Default Seizures in the strip club...

First it was completely dead in my club. Like pin drop dead. If I hadn't managed to nab the only customer that had money all night I wouldn't have made anything (as it was, I did pretty good). So, I'm back in a room with this customer and I hear the DJ saying for the waitress to bring orange juice right NOW. It sounded different then his normal banter with the waitresses, but I didn't think anything of it.

Five minutes later I'm out of the room and in the dressing room and someone comes back and says that a female customer started having seizures in the DJ booth. One of the customers is an EMT, and there's an ambulance on the way. By the time I make it out there (I'm slow) they're strapping her on this stretcher thing.

Now, the EMT's that came are a pretty thick strong-looking woman and a scrawny little guy. The woman takes the head end of the stretcher and the little guy takes the feet. He's dragging along behind just barely keeping his end of the stretcher off the ground. They make it halfway across the club, and when they get to the exact center, between the two stages so no one can get around them, she starts seizing again. They put her down as she falls off the stretcher (woops) and it just went downhill from there. I had my customer move the chairs from around her, and the EMT's decided to try to restrain her.

I'm not an EMT, but I've worked with epileptic kids, and I know you don't restrain them. You try to pad their heads. So we have like forty minutes of these EMT's trying to restrain her while she's having pretty big seizures. Finally the owner called 911 again and they sent some firemen to help the EMT's get her tied down and carry her out.

As the door closes behind them, the DJ says....

    ...wait for it...

"Damn I hate when these girls break a nail"

Fortunately the owner is awesome and he did free drinks and two for one lapdances for fifteen minutes and the place came back to life (well, as much back to life as it could with five customers).

Has anyone else seen something like this happen? Any customers have seizures or heart attacks or anything during a lap dance? I'm so afraid that someone's going to have a seizure while I'm dancing for them now...

We have a girl at work like that. She's had quite a few at work, but hers are triggered by the white lights and auto flash lights onstage. We all know this so we don't use those lights when she's at work because its triggered them several times. Customers have also mentioned it before so we don't use them very much at all any more. Its hard to watch someone go through it, but hers go so bad for awhile that nobody reacted really excitedly because we all know the bouncer is gonna get her, the managers gonna put one of those things in her mouth and they put a fan on her and a towel over her face and eyes for ten minutes. And, they call her boyfriend to come get her. It is disturbing sometimes though for new girls because they always freak out.

Yeah, very quick summary. I was in a club getting a dance when a DJ was having a seizure. Music went haywire as she clutched her counter and shook out. I've had a little training, so I rushed to the booth. Club security snarled at me to stay out. I asked if anyone was trained or had been called, and they told me brusquely that they were taking care of it. I hung around for a bit just in case they relented, but they didn't.

I went to the bar with the dancer and bought us something to drink, paid her for the dance, which she tried to decline, and chatted a bit, mostly about her little boy. EMT's and a cop came and left, and then the female manager started DJ'ing. The manager was not popular with her dancers, it seemed. I go to clubs to have fun, and no one was having fun anymore, so I wished my dancer well and left.

A female customer stood up and started seizing. She fell and hit her head. Cracked it. The bouncer thought her boyfriend pushed her. Thay got into it. Finally everyonr figured out what was wrong and called 911. They wheeled her out and that was that.I think that's scary. There's a girl who used to have them. But, I think she would just take xanax and drink. That's probably what triggered her's.

Never seen one in a strip club, but it happened right next to me at a Bruce Springsteen concert at the Roxy nightclub in 1988.

During Bruce's first break, I'm talking with a friend when I get a tap on my shoulder. Dude sitting at the table next to me looks at me as if he wants to say something. I sense something bad coming, duck, and the dude coughs up blood all over the table and chairs. He finally sputters, "I'm sick." I say, "Tell me about it", and go off to get the manager. He calls the paramedics, they stretcher him out of there, and the rest of the concert goes off without a hitch. Freaky stuff.

I've had two co-workers have seizures at work in the dressing room. I'd never had any experience with epilepsy before, and I'm so greatful that there was someone around who knew what to do. It is unnerving to witness!

About 2 years ago one of the dancers had a heart attack on stage during her 2nd song (she was completely naked) Actually, she went into cardiac arrest but we didn't know it at the time. Hell, we didn't know what the fuck was wrong. It was her 23rd birthday, her last stage set of the night she was gonna go out for drinks with friends later.

One of the most surreal moments I've experienced was being on that stage with another friend trying to get her to talk to us, tell us what was wrong. The entire audience watched us like it was some macabre 3 ring circus. Nobody did shit.

Finally we realize, hey she's not drunk, pilled etc. This girl is not breathing 911 is called Some customer claims to be an EMT, 911 asks if anybody is performing CPR, no, nobody is, EMT guy says 'maybe we should wait for the paramedics' I said "Fuck that she needs air NOW" She was literally dying right in front of us. She was grey (as best we could tell under shitty lightiing) her eyes got glassy and fixed, so having no freakin' training I start blowing air into her, my friend did chest compressions, we did that till the ambulance arrived.

She was in a coma for almost a month. In fact, her family was planning on pulling the plug especially since the doctors were saying how she was not responding to stimuli, no brain activity etc. Then she woke up one day. About 1/2 a week before her family was going to disconnect life support.

