    Default will i be ok?

??? first in my pic, would my look work? it's a couple years old but i look exactly the same but my hair's longer. also, how hard is it to get used to the shoes? i'm 5'1.5" i think around 113-115 lbs. my current bras are a 36 c (my fiance guessed quite well when he bought them for me) i'm small but i have long legs so i can look taller. would 4.5 inch heels be tall enough to start on? i have these cute silver boots but their a bit too tall for me to start on... lol. ummm also what exactly do you do to get work in a club? like to waitress? and even dancing do you call and meet with the manager first then audition or do amateur night? a combo? my fianceand i talked about me dancing again yesterday or even doing waitress work. we've figured out how i can work around school in the summer and the lie i'll tell my family. and my stage name will be anala- it's indian (from asia) for fiery (i'm a fire sign)

You have cute dimples too. Hypothetically, Id buy some dances from you assuming you have a nice personality to go with the looks.

Looks are secondary as even the most 'average' dancer can make great money in this business... the first priority for you is sales. How well can you communicate and sell ?

It is communication and sales skills that will REALLY help you out. Looks 'come into play' second.

When I say communication.. I don't just mean verbal - I'm talking non-verbal as well aka body language.

You might want to check out the Hustle Hut folder for tips on selling.

I don't love the hair in your picture. It doesn't look very touchable or "done". You said your hair was longer now though. I would think to your shoulders at least would look better. Could you possibly straighten it or have it thinned out a bit? Men like touchable hair and you don't want it frizzing out a lot.

With a thick heel the shoes aren't hard at all. Even when they are six inches high they are on a platform so its not that hard on your foot. You have to take your time and practise on them.

You get a job stripping or waitressing like you would get any other job. Make yourself look nice and stop into different clubs to see which is best for you. Getting a stripping job is easier than a waitressing job because clubs are always looking for dancers. You could call if you wanted and talk to a manager about an audition. If you have no experience they might ask you to dance for them or do ameatur night. Its not that complicated.

There are a lot of other threads answering these questions. Look around on Newbie board. they are all marked silly stuff like "Help first night", "Audition", etc.

motherdaisy- hair i've been trying to "tame" it for years...lol. and it is quite touchable in one way but not to run fingers through.... i refuse to get it chemical straightened though so i'll need to learn to flat iron it out or get excellent conditioner to maintain my curls but get rid of the frizziesand make it touchable. hey and as long as i can score some ganja beforehand i'll be fine...lol. shoes- i'm not a heels wearer the majority of the year so i'd rather start with a shorter heel and work my way up. i can kind of walk in the boots i have now i think they might by 6.5-7" heels but the have a thicker heel. i can do flat surfaces but not steps...

Your look would be pleasing as punch, I think! You have very shimmery glowing skin. I would suggest that you get your eyebrows waxed, just for a more professional and polished look. I'd wear brightly colored bold dresses and equally bold jewellry and accessories. Maybe some plum colored lipstick-smiles as pretty and genuine and yours are few and far between. Match it with blush but you don't need much more than that. Invest in a silicone-based anti humectant pomade. It will add some weight to yout hair and make your curls a little more like tight ringlets. Speaking of ganga, you remind me of Mary Jane from Half-Baked. Mebbe get some ideas from her look? Earthy is very swanky.

As for shoes, I dunno about the boots. They don't seem to match you for some reason. But 4.5 inches is high enough.

You are absoluetly beautiful, and I personally love your look. But I thought I'd just share a story of mine. I'm black, my hair is totally natural, I mostly wear it in twist without any extensions. Well for my first audition I knew twists wouldn't fly so I took them out and straightened my hair with a hot comb and I flipped it up so it was around my upper neck, it was really straight but not as straight as a relaxer could have made it. In the dressing room before my audition one of the other black girls took me aside privately and said in a very nice way that I was pretty but that my hair wasn't gonna fly and that I should get a relaxer as soon as possible and come back. She was right , I was only offered day shift. Well since I don't beleive in relaxers and will never put one in my hair again, I got a wig. Long, and silky just so I can fit in to typical, traditional ideals of beauty . Not only did I get a job in a snap but I'm sure I'm making more money because of it. Now I'm in the south were the customers are definealy in to long hair and looking as white as possible (if you're not at a predominately black club) It may be different where you are. Just thought I'd share. Good Luck!!

