    Default Opinions Please... different idea....

So, I am getting bored with my musical selection and I am going to try a new set and need some opinions....

I learned to "Strip" to the classics... Frank Sinatra, Etta James, Jeff Healey etc.... sounds crazy I know, but in order for me to get my moves down, I needed a slower more sensual type of music and plus, my grandfather taught me to dance (in the traditional sense) to Frank Sinatra...

    So...

I was wondering, what do you all think of a dancer who might bring out Etta James "Stormy weather", or a couple of other oldies Ella Fitzgerald, etc..... is it too cheesey for the 20 somethings? Will I get eye rolls? Or.. have any of these older songs been remade?

    Thanks

    G

It's always good to branch out, try something new, experiment. And it's relatively painless. If you don't get a good vibe, discontinue and start again.

Every now and then a dancer picks some Sinatra, and I always make a point to tip well because 1) I dig Sinatra and 2) it's nice to see/hear something different. We patrons get tired of the same old same old sometimes too. If I was sitting in the back of the bar and heard some Fitzgerald, I'd have to get up and check out who's on stage.

You'll get some naysayers and some weird looks to be sure, but mainly if you're digging it and are confident about it, others will get into it too.

    My two cents.

Try Peggy Lee's "Fever". There are several more I know of, but I will have to post them in a while, my girlfriend deserves some serious attention right now, and I have been posting too long, lol...

Try Portishead "Scorn" (Glory Box remix)--NOT the song "Glory Box", which is great, but not up there with this one. This song IS slow, but powerful, and fantastic for the right dancer, with some superb vocals. It is a making love song for sure. Especially when she sings "I just wanna be a woman..."

Portishead is very dangerous to think about using in a stripclub, and a lot of DJs and dancers will freak out if you suggest it, since so much of their stuff is slow and moody. But there are some fantastic tracks by them if you aren't afraid to break the rules.

I say, fuck the rules--if the guys like what they see and stay for more, you can't go wrong...

There is a fantastic CD out called "The Rebirth of Cool, Vol.3", that has some of the most unique and sexy music I have heard. It is definitely not for everyone, but from the sounds of what you are talking about, it would be right up your alley. There are excellent remixes of Portishead (the "Revenge of the Number" remix is very hot) and Tricky on it, as well as some blues/jazz type tracks with just a touch of hip hop thrown in for good measure.

To quote from the inside jacket, "Nature may abhor a vacuum, but art loves it."

Don't get volume 4, it only has one good track. I have NO idea what volumes 1 or 2 are like (but I'd love to find out).

Also, you might want to try "Sometimes..." from Erika Badu's "Baduizm" CD. It sounds nothing at all like that "Tyrone" song; she sounds much more like Billie Holiday, actually, on this CD.

Some Miles Davis tracks might be good, but choose them with care, again most of them will be too slow and trippy, but I have used him with excellent results.

Portishead...sigh...love them, wish I could play them...

I listen to Nina Simone "I Put a Spell on You" album all the time..most of the songs are soooo sad, but I always wanted to dance to the title piece...Natacha Atlas does a cover of "Spell" too, I am looking to get my hands on it alone because i don't like her other stuff and don't want to buy the entire CD!

I once saw a woman walk on stage in a 'basic black' little slinky number with a cigarette holder and groove to Holly Cole's version of the old Cole Porter standard 'Get Out Of Town' ... wow that was class ... had every eye in the room ...

Oh, I love those classics. So does my 1 year old! Anyway, Tori Amos "Playboy Bunny"--I think that's what it's called. And Sade, "Jezebel".

And oh, I second that "Fever" song by Djoser. VERY sexy song, and just as sexy is Madonna's remake of it.

"Crazy" by Patsy Cline. Not the style of music I listen to. But what a great song.

Check out the soundtrack of "LA Confidential."
