Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop-heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I haven't ever worked there, but will be spending 2 1/2 months there this summer working while going to school. I've heard nothing but good things. The manager sent me an email with the following info: they require a minimum of 3 weeks stay, total tipout is approx. $130 per night and you get $7 hr shift pay, stage is nude (no pole), table dances are topless (low mileage), and new girls are usually required to start the 4pm shift and then later as newer girls arrive. I know that finding a place to stay can be pain as summer is the hot tourist season up north. I put in for housing at the University and hope it comes through!!!!
Hope someone else can elaborate cause I'd love more info as well.

:o Is the minimum stay of 3 weeks required because my friend that im going with says were only going for a week and that is about all i can do for now.

The manager informed me that they require a 3 week minimum. I suppose you could always just dance for a week and bug out unannounced. That is, of course, if you don't plan on ever going back. Or tell them you don't feel comfortable there or something. It would just be a shame to burn a bridge at a good club.

I dont want to burn my bridges but in the the current circumstance i might have to. My boyfriend and i are having our 3 year anniversary in may and i wouldnt want to be gone all month and miss it. thats why im worried about the 3 week thing. plus weve never been apart that long before.

I danced in Alaska in Spring of 99. I hated it. Extra's and prostitution were all over the club. The day I arrived there was a dancer on the phone crying her eyes out saying how awful this place was, and warned me and two other girls just arriving to go home as soon as we can. I thought that she was just a whiner, and went to work and ignored her warning.
Turns out that management lied to me about a lot of things. I was told that housing would be provided (not told that it was a dump, I was led to believe that I would be staying in a motel). I was told that transportation to and from the club would be provided (had to take cabs, covered my own cab fare). I was also told that most nights there was 500 customers coming through the door (probably about 70 customers and that is about how many dancers they had working each night). I basically visualized a Veags style club with Vegas style clientele. The dancers who were making the most money, made it outside the club. The management had a flat $60 fee to leave with a customer.
When I was trying to decide if I wanted to work there I asked if a dancer who is currently working in that club could ccall or email me so I could get an idea as to if I would like that club. A woman called me and told me how great it was to work for this company, how all the security and djs are fun to work with and take good care of the girls if the girls took good care of them etc. Great! I bought my plane ticket and off to Alaska I went.
Well, long story longer, I found out I had spoken to the cashier who had never danced a day in her life, and other various lies. I expected some exageration on the part of management, but outright lies were told to get me to their club. When I complained, the management told me that I had no chioce as I had signed a contract, and was obligated to stay anyhow.
Now I am a fairly tough individual. But I was going home from shifts everyday in tears. I don't normally cry over nothing, but this was the most miserable expierence of my life. I contacted a travel wholsaler, explained my situation and got a plane ticket home for about half the regular price, which I had to put on my credit card.
There were daily dressing room brawls (not just merely drama), and one of the four nights I had worked a dancer had to have emergency medical help due to being beaten so badly by another girl. I imagine it would be a while before she could work again as her face had been beaten badly.
My expierence was not unique for that time. This was 5 years ago, and I really hope that things are much better in Alaska. I only heard good things about Alaska before I left.
If I were to do the same thing today, I would get a plane ticket and make motel reservations for one week. Then I would rent a car once I get there, and see what clubs I like. After I've done that, I would go home and contact the club I liked the best and schedule the 3 week booking, and make them cover the airfare. I also would be willing to bet that if you provided your own housing and transportation the three week minimum wouldn't apply.
Let me know how it goes. I think there are lots of girls curious about Alaska.

Thank you so much for your story, im sorry that your experience was total hell. Your input is greatly appreciated. I am still in limbo as to going or not. my friend told me today that we are already booked so i kinda dont know what to do. I still have a whole month to decide to back out though. I have heard nothing but good things up until your post. So now im alittle scared. Ive never traveled outside washington to dance so i might just try but i hope my experience doesnt end up in disaster. Maybe since im going with someone i will feel alittle safer. dont know though.

The one girl I have ever met who has danced in Alaska was also miserable, telling me the GABC was basically a thinly veiled brothel.

wow....makes Texas seem okeydokey despite all the hoes...I don't have to deal with an agent, can stay with family/friends......if you ladies rean't scurrred...you should come to Houston...be warned, you have to be a hustla.....

I worked there from 7/25 /00 to 12/6 /00. The club was not a brothel then. There is no contact allowed and the managers who have the title housemoms watch all contact. The amount of girls working then was between 25-30 during the week and 35 or so on weekends.
The club does not provide housing and housing as far as extended stay places are scarce. I stayed at a somewhat rundown place called the Arctic Tern Inn for $300 a week for a 2 bedroom apt. Some other dancers stayed there too. The owners were nice though.
They get north slope oil workers in once a month and miners once a month and the night they come in good money is made. In the summer there are tourists who go there to camp and fish but everyday is not full of tourists.
Don't worry about contact. The difference in this club though is that it is run like a 8-5 job. You pick your schedule (5 days a week) and if you are new, (new girls are those there less than 3 years) you come in at 4 and must be on time. You can leave early if you want (at 12 instead of 2) but that is when business is there.
You pay out about $109 a day, and get about $18 a day back on a paycheck on the 5th and 20th. My paychecks were between $225 and $290 net each paydate. If you have a checking acct with First Interstate Bank they can direct deposit it for you. I went this route. Your paychecks there show enough income to qualify for apartments or loans. I made $12,000 on my w-2 during the time I was there.
Business is up and down and not really that much better than anywhere else. You will have some good days and some days where you make under $100. This club does good volume, the best in Anchorage , but locals don't spend much.
Management can be tough at times and they do have their favorites. Luckily the owner liked me and her sister was one of the managers and she was a bitch. If you're sick they can require a doctors note which happened to me and after an altercation with the bitch sister I went to the owner and she set het straight and cut me down to only two 4:00 shifts per week and the ability to work on my days off.
I wouldn't listen to other peoples horror stories about clubs as conditions change all the time in clubs. You have to see for yourself. I had my car so getting around was easy. I didn't feel the money there was worth the trip, but I learned a lot traveling through British Columbia and Alaska by car. We still have Alaska ID's and plates.
Just going there for a week is not feasible. You need to work the 3 weeks. There is another club, Crazy Horse which is the number 2 club there, but it is not as busy. The lady that owns it would hire you probably by phone and she owns a 4 plex and if an apt is available would possibly rent it to you if you agree to stay up there awhile.
If you are only going there for a week, I would skip working. That won't work for you. The best times to go are from Memorial Day weekend through early August.
Any more questions PM me. I can give you more scoop as I was there 4 and 1/2 months and got around more than the average traveling dancer.
