    Default My friend "the Stripper"

It seems like everyone is excited just to know a stripper. Like knowng a celebrity or something. The people I have been best friends with since elementary now always introduce me as the friend _______....shes a stipper. Or they work it in to the conversation some how.

I only strip a few days a week and have a lot of other stuff going on in my life as well, but as soon as a friend learns I strip they just can't get over it and it seems like they have to tell Everyone!! I never even talk about my job but some how it defines me!

I cringe every time my best girl friends do this. The other night I went on a double date with my best friend of many years, her boyfriend and some guy I had never met. Of course ten minutes in Emily had to through in that I strip. Its so annoying to me!!

Does anyone else feel that even their closest friends can't get over the whole "stripper" thing?

I hate to tell people not to talk about it cause its not embarrassing per say, they just don't understand the stigma that goes along with it. Plus it intimidates the hell out of guys and I am lonely enough as it is!

Yeah it sucks when you're introduced as "my stripper friend so and so" My closest friends know better than to do that now. after a while the novelty wears off.

Or what about when you go to a party or soething with people you kinda-sorta know and they keep asking about work? Annoying.

Thats so messed up. I would talk to them about it. I am sure if you are really close friends you can tell them not to do that.
Its like this.... if you had a friend who worked in mcdonalds, yu wouldnt introduce her to your friends and say, "Hey guys, this is Tammy...the burger flipper" right? So just tell them nicely and I am sure they will understand.

yeah and they might need firm reminders about how you feel, I mean it should be up to you to decide how much and when to reveal about yourself and to whom.

I say firm reminders because they're excited probably. Are you the only stripper they hang out with?

    hahahah yeah fully!!!

its not like you introduce your other friends as " this is bob hes an electition" lol

but forsome reason people are attracted to the idea of having frineds who are dancers. lol

it can get annoying when people dont know your name, but know you as "that stripper chick" when ever you go out etc. lol

my little sister does that ALL THE TIME! she told me on the phone the other day that all her co-workers want to meet me because she told them I am a stripper and they dont belive her (shes a little heavy). when I was living with her we met a new neighbor and she told him right away, at least she did the "electriction" thing though, she said she was a pizza driver and our otherfriend sold cinnabons oh and she's a stripper. grrrrr.... I think part of it is her living vicariously through me, her being concerned about her weight, and I am this stripper that guys pay to hang out with.

My best friend liked to make sure everyone knew I was a stripper when I first started dancing. We would go shopping and she would always make comments about how I can buy this and that because I was a stripper. It was sooo embarassing! The sales people just looked at her like she was crazy. They didn't care how I made a living. They just wanted me to buy buy buy. I talked her into dancing just so she would shut up about it!

Its such a pity that so many of us are identified by our occupations. We know the "I am not my job" but the first question we ask people is "what do you do for a living?"

When I couldn't decide my major in college, I got so tired of people asking what I was majoring in I made something up. It sounded so scientific and academic and you'd be surprised how many people would just nod and say "oh".

I think I was majoring in Sesquitentology.

Of course, you could say you worked taking off insulation in a wire and cable factory.

If I'm asked, I'm usually just straight up about it. However, if I am feeling defensive for whatever reason, I just say, "Well, you know, I was a Theatre Major in college, so I am really glad that I get to do a lot of stage work." When they ask where, I just say, "At whatever Theatre needs bodies...haahaahaa"

That usually puts an end to things...or at least takes the conversation to another topic.

Several years ago I had a longtime friend ( now ex friend- she slept with a boyfriend of mine , also ex now ofcourse)
Anyway she once told me that she had hoped for "more for me" than being a stripper.
The kicker is now she has several kids from 2 differnt marriages ~ she left husband #1( who she had a kid with) for my ex, who she had 3 more kids with and they live barely a step up from trailer trash today and I see him out with other women all the time ~ It's totaly Jerry Springer :o

Funny part is she thinks I'm doing God knows what and with God knows whom , and in reality I have a nice chunk of change in the bank and I spend my days working on my garden, doing yoga and being Suzy Homemaker for my CEO boyfriend at our beachhouse And she's got 4 screaming kids under 8 and a cheating husband with barely two pennies to rub together.

Lucky for me, alot of the folks that I hang out with work in the industry at a few of the clubs in my city. This way, when I meet new people thru them, it's not a big deal, cause they're around strippers all the time.

It's more like, "This is my friend ________ from Hustler...."

I think this happens in all walks of life not yours. But I think because of some of the preconcieved notions that society has about strippers, you guys are more self conascious about having that come up. Also I am sure the second that comes out, slimy dudes hit on you 3x as much too, which probably gets on your nerves.

I gotta disagree with you ATL I don't think it happens in all walks of life, only the novel aspects. People don't typically introduce someone's profession right off the bat unless it is somehow exciting and mysterious to them (or all I should say). But you're totally right about slimey guys.

It makes me mad too, especially because a lot of people just cannot believe that a guy would spend a few hundred bucks an hour for dancing and conversation so you MUST be a hooker! An ex-roomate of mine actually went around telling people this! ng:

Most of us knew we'd be pariahs to a certain degree for dancing, but it still hurts sometimes, doesn't it?

True... not everyone says this is bob the janitor. And maybe it's the same novelty with my profession and the party citrlces and clubs I hang out with. But look closer at general introductions and I think that you will find that This si Bob he's in sales for _____, or this is jack he's a vetrinarian etec are very common. I get introduced as "the attorney' more often than not. I think people do this to make their friends, and by extension themselves, seem more exciting/mysterious/sophistacted/cool take your pick. Like it or not, yours is an exotic/exciting and certainly conversation starting profession.

oh my god i hear you.

i am so sick of former friends who would talk to me about lots of things suddenly have their heads gummed up and could only talk about stripping. or at least have to find some way to mention it every time i see them. and EVERYONE has a friend writing a paper about this 'fascinating' industry.

I think introducing people along with their professions is something that happens among certain groups of people--for example, parties of professionals. In that setting, it gives two people meeting for the first time something to talk about. However, I haven't noticed it outside of groups of people with high-powered jobs. Then again, I'm a college student, so maybe I wouldn't...

All of my friends keep introducing me to people as "my friend Kat the bellydancer" which is weird, because many people think that bellydancing IS a form of striptease, and I would rather NOT be introduced with any kind of controversial title....

Last night, the guy that my friend introduced me to as a bellydancer said, oh, you mean you work in a tit flop?!?!" Yuck!!!!!
