I knew a model that danced two hours away from where she lived. She was dancing in her city until someone from her agency or something came in and got VERY angry to see her dancing. She was told in no uncertain terms that if she continued dancing, she would not continue modeling.

I would quit immediately, until the show is taped. America likes to keep their sex workers in one corner and the "good girls" in another.

I know they do background checks and such so you might want to lay low from the club you dance at and maybe tell them, before they find out..
But congrats that you got accepted!

Congrats hon...I'd say it is the same for them...so lay low from the club. It sux...but the same reasons they want you (youre hot and sexy) is the same reason they dont want dancers or adult pros (too hot and sexy)...

I'm a photographer in Scranton pa (2 hrs north of you) and have had several girls with adult backgrounds (nastier than dancing) get turned on from some legit gigs because of it..but the ones that kept quiet got away with it - AND GOT THE JOB

Hey its not like your a prostitute or drug addict. If you are up front about your dancing career you might be accepted. However if you aren't it could bite you in the ass.

    CONGRADULATIONS!!! Top Model that's awesome.

There is more to you than just being a "stripper". Make sure those judges and the audience knows that.

Being a stripper can only help you in your modeling career from where I see it. I am not involved in the modelling industry, but you are comfortable with your body and your sexuality. You know what positions and movements make you look good. You are more aware than the average woman about health and beauty subjects. Plus you probably have the personality skills to move you along in the business.

I have heard some scary shit about Tyra though. Do you guys know that she is starting a singing career??? She is pretty good too.

I saw one girl on the show who was sexing it up to much and the judges didn't like that. May be something to remember while posing for the camera.

Congratulations!!! I wanted to apply for the show, but I was 2 inches under the height requirement I hope you do very well!

I'm not sure whether you should tell them or not..on the one hand, they may look down on you for it, just because society still believes in the Hollywood stripper stereotype. On the other hand, they'll know that you have to confidence to deal with the industry. And as MotherDasisy said, even if you don't tell them, they might found out anyway. So I guess I would say tell them, but let them know that you're not currently dancing. Like the others said, quit if you can for now.

BTW, yes, the infamous "Frenchie" was banned from American Idol after word got out that she had posed topless on the internet. BUT, on Season 1, ther was a contestant (Nikki I think?) who was an ex-stripper, and the show didn't have a problem with that.

Wow congrats! i LOVED the first series.....

If there is a risk of them finding out, then you should come clean. Its suprising to me though that being a stripper is such a big deal that you could be disqualifed from a show.... i don't think anyone would even care here.

the way I see it, you've already been accepted. Why risk blowing it by telling them you "used" to be a stripper? Do that and you're likely out of the game.

On the other hand, lets say you turn out to be a real winner, lots of exposure, then they find out the truth and disqualify you or take away your title. Well, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

btw, I've sat in the playboy tv casting room and overheard the girls say to not lie about past adult work they've done. They said they don't know how, buy playboy always finds out about past layouts/videos etc.

i have a friend that was on the first american idol. she made it to the top 30. she was a dancer. she just said she was a student, she did however still live at home. she was also in the top 10 of the first pop stars. no one found out. who knows if she would have made it further if they would have found out. like saph said if they were to disquilify you at the end, it wouldnt be horrible, unless of course you cant let anyone find out. maybe work as a waitress untill it's over?

The girl that got disqualified was given a recording deal anyways so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Congrats on making Top Model BTW!

Here's what I'd be careful about....(Since I watch Top Model religiously)....Every girl that has come on and has been "sexy" in a normal, non-skinny drug addict, goofy Walgreen's employee, anorexic, "high fashion" way, has been labelled "stripper-ish" and gotten kicked off the show (I even remember Tyra saying "you had too much sex appeal--you looked like a centerfold, not a model). Gosh....I can't remember the girl that got kicked off for that this season....darn it! I'm bad with names! But, yeah, they want "high-fashion" beauty not run-of-the-mill, everyday world beauty. Heck, I think that if Tyra herself had been a contestant, she would have gotten kicked off for being "too commercial" (the line they all love so much). No offense or anything, but I think that Shandi, one of the last three girls this episode, is butt-ugly! She's got big ears, buck teeth, and is scrawny and awkward. If I saw her at her job at Walgreens, I'd think, "boy, SHE'S no competition". God, I really wish they would start picking "normal" people. So girl, you go on there and you WIN it. Do whatever they tell you (even if it means being awkward and not sexy) to win--then change your image from INSIDE the industry. Revolutionize modelling, girl! You go get 'em--I'm behind you nine thousand percent!!!!!

I have done modeling on and off since I was 5 and yes if they find out you are a dancer that will be a problem, a top agency does not want to be associated with that. Also what you dont understand sc girl are top models dont look like playmates, they look like shandie, she has a very high fasion look.I never did run way only print,Iam only 5feet7.But with that said, Iam sure philly dancer has a model look not a playboy look or she wouldnt have made the show, they are not looking for the playboy look they are looking for run way model look. Some of the comercial girls are elliminated because they are better suited for print work and the like ,comercial means you have a typical look more suited for comercial or print work, kind of the the all american blonde blue eyed look. They are looking for a more exotic look for runway and high fashion, which doesnt always mean more beautiful by any means.Alot of top models are not very typically beautiful. They are different.

I'm with Sapphire, I would NOT tell them. There's a huge chance they'll disqualify you before you even get to compete. No way, you've made it this far. If they find out later, it's just publicity and that will only help your career.
