I have no idea if it is true or not, but it seems easy to imagine that the recent (and continuing) bad job market and frequent large scale lay-offs is causing more women to give working in a strip club a try and/or to stay at it longer even if they are not doing too well financially. If so, high unemployment is a sort of "double whammy" for dancers in the sense that the amount of competition increases at just the same time that there are fewer guys with money to spend.

Wwanderer - I am one of those women who decided to try stipping because of the horrible job market. I never would have considered this job under normal circumstances.
I have actually met a lot of women like me who have always had regular office jobs. It's plain old survival for a lot of people out there right now which is why competition is so intense. The club owners are making a fortune off of this bad situation.
I always thought that most strip clubs would have a difficult time trying to find women who would be willing to do this job. It's not something that most women would have the guts to do. But if it's the only chance you have for survival, you do what you have to do.
I have actually grown to be very happy in this new line of work. But, I am sure that once the economy goes back to normal the amount of women desparate enough to give a job like this a try will go down dramatically.
Most people prefer to believe their leaders are just and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which they live is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it. - M Rivero

Thanks for the answer. I have not been spending much time in clubs, especially in the US, in the last few years and so have not talked to that many dancers, but I have heard much the same sort of thing from some other categories of "sex workers". As I said above, it seems to make things sort of doubly tough...though of course it works to the customers' advantage, so as with so many economic effects, what is bad for one person is good for another.

Its hard for me to not to get discouraged when I work at a club that is very much into numbers when there are more girls on the floor than customers. We run specials and we've got like 12 girls working and 8 customers... And, because I have never really had to hustle in the past at clubs I've worked at, I think I am losing my hustle! I actually had one guy who I asked if he wanted dances, do the "once over look" on me and then tell me no...

So when I mention to our GM how slow it is, he says, "Girl it must be you"... what does one say to something like that?

This week has sucked majorally.. usually when I work nights I average $400-600, this week, I've been lucky to come home with 200 and my numbers are low... I need fresh ideas and new suggestions to get my dances, my usual hook lines aren't working...

    Discouraged and feeling unloved.... :'(
omg, u too? yeah that happened to me the other night. it was a ghost town at my club. i had to pay the club $200 & i came home with like $100 & i stayed there ALL through out the freakin shift.

sometimes i really hate this job. :'(

najja and everyone else who can identify with this thread.... I'm there right now.

Granted, I'm lucky in that the stage/door fee is quite low hence one stage-side $20 show/tip will guarantee you a profit of $10 (Sun-Thu) and your fee back (Fri/Sat).

We're in the slow season (typically mid-Autumn thru Winter)... it won't pick up until July. Just can't stand the slowness.. that's all.

    Here's a question:
How do you keep motivated and not get bored when the club is very slow/dead and you don't really have the option of hiding out in the dressing room alot ???

My problem at the moment due to how slow/dead it is at my current club whenever I work... is that the lap dances are far and few between ... and if more than 4 dancers are working my stage sets are two far apart that I tend to miss the times when some one (or people) are tipping....

I'm just plain bored when at work. I don't really have anyone to talk with as I'm relatively new at the club still.... and the patrons aren't always that interesting to talk with (small talk can take us so far).

When I get bored... I start to get de-motivated and hence grumpy.. and well.. not good at all.

ARGH! I want it to be busier than it is currently.. I hate making $800 a week. You heard it.. $800 ! Too many bad nights (going home with under $150).
