    Default Gradual sunless tanner

Has anyone tried this stuff? I think Neutrogena makes it. It's basically just lotion with a little sunless tanner in it that you use every day to slowly build up your tan. I was thinking it would be a good way of maintaining it when used in conjunction with other sunless tanners.

I haven't tried it but I do have an after tan extender with DHA. I'm totally mystified tho because I purchased it (per the spray tan lady's recommendation) when I got the airbrush tan but now that I'm doing Mystic the Mystic people say to not use aloe vera gel or it will cause streaks. (The first ingredient in this lotion is aloe)

    I don't get it?????????

I just bought the Neutrogena Build-A-Tan today ($9.99 @ CVS. Probably cheaper @ Walmart). I've been using their foam tanner forever. I'll let you know how it works to maintain my current bronze...

I like the Coppertone foam tanner but have never liked Neutrogena's self-tanners. I'll be waiting to hear how the build-a-tan works for you.

The coppertone oil-free tanner (the cheap one in a brown bottle) works very gradually, is tinted so you can see where you've put it, and is a nice golden color- I like it.

Okay...I don't like it at all...Gradual, my ass. I used it the way I've always used other self tanners. I DO NOT like the results. Big waste of money. It is very dark. It is a nice bronze color, but it is too dark to build a gradual tan. I usually use medium self tanner, and I am much darker today after using the Build-A-Tan.

Just to be sure I didn't put on too much or made a mistake, I put some on my hubby's stomach. He is not overly tan, so I figured it would be a good experiment. Well, I just put some on my gloved hand, and put a hand print on him. Two hours later, he has a very dark hand print!!!

Save your money, girls. This stuff isn't gradual. Put it on and you are going to be dark. Hope I've helped!

I'm really pale naturally (and currently). I don't want to get too tan, just a nice healthy-looking golden glow. Will the Coppertone one work okay on my fair skin or is it going to make me look super tanned? Or can I control it by how often I use the tanner? Is there a difference between the oil-free one and the foam one?

Well ,I'm about as fair as they come (I matched my albino friend in high school- woohoo!), and I find the Coppertone oil-free to be very gradual (and I use the dark one), but obviously ferrari had a different experience, so I guess it depends on the person...

One thing is to not use too much- seems obvious, but if you ONLY use enough so that you can get it on your skin and rub/blend for about 10-20 seconds before it starts to dry, then it shouldn't get too dark and it won't streak.

You can also mix any tanner with moisturizer to make it lighter...but I don't reccomend that as it's kind of hit and miss until you get a specific formula down.

    oh, whoops
I have a bad habit of not (re) reading all the posts in a thread.

I've never tried build-a-tan, but I don't like Neutrogena in general for sunless tanners...too orange on pale skin.

I tried a new airbrush tan in an airosol bottle. You spray it on just like it were hairspray or something. Works wonderfully! Doesn't streak because you don't touch it. Isn't orange at all. You are supposed to wait 8 hours before showering, exercising, or anything that will cause you to sweat alot. After that, it is on for 7-10 days. I love it and everyone that I have shown it to has loved it. So easy and you look great afterward. And, one can will do your body 3 times. I will be adding to my website.

Got the aerosol bottle self-tanner too at my local beauty store. It's called "Body Drench" (www.aiibeauty.com).

I am EXTREMELY fair skinned naturally, and the results were very realistic, medium-brown tan on me. It dries quickly and does take some practice to master the application, but overall I like it better than any other self-tanning product I've tried.

Apparently I'm a tanning junkie! LOL

Scarlett, I'm going to back you up on the Coppertone Oil-Free. After my ordeal with the Neutrogena Build-A-Tan, I decided to go for the one you use!!! Works great and great price!!! Thanks, scarlett!

Now, I'm curious about these aerosol ones I'm reading about! Gonna have to check that out, too...Let's see how many Ferrari can try in a month...LOL

Neutrogena is a very good product in my experience, regarding self tanners, but I have an even better suggestion. Recently, while purusing the aisles of my local Beauty Store, I saw a product called SUN. I asked the sales lady about it and she raved on an on.

Now, Sun comes in Light, Medium, Dark and for me (I'm quite fair and never tan), I chose Medium. The results are FANTASTIC and they really last and last. I was amazed because after years of sunless tanning this is truly a product that stands out. You won't find it in your drugstore or Walmart or Target, but most beauty supply stores have it.

    Good Luck!

PS: You won't be orange with Sun either - a problem I still think many drug store varieties still plague us with, even now.

I have extremely pale skin and I tried Coppertone Endless Summer foam in light/medium. The color was ok, but the tan came out really splotchy and unnatural-looking. Maybe I just didn't blend well enough, but I tried to be SO careful when I put it on. Now I'm afraid to try again.

the neutrogena sounds good and i like this brand in general. but i didn't know about the body drench. this has been one of my favorite lines for sunless tanning. i always got really good results when using them, plus i think they're great for the skin. i'll have to look into both of these. thanks for sharing the info.

I got the Neutrogena Build-A-Tan and I've been using it for the last four or five days. In my experience it's VERY subtle. I didn't even think it was working until I deliberately put it on just one spot on my belly, to see if I could see a difference. Two hours later there was definitely a slightly darker circle, but still, it was subtle. I don't know why my experience with it has been so different than Ferarri's. I'm coming from pretty fair skin, and I've never used any sort of self-tanning product before. Maybe it interacts with your skin differently if you already have another tanning product on?

Anyway, so far I recommend it but since the change is happening so slow I'm not sure if it's going to end up looking orange. I don't plan to go too dark with it, I just wanted a little boost to my color.

I have used Mystic Tan and it seems to wear off my face really quick. I probably have too much oil going on.

Banana Boat works the best for me. A nice medium-dark tone, no "fake tan smell" and it is tinted. It dries really quick and it's cheap.

I went to the Walgreens in SF, CA when I was visiting last weekend. It was a small store in Bernal Heights and they didn't have it. I bought the new Loreal bronzer.

It has that "smell" and it takes forever to dry!!! I woudn't recommend it to fairer skin people, (I am light olive). The scent isn't as strong after the hour, but when I first applied, boy was it strong

That new Neutrogena product sounds interesting. I haven't really liked their self tanners. The tinted one streaks too much and the foam has, again, that "smell". I used to use the cream. It' OK, but it made me a little orangey. Banana Boat is much more brown

    Cheers,

The airbrush tan in the airosol can that I have used is called Bronze Velvet. It works great. Leaves your skin super soft with no tan smell. Dries quickly too! Lasts 7-10 days depending on your body and shower habits. You can even use it on your face! I have used it on several girls at work and they love it! One can will do your body 2-3 times. I will be adding it to the website today so you girls can check it out. You can view more info about it at http://www.enhanceme.com/products_bronze.htm
