mood" on the stage...it affects my money off of the stage. I feel that the stage is your strongest selling point...and if you look bored on-stage (or angry or depressed) who's going to want to part with their money for that?

I had one night where I was all pumped and psyched up to do a wonderful stage show...and I did...and made $60 in 2 songs...the dances I got afterwards were great too!!

I don't usually concern myself with the money I make on the stage, however, I do pay attention...if there are a lot of people there and I don't make any money I take another look at my attitude...sometimes I find that it needs a little tweaking before going out onto the floor.

Repetitive music is boring...however, I find that I listen less to the music and move more with the flow...concentrating on myself instead of the music...that helps tune out the repetition.

At one of the last clubs I worked in, which was getting it's ass thoroughly kicked by the big new club in town, the owner decided to fight back by implementing an incredibly strict music program. The dancers were pissed as hell, as was I, but argument was fruitless. One night some customers were sympathetic to the girls on hearing their plight. they told me they would request the songs for the girls and pay them well for it--nothing unreasonable, except not allowed according to "the list".

I was all for it, but warned them that customer requests were not permitted. They were turned down, but stayed a while longer.

They wound up leaving eventually after angrily complaining to management. I wound up getting in big trouble and this incident was used as evidence in favor of my eventual dismissal "The customers complained about your music." (They theoretically accepted my notice, about a month later--given after I was asked to come in and copy the other DJ more--whatever--it was like getting fired).

But I did get the satisfaction of watching the place go to shit for another year or so....

The "WAH!" in this link was a quote from an asshole who didn't like my posts about working in this place.

I would love for a few of the regular punters to make a suggestion about the music however they don't really care nor notice. No one comes in THAT often that they really notice how repeative it really is....

I'm not being negative here.. I'm just stating what happens. It looks like I'm stuck with the repeative music...

There is a thread in the music section of this board about 'over played songs'... LOL.. ALL the songs are over-played at my club from a dancer perspective. :o

Confidence has everthing to do with motivation. A more confident person is more likely to get more sales. Music doesn't have all that much to do with confidence. If I'm dancing anywhere to music that I don't enjoy that much , my confidence still shows through.
I'm surprised the title of your article doesn't relate that much to the topic.