She's a totally different girl now. Her brain went without oxygen for too long. But I guess if we didn't take it upon ourselves to try the cpr she wouldn't be here at all. And that's a weird feeling too, like maybe she would have rather died than to live the rest of her life, well...disabled. Her memory was shot for the longest, she didn't even remember being a stripper, and she would talk so fast and rush around and forget what you had just told her 5 minutes before and behave very child like. The last time I saw her was about a year ago. She lives with her mom now and will never work as a stripper again.

Oh yeah, it turned out she had a pre-existing heart condition and was taking either Stackers or Metabolife.

I can say that has definately been the most traumatizing event I've ever experienced at work.

Wow.....Saph, you should definitely be proud of what you did, and not at all guilty about it. With you help, she had a chance at a normal life--without you, she most certainly would have died.

    I'm proud of you!

well...i''m a lifeguard in the summers...and i've seen my fair share of events there. I used to work in a rec center for the city, and there were tons of employees. tons of things going on there - indoor and out door hockey rinks, basketball courts, indoor track, rock climbing, volleyball - you name it they had it. anyways the lifeguards there are the ONLY employees who are trained - even just for first aid. (really stupid i think) So anyways I got a lot of baywatch moments where if I'm in the break room and an accident somewhere on the campus of this facility breaks out, there i go running in bathing suit and flip flops. It's really scary when they're telling you to bring the AED over the radio, or that there are two people down and not breathing on the hockey rink, we do what we can til EMS comes and takes over. We had an accident or two every tuesday last summer - it was like clockwork.

Heh heh, not a laughing matter, but one of my ex's is an emt , he's got some nice arms...

sc wise - i haven't seen anything worse than a sprained ankle, altho once i had to force a drunk guy's mouth open because he was puking and choking on it because he was refusing to open his mouth.

SCGirl, well I guess if anything positive came out of it we organized a CPR training class at the club during closed hours. Like 6 or 7 or us girls participated. Heehee we had the dummies on stage. I'm sure that was one hell of a happy EMT!

There's no way I could take credit. I was just racking my brain trying to recall what all those CPR signs you ssee by pools say. You know, head back, airway clear, blow. I totally forgot about compressions luckily my friend didn't. I wasn't even really friends with the girl who collapsed. I hope that if something was ever wrong with me or s omebody I loved, that whoever is around will at least try.

As a side note, when the emt's arrived I told them we had performed cpr as best we could yet apparently when they took her to the hospital the doctors were told that NO cpr was performed. Her mother was extremely angry at us none of us were allowed to visit her for at least a week until the true story came out. Everything was on video too. That was another worry I had, like did I do something inappropriate or wrong and was I going to get sued? Then I just decided fuck it and we gave it our best.

saphire - that's really wierd that an EMT would do that. even just lifeguarding, if we know something is going wrong and we ignore it, don't do anything about it, or we don't clear the area and there are people who witness what we do and can confirm that we messed up we can get our butt's sued for oh what's the word...it's on the tip of my tongue...neglect...doesn't sound right...i'm gonna be trying to think of this all night!

but that's awesome that you did that!

yeah, well he claimed to be an emt. He was not part of the boo crew who arrived. For all we know he could have been just some weirdo.

thank you but I don't feel awesome. I don't think there was anything heroic (I don't like that word heroI'm only using it because someone at work said something) the whole incident made me feel strange, like I didn't even want to talk too much about it I was pretty pissed that nothing was really being done. I guess you could say I just perform well under pressure.

I think most of us suffered from shock and stress for awhile after that. Oh, you guys might even read about it in some book one day. There was a couple who had been coming in regularly from LA. I think either he or both of them were psychotherapists. Anyhow, they had mentioned they were writing a book, and they were part of the audience just sitting there and staring at us. Afterwards writing notes in a frenzy. They went to the hospital and lied and said they were her family so they could gain access to her room. The girl who was her best friend, well they were totally questioning her I guess like "how are you feeling right now" or some crap. Of course they were eventually escorted out but had the gall to give the friend "their card"

    Fucken weirdos.

saph - that's pretty common - we weren't allowed to go back to work for the day after doing something like that. if you save a kid, parents will NEVER thank you.

I have never had anything tramatic happen, but if something did happen that person would be lucky to have me around. I am good under pressure and am cpr certified. When something happens I am always the one who is first to jump. I want to work in a hospital someday.

I can't fucking believe some people. How can they just sit and stare? Its weird, but I learned in my sociology class that when their are more people around no one takes responsibility or acts. Like if you drive by a crash on a busy street you think "oh wow look at that, someone else will call 911" but if you were on an empty highway you would call right away.

I ABSOLUTELY hate when people come out and stand on their front porch with a drink in hand watching their neighbors house burn or the father of 3 being wheeled on a stretcher. Like its a fucking free show.

There is no doubt flashing lights can cause a seizure, and have. When a fire alarm goes off at work alot of people need to close their eyes, because they will be afraid of a Gran Mal.

Anyone can have one at any given time due to flashing lights. Some police cars have been known to cause a few officers to have a seizure while on duty because of flashing bright lights.

I think I technically could have a seizure (I'm hypoglocemic) but I never have. I have come close to passing out at work before. I usually tell the housemom or a couple of the other girls, no reason to tell management unless they are hands on in the club.
