Two cops taken off streets after rape accusation
Two Northeast Philadelphia police officers were taken off the street and reassigned to desk jobs last week after a woman accused them of sexually assaulting her.
According to an official police department source, the officers are under investigation by both the special victims unit and internal affairs division of the police department.
Another department source said that the officers’ accuser is employed as a stripper at Daydreams, on the 5200 block of Unruh Ave. in Tacony.
The woman was not at work when the alleged attacks occurred, the source said.
The incident was reported to the police department on the morning of Dec. 11.
The officers were reassigned on the same day. They are not working in the 15th Police District.
According a report published by The Philadelphia Inquirer, the woman told investigators that she was stopped by the suspect officers on the 6400 block of Frankford Ave., only a few blocks from her place of work, shortly after midnight.
The woman allegedly told investigators that she was using drugs at the time, the Inquirer reported.
The police officers allegedly ordered the woman into the back of a patrol car, where one of them raped her and the other forced her to perform oral sex, before releasing her, the newspaper reported.
Hours later, the woman allegedly reported the incident to the 26th Police District.
A police department spokesman did not reveal the names of those involved nor confirm any details about the incident.
According to police sources, both officers have about a half-dozen years in the department and had been assigned to the 15th district for about two years each.
