Default Credit cards & Strip clubs

    -------------------------
Man dumps strip club bill on his bank!

    (source: Nettavisen)

The man claims he just ended up in the club accidentally and that he was drugged. He now demands that his bank, DnB, pays the bill for the club visit.
The Norwegian was on a business trip to Germany last summer. On the evening of June 30, he arrived in Düsseldorf, and around midnight he ended up at the exclusive strip club. The man states that he was served drinks, and afterwards he felt that everything was hazy, reports the Norwegian financial paper Dagens Næringsliv.

The man claims he remembers nothing from the evening after finishing his drinks. When he came to himself, his VISA card had been charged four times, adding up to almost NOK 50,000 (USD 7,246). The man claims that he was forced to sign the bills.

In its answer to the man, the bank states that he accepted the charges to his card by signing the bills. The bank has also received information that the bar is «an exclusive and very popular night club with a number of different services including entertainment by nude women. The amount of NOK 48,941.17 (USD 7092.92) does not appear to be extraordinary high for a place like that with such a large range of services.»

The complaints commission for banks, which has evaluated the man’s case, does not believe the man’s statement either, and the commission has not ruled in favour of the man.

A lot of guys have buyers remorse the morning after they leave a strip club having spent a chunk of money.

It's no wonder many clubs require a copy of a drivers license and some a fingerprint in order to defend themselves against bogus chargebacks.

Once the merchant account holder gets that info from the club, the cardholder usually has his chargeback claim rejected and is liable for the charges.

No, this is socialism at work. No European is ever responsible for anything. It is always "the system" that should take care of it.

This is buyers remorse, with the buyer not wanting to take responsibility for his actions. This guy just needs to be a man and suck up the charges.

This business is like any other...you run up a bill, you should expect to pay it. And if the customer has a hard time controlling his behavior when he drinks, he needs not to go out and get so smashed that he has trouble remembering things (like signing credit card slips). Or bring along a friend to babysit him.

WELL HE authorized ALL of the drinks that he drank.. so he should take responsibility... just like when a man gets drunk and sleeps with someone he didn't intend to sleep with , he still has to take responsibility for his actions if she gets preg.
the guy has no case, unless he gets a very good lawyer.

he was drugged huh??? thats a likely story? The first thing i would do after an incident like that is go to the hospital for a drug test. Then he may have some proof. (unless he was already on drugs) and that would be tedious for someone to try and prove.

Hahahaha!! Too bad this didnt work! I was drugged at the mall and forced to sign the credit card receipts! I think the sales girls slipped me a mickey!! Believable?
Did this man miss the fact that DnB doesnt have an inebriation clause stating that you have to be 100% sober!

Actually, this is referred to as a "chargeback", and happens more often than you hear about in the adult entertainment business. If the customer is 'straight laced', and the strip club / website / adult emporium charge is a one-time event (as opposed to a credit card history showing a pattern of such adult business oriented charges on a regular basis), and if the customer is a large credit card user / has a corporate credit card account / uses other financial services provided by the underwriting bank, it's actually rather likely that the credit card company will "write off" the customer's disputed adult business oriented credit card charge simply to keep this good credit card customer happy.

When this happens, the 'merchant' who was due to receive the money from the customer's credit card transaction gets stiffed. This has happened innumerable times with my website, and has also happened a couple of times while I was working live in clubs. Usually, when this happens at a club, if the dancer has already been paid her share of the customer's bill (like already received her cut from private dances she provided to this customer), then the club winds up eating a double whammy. Not only doesn't the club receive it's share of whatever the customer in question spent money on from the credit card company, but the club is also out of pocket the money it 'fronted' to the dancer for her share.

This is the reason that clubs often charge a 10% or 20% premium on all credit card charges, to cover their butt in the event that a small percentage of these credit card customers dispute the charges later thus causing the club to have to eat a "chargeback" for that amount.

I have to admit though that this particular guy's 'story' should receive a Creative Writing award !

Wow, I didn't know that was why clubs had the 10% charge. It all makes sense now. I always just thought that they were ripping customers off! Gosh, you know sooo much!
