    Default stripping & physical fitness

I work out 3-4 times a week: 30-45 minutes of cardio, then biceps, triceps, upper back, & sometimes abs. I am 120 lbs at 5'3" so I'm not too concerned with losing weight per se, more intested in staying healthy.

I was just wondering if any of you dancers lost weight or maintained a decent level of fitness just from stripping, or have you found you definitely need to keep hitting the gym to stay in shape? Granted there are lots of body types, and many variations of what people consider "in shape," but I'm just looking for random personal experience...

For me I found out I have to hit the gym to stay in shape. Just dancing will not keep me in shape. Althought I am sure everyone is diffrent. Some girls at work eat hambergers and never work out and they are super skinny. For me I have to work out, watch everything I eat and drink tons of water to keep in shape. I would keep going to the gym. Not only are you keeping in good shape for your job, but you are keeping your health in good shape as well.

Dancing was a great cardio workout for me when I first started in the biz..However my body quickly got use to it. I workout to maintain my body.

Hey Celeste, we have the same diminsions but I constantly am unhappy with my body. It might be because I had a baby 9 months ago, but I am really critical of myself and sometimes don't look in the mirrors at work because of it.

I did have about 10 pounds to lose before I started dancing, but it came off naturally.

If I don't maintain a healthy diet full of fruits veg. and meat I get very unhealthy quickly.

I work out and go for quality and enjoyment over quantity. I work out 4 days a week at the gym and one or two days I play outside on bike or tennis.

Strippings is a hella leg workout!!!!!!!!

Pole work does not tone me out as I didn't work all that often. The only part of me that really got benefit were my arms (I'm a climber and a spinner! lol!) However, if I worked a good few nights in one stretch, I would lose a few pounds because my appetite would go down dramatically (i.e. If it was hectic, I would spend the days sleeping and when I got up I wasn't hungry or I would take a little snack and then it wouldn't be long before I had to get my butt back into work).

normally i dont have to go to the gym or anything as dancing keeps me in shape, but Ive just left the club I was at so while Im not dancing I have joined a gym. It is so much more fun dancing than going to the gym!!! and its more effective I find with the way I dance.

I'm with Farrah on this-when I was 18-20, I could dance and that itself would keep me in shape. Now, I have to workout and dance.

If you're gonna work out, I reccomend doing a lot of cardio and pilates ^_^

Dancing's good for a little cardio maintenance for me, but spinning for fat burning and yoga for strength, flexibility, and peace of mind are pretty necessary for me now.

It definitely depends on what they do in their routine. Some people hardly have to do anything to stay in shape. For others , it's a different story. I doubt many people would dance frequently enough with intensity to satisfy a modicum of health requirements.
