    Default FACIALS

Who here gets facials as a part of their skincare regimine? I have long been suspicous that they useless (especially if you already use good skincare products), but I often hear of people getting them religiously.

And if so, what kind of facial/facialist do you recommend? Thanks!

I used to think they were useless too but when my dermatologist recommended them as an addtion to treatment of acne I changed my mind. I now get monthly facials from a medical esthetician in a doctor's office and my skin is totally clear for the first time since I was 13. A lot of my breakouts were caused by bad/wrong skin care, not by genetics--I used to think this was a lie but now I am converted. Example one: sunscreen clogs my pores like nothing else. I stopped totally and bingo. Spa facials are relaxing and will give you a glow (if you get a good result) but don't do much for the general integrity and health of your complexion, but they are ridiculously overpriced for what you get. I suggest calling around to all the plastic surgeons in your area and asking if they have a "medical spa." This is more and more common, as doctors realize people will trust their offices more than the mall for things like microdermabrasion, peels (and especially lasers which can *ruin your life* in the hands of an untrained technician. I see people in the waiting room of my doctor's office who have had laser disasters and it is heartbreaking.) Good luck and don't be afraid to "interview" your estheticians just like you would anyone else in charge of something precious, like a nanny or a stockbroker. It's your skin!

I think most of the superficial stuff done by estheticains helps, but its not a cure all. There are things that dermatologists and p.s. do that gey better long term results, like dermabrasion, photo facials and deep peels. Its fine to get facials done they feel really good and do make your skin look nice for a few days but they dont do much in lasting results.I guess it just depends on what goals you have in mind for your skin and what results you are expecting.

You should get facial regularly as well as cleaning your skin every morning when you wake up and at nightr as well as using moisturizer and eye cream all the time. you have to start good hygein in your 20's.
get a facial every 4-6 weeks and sdo facials at home every week by steam cleaning your face first. Then use a scub and then rinse off then put on the mask or dermapolish is the new stuff on the market.
don't get products from the pharmacy unless its a rich persons pharmacy. over the counter products suck
go to sephora and get some good stuff.

Be careful with steaming: on fair or sensitive skin you can break capillaries - that's really not pretty.

The less I do to my skin, the better it looks. I use Dr. Bronner's baby soap (diluted) for all facial cleansing. I follow with Keihl's moisturizers. I have minimally visible pores, no blackheads, I have nice even skin and hardly a break out - even before my period. Clinique, MAC and Estee Lauder wreck my skin as do the manipulations of estheticians (I went to some good places in Seattle, sooo...). I personally would suggest against facials except as part of a "relaxation day" at a spa.

Expensive isn't always better... pure might be what a person wants to look for (Burt's Bees, Kiss My Face, Keihl's.. etc.). Different things work for different people so give any new product 2 weeks before tossing it.

    Good luck.

I've got them for years. Micro dermabrasion with a mask helps to make new cells grow, thin out fine lines, smooth surface. I also like the alphatherapy collagen treatment. It hydrates, gives skin a beautiful glow, and stimulates circullation and cell growth. Love them. If I get a regular facial it's the Vitality. It's anti-aging and hydrating. I go to a day spa to have it done.

I would go for a massage over a facial.

Proper skin care, plenty of water and sleep, and a couple visits to the dermatologist every year are way more beneficial than an overpriced facial.