Anala, I know what your are saying...I know all about trying to "tame"our hair, perms are are a big no-no, it doesnt matter who does them.
Although, I agree with Klynn,(Im also in the south)if you work at an upscale gentlemen's club, a wig would be the way to go (I just added some extensions to my hair...D.I.Y. w/ bobbi pins)
All I think you are beautiful. If you need anything let me know, I just started dancing myself... but I made it thru the audition process (without liquid courage Im too young to drink) and have been having lots of fun working. Keep us Posted.

P.S....As far as shoes, clothes, auditioning, try some of the post I started, the girls know I was a nervous wreck before my audition...but I think I askes every question I could think of, so hopefully some of those posts can help you out.

thanks y'all. you're being so helpful actually i was thinking of getting my hair braided. i've been asking girls and women around me who does their braids trying to find the best deal but a braider who'll do a great job too. or te twists with the extentions. i like the look of the long braids and the different styles that can still be done with the micrsos. chemical straighteners- evil things in the past when i've had them done (only a few times in life) they couldn't stay in long enough to do anything to my hair and then after all the money, time, and work from the hairdresser, horrible weather screwed it up (gale force winds, buckets of rain, blizzards, scorching heat, humidity)... lol. so i quit that. there was one salon worker who when she trimmed my hair for me also blow dried it straight and bent the ends under but i haven't been to a salon for about 2 years or so now. hmmm i should go back. i live in the cleveland, ohio area and since i actually haven't been in a club yet i don't know the look for most of them. but my fiance got free passes to two clubs so he'll take me sometime. only when he wants to go we're alwaysd broke and i think that'd be rude to check them out without anything for the workers, right?

hey anala, you don't have go get your hair straightened or wear a wig if you don't want to.It's not about looking as white as possible, it's looking as good as possible.Micro braids are cute, also a elegant flat twist updo with the ends set on small rollers would be cute for you, you can put small glitter pins up in it. It can be natural,it just has to be "done" and glamourous looking. Also like Juliette said, you need to have your eyebrows waxed, it will make you look more finished I have a baby face like you and it makes a big difference in your look trust me.Check out some hair magazines for some natural, but done up styles to take to a stylist before you audition and add some tiny hair accessories just a few to your do.Having the right look can mean "when can you start" versus "we'll get back to you" hope that helps

Hey I'm 5'1" also! I think 4.5" heels are too short... for this reason... When you are on stage... And say your standing next to a girl who is tall (even taller in heels)... you'll make her look like a giant, and it will make you look like a midget...

Just go to the day spa and have a mini makeover day. You'll feel great. They can give you makeup, skincare, hair tips. A mani. and pedi. Facial, brow wax, massage. I go once a month. Just take care of yourself. Look like sex. But it is the charming personality. Or any personality. That will make that money. I see time after time beautiful girls with no confidance make less than an average girl. Most of all smile! Buy a pair of shoes you like. Walk around your home to get used to them. I started in 6 in. heels. Then switched to pumps. I will wear 6 in. when I dance with pole. Most gentlemen prefer heel to boot.

Can I explain what I was saying by "as white as possible" .

History lesson: Most african american hair is natually, varing degree's of kinky, the kind of thing you see in an afro. Relaxer's or perms came about when, especially following the Emacipation Proclamation, black women who where former slaves idealized there former master's wives as the ideal standard of beauty. This wasn't conscious but black women where trying to find an identity for themselves, they would put BURNING lye on their hair to chemically mimic european hair!

Perms are more sophisticated and so are people but we as a society are still conditioned to see straight hair as more beautiful than nappy hair. As much as you we say "done" , whether we realize it or not, we mean "close enough to a standard of beauty personified by the media, that is centrally based on White Anglo-Saxon aesthetics" Even braids with extensions mimic the need for our hair to be long and silky.

