Default Who has a pole at home?

I have been "retired" for a few years, but I want to get a pole for my apartment - I miss it.

I was just wondering who has experience with the various products out there (lil mynx, pole danzer, platinum stages, anything else).

Anybody have a pole? Where did you get it? How do you like it? Can you *really* swing and hang on it?

Anyone have input? ??? Thanks in advance.

I dont but I want one..........I hear that you can just go to a resturaunt supply store tho and just order the brass railing that they have in alot of resturaunts (like fridays or ruby tuesdays or whatever) and just have that installed. My old boss was going to put one in my apartment and he said all together it would probably run me about 170$ or so. Not bad. Or maybe try home depot ..see what they have. My feelings on platinum stages are...if its not attached to the floor AND the ceiling, how safe can it really be????

I don't have a pole at home, but I wish I did. I would like to learn pole tricks (I've been dancing for 2 years and I still can't do any! :o), but I'm too embarrassed to try them at the club with other people watching. I'd rather make a fool of myself in the privacy of my own home.

I live in an apartment, so I can't attach a pole to the ceiling or the floor. It would do too much damage, and I don't have much extra room anyways.

You can buy a pole and stage over the Internet, but they're pricey (I think they're around $300-400 including shipping) and I was wondering the same thing: if it's not attached to the ceiling or the floor, how sturdy can it be? You can also buy the supplies you need at Home Depot and install the pole yourself. I'm not sure what you all need, but if you do a search on here, I'm sure it's been covered already.

I have a pole in my place. It's installed into the ceiling, but not the floor. I wouldn't waste my money on the poles they sell online. Go to Loews or Home Depot and buy a brass pole or polished aluminum pole, get some flanges, and have a handyman install it. My pole cost me less than $100. If you are not good with measurements, then make sure you have someone measure your place floor to ceiling (if you don't want to bolt into the floor, then get a piece of plywood, cover with carpet and then measure the pole from that to ceiling...make sure it's a snug fit). It's really not that hard...and so much cheaper.

    Good luck and happy swinging!

    Thanks!!

    Great idea.

But, with the pole only being bolted into the ceiling (and I assume a piece of plywood at the bottom), can you really swing and climb on it? Would you be able to hang upside down and not worry about some horrific accident? That is my main concern (next to avoiding damage to my apartment that would lose me my security deposit!)!

I recently bought a pole from PlatinumStages, they're expensive but great! I didn't want the pole stuck anywhere, just in case I want to move it. Also my landlord wouldn't like a pole drilled in... It has wheels so it's really easy (they lock in place of course). It looks alot nicer than a lil minx. (I tried one of those at a convention, they work great too btw) I use mine as a table as well, lol.

Yes, it works fine. That's why you need to have a snug fit. Even if you drilled the pole into the ceiling, you can always spackle it up and then spot paint it if you match the paint. Of course, bolting the pole into the ceiling, you need to make sure that it's bolted into a stud (the beam, not the man...LOL)...otherwise, you will find yourself spinning on the pole on minute and then finishing the move against the opposite wall.

Again, make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing measure the height and then install the pole. If you get the plywood (thick enough to bolt the pole into the board), cover it with some carpet or tile (so you don't get splinters) and then cover the bottom of it with no-slip fabric (like the stuff you put under your rug for hardwood floors), it'll stay. It's basically how they do the "removable poles" for lil mynx...only about $300 cheaper.

**edited to add the ceiling stud comment...**

re: Platinum Stage - Is it really sturdy? Is the pole tall enough, it sounds kinda short?

re: permanent pole - What size pole did you go for (diameter)? 2"?

    Thanks for all the input!!

Yes, you can do the craziest $hiet on that thing, and it doesn't budge! I love this thing, I think it was a great investment.

I'd love one, but I live in a warehouse space with 14 foot ceilings and don't have carpet to get a Lil' Minx. Can't bolt it IN the ceiling since it's solid concrete. Any ideas?

LOL, My girlfriend and I bought one for our place, both her and I love it! some weekends, she has her friends (girl) come over and I just love to watch as they practice, and after is said and done, we remove the pole and use ours as a coffee table to!

By the way, you can swing on it, climb the pole, it is very strong, and sturdy.

Not me, actually never thought about it at all until now but I don't know that I would bother personally, I just don't use the pole as much as I have seen it used, but wow there are some girls that are spectacular on the poles, I guess we all have our own tecniques for performing and/or generating revenue, and mine is not so much the poles!?

And maybe more than likely the girls who are so spectacular on the poles may be the girls who have them in the house, because the things I have seen done on poles have no doubt had lots of hard work put into them!?

I've answered this question a lot, so I apologize if it sounds repetitive to some. I have a pole in my apartment. I bought it from platinum stages (the cheapest place to buy real poles, unless you just go the home depot route). They were very fast, efficient, and friendly to deal with. It was a little complicated installing it in my apartment because the pole was a few inches shorter than my ceiling is, plus my floor is made out of concrete. I have some pictures up in the gallery of how the pole looks attached to my ceiling and floor. I did choose to drill holes but the pole is sturdier than any one I've ever seen used at a club. I love having it around, it really motivates you to practice frequently.

I would love to see the pictures - but the gallery is down.
