    Default Downloading Free Music

What internet sites are best to download music off of?

I tried to install Kazzaa and couldn't figure out how to get the music saved plus it installed all these weird peer to peer programs and I have tons of ads popping up every second!

I went through this forum and wrote down all the songs I want to download and I have a burner. But no where to find the music ??? :'(

Try Kazaalite if you can still find it, and/or limewire.

Shareaza. Read the HelpFile if you don't know how to use a program, not everything in life is totally user friendly.

anybody know if WinMX has spyware or not? just curious after that whole thing with Kazaa

Kazaalite is spyware free and works fairly well (although I've been having a lot of problems getting newer songs--too many fake files)

Here's a resource for two programs I've had great luck with, Direct Connect and Bit Torrent:

No spyware, and Bit Torrent has been a great resource for entire CDs. Both are a little more complicated than Kazaa but nothing most people can't handle. Anyone is welcome to e-mail me for help/info to the best of my ability.

And for anyone with moral qualms about file sharing, I do purchase A LOT of CDs after "testing" them for free.

    Hi Everyone!

Sorry to sound stupid - but what is SPYWARE?
Spyware is basically cookies that are put into your computer by some sites that you visit (or from popups). With these "cookies" they can track your internet activity.

Adaware is something that you can use to combat spyware. I've used it since it first came out, and it's a great program. You can download it here: . It's free.

About Kazaa and Kazaalite... Kazaalite is definitely a bit better than the original, in regards to spyware, but I definitely don't recommend either one. I used it for awhile, and found too many fake files and virus attempts.

I do recommend Limewire, WinMX, and IRC. You'll run into a lot less fake files and viruses. I use all three.

As with any music downloading, always make sure that you have a good antivirus, and make sure you constantly update it, as countless viruses are created daily, and can slip by if you're not protected. Norton's is the best, in my opinion. It's caught numerous attempts while I was downloading, and it cleans the file so that no virus gets through. A firewall is also a good idea. I have Norton's personal firewall.

Peerguardian is another great protection method. It basically protects you while "illegally" downloading music. I use that in the background. You can download that here:

    Good Luck!

I haven't used a file sharing application in about nine months. That RIAA lawsuit crap scared me out of it so I uninstalled and deleted WinMX from my compy.

Nonetheless, check out zeropaid.com. It gives you comparisons of different file sharing programs and has them sorted depending on which operating system that you have.

I use Appollon for single songs (this downloads from several servers) and for full albums I prefer bittorrent sites. I very use Appollon.

ok, ready for a wrench in the works? If you are really in the mood to overload your hard drive just grab yourself a newsgroup to binary program (newsbot, news rover, etc.). Getting into the newsgroups you can literally pull THOUSANDS of songs per week. And you will be getting the whole cd at good quality. Most broadband connections already have newsgroup feeds. if you want more info, just shoot me a mail.

Ok I have been using WinMX and it is a major pain in the butt!

The songs fail like 90% of the time. I haven't gotten some songs after hours of use.

I miss the Napster I used back in High School

Anyone have any tips for how to get music more effeciently.

OK...this is a brave new world for me. i downloaded a newsgroup to binary program (freeware), but I have no idea what to do with it.

Please help...? (lol - cause with Kazaa, Direct Connect, Soulseek and Bit Torrent I've only managed to fill 80gig of hard drive, so obviously i need more content.)

only 80 gig??? Let me throw a few drives at you. I've got 410 sitting here unchecked. I never add a song unless it's been checked for errors (pops, clicks, etc.) then the ID3 tags are repaired and finally burned to the cd library.

I use mIRC. It's a great chat program that allows filesharing. I'm suprised more ppl dont use it for downloads.

lol Az.. Many people don't use it mostly because it's so hard to figure out when you first get on there. You don't just hit a button and begin your downloads.. lol

I remember when I first started with mIRC. I was totally lost. But, I'm the type of person who doesn't give up until I figure something out. haha

I'd say though, mIRC is definitely the way to go. You never get fake files, and it's always great quality music/movies.

Yeah it takes sometime to get used to. One thing though I think it takes a little bit of trust when u download from other ppl on mIRC. There are alot of shady 'hacker' type ppl who try to exploit other users. I still think its the safest p2p for filesharing. It sneaks under the radar because it's thought of as a chat program not a filesharing program. I stay away from the large servers like DALnet, EFnet, Quakenet, and Undernet. Smaller servers are safer. You know of any decent servers Rhi ?

I use TMD Moviez and TMD Music, hon.. Whenever I can, I try to connect on IRC.Criten.net. They're a great bunch there, and after using them for over a year, I can say it's pretty trustworthy. They seem to catch the hackers very easily and ban them from the channels without a second thought. I highly recommend them.

I also have an FServ on there (I use Invision), and I serve whenever I can. What's good about it though, is when you've served 5 full 16-hour days (They track it), you get access to Distro, which is all the newest stuff. They want the most dedicated servers to have it all first. I had Distro for awhile, but lost it because I just can't stay the channel all day.. lol

Here's a link to a site that is run by one of the channel mods.

If I'm on the channels, I'm there as "Witchy" (or "TMD-Witchy, when I'm serving)