I'm not saying I'm above the way things are, you know I have to make money too, and I know I'm a hypocrite everytime I put that wig on. I'm just saying that's the way it is. And I sincerely hope there is some black girl with a short fro out there who is making tons of money, I just haven't seen it.

i'm aware of the history of haircare among african americans. growing up, girls used to get pissed at me because i have thick curly hair. it used to wave at the top and loop at the ends but i haven't worn it past my shoulders in years so i don't know if it still does. and i wore it long then. i only straighten my hair occasionally for a different look- change is good sometimes. for me hair done means healthy, i can care for it without too much outside help (my fiance detangles it for me sometimes), it's not dull or lifeless or frizzy. i don't equate that withit looking as much like pamela anderson's as possible. alicia keyes' hair works for me. and when i get my hair braided i mostly used the "textured" hair that feels like mine, only it actually detangles easier. if i didn't get that kind, i still had it curly somehow. i love my curls (most of the time), i just love not knowing what to do with them. i love knowing that nature gave me what a lot of females go to the salon for. and just because you don't know any strippers who wear natural hairstyles doesn't mean they don't exist.

No joke...I was dancing for this group of guys...going from guy to guy. I get to the last guy and he says that he doesn't want me to dance for him because I am too tall (5'5 without shoes)...well, with 6 1/2" platforms on, I am a little over 6'...so I took my shoes off and then gave him a dance...LOL...geesh.

Okay first of all, that talk of slaves idealizing their masters wives looks sickens me. Contrary to popular belief, the black slaves, for the most part did not give a damn about looking white, thats another lie thats been passed down for years that continues to poision us. The whole relaxer thing came about when blacks were desiring a more sophisticated look and more advanced products. After relaxer was applied, the average person wasn't going back to natural hair. Both blacks and whites used relaxers for the same reasons when the lye hits the hair, it makes that cuticle more flexable , shiner and softer even on straight hair.Did you know marilyn monroe and plenty of other celebrities relaxed their hair.Anyway after getting the relaxer done, their natural hair "seems" unmanagable and less healthy and thats how it began.I have a real problem with blacks always assuming that just because we want to change something about ourselves, we want to be white as if are whole lives are dedicated to be being somebody else. And one more thing, about the short afro thing, you probably wont see it because a lot of people who are afraid to be themseves. Now I'm not saying that your hair can like anything and expect to make a whole lot of money, because you gotta look like a stripper regardless of hair type and if you don't you need to make appropiate changes, but a lot of natural styles, can be done provided you come right with presentation overall. A relaxer, wig ect, is fine depending on how you rock it,so is natural hair, but if you don't look like a stripper, that's were the problems will come regarding getting hired.Lastly."if you feel the need to live life by"white starndards" I feel sorry for you.

    LMFAO, I love it, A.n.a.l.a!

As for me, I think you'll do great. I like your look. You don't have to fit any "mold", just be yourself. Don't try to be anyone else. And, there's definitely no need to try and be "as white as possible". The whole male race does not prefer the white blonde bombshell stripper. Men also like variety.

What you look like off the job is your business, but when you go in for an audition, you have to look just like I said "a stripper".It's the difference between a playboy playmate and the average women on the street. They make their money by looking the part. Now on the other hand, not all clubs require you to strip on stageat the audition, but if you don't come in the club looking sexy like a money maker it may be hard for you to get a job.Since you're not in the business yet, and never been to a club, chances are you don't have a trained eye yet to spot a top notch dancer. And yes a lot of stippers do look pretty plain outside the job.

ok that may be true but i also i need to make it to the location of the club. which means wearing something supersexy or whatever on public transportation while i do my inquiries about the clubs and whatnot would not be good idea. (no, i do not drive- i do plan on getting taxis though to and from work in a club, especially late.) couldn't i just wear a nice pair of pants or cute skirt and a flirty fitted top, or a cute dress? do i have to show everything walking for the first time?

    Brownsugar,

I think you have a problem about anyone saying that there race or anything to do with there race is a factor in their life. There shouldn't be a problem if a black woman wants to keep her hair natural and there shouldn't be a problem if she wants to straighten it. But those things that shouldn't be aren't necessarily so. Even when you say that a woman has to go in looking like a stripper, you have a particular idea of what a stripper looks like. The same sort of ideas or ideals go along with beauty standards. A woman's appeal is what is going to make her money as stripper, if she is dancing for a particular crowd of men who like a particular type of woman, then the options on how she can look to make money is limited. Believe me I would love to see more women with a more alternative look to make money, but let's face it do you really think that the amount of women with alternative looks are ever going to out-number the very ideal blodes and brunettes (mostly white women) that have set a standard in not only strip clubs but in America?
