Default Taking sodas out of your life?

For those of you that have taken sodas/pops out of your life....How did you go about doing it? Drinking less sodas a day, and drinking more water? Or just taking it out completely? ???

I am such a soda freak, I love canned drinks, but I want to take it out of my diet.

Are you drinking caffeinated sodas? You're going to probably have to cut down gradually to keep you energy levels up and your potential for headaches low. If you do it cold turkey, plan your second day without (seems like that one is always the worst) on a day off. Another option is to lose the soda and switch to green tea: you get some caffeine but not calories.

If you're drinking non-caffeinated sodas, well... maybe try switching to some fresh fruit juice and sparkling water or just the sparkling water and a squeeze of citrus.

I don't drink soda now and they are so sweet to my palate after all this time that they seem gross. You lose the taste for them after a while.
    Good luck.

Hi RoseDelight, boy I know how you’re feeling. At the end of last year I was drinking between 6-9 20oz leaded Diet Cokes a day, ouch. I was like forget beer, give me a diet coke. It hit me during Christmas that I had all but stopped drinking water and milk and this kind of scared me. I knew I needed a change.

I decided that for my 2004 new years resolution/plan that I would give up all caffeine for the month of Jan and go with only one a day after than. I also wanted to make a point of drinking at least 8 waters a day.

January was rough, I felt sluggish most of the month but I got better as the month wore on. By the end of the month I physically was feeling great. I did not work out as much as I would have liked but I was focused on breaking my dc addition. Once I made it past Jan it has been cake. I'm on my 4th month and could not feel better. I don't get the craving like I used to.

The only drawback I have had other than the first month stuff was I seem to get heartburn a lot more than I used to. Kind of weird but I just think all the caffeine and carbonation I was drinking was killing everything in my stomach. To me a minor issue to feel better.

I am proud to say that I kicked my soda addiction... now I have an addiction to Sugarfree Red Bull... not sure if that's any better...

But, how I did it was drinking a TON of water with lemon juice splashed into it.. I also drank a lot of green tea, which is very good for your body anyways.

Nowadays, I can't even drink soda, I take a couple of sips and its so sweet, I almost get sick...

I had to take some Excedrin the first week though.. if you can make it through a week, you've got it made..

Also... I can't believe how much water I was retaining when I was drinking soda.. it makes a huge difference when you quit.

    Good luck!

I was completely addicted to Coca-Cola. Sugar and caffeine. I stopped drinking them completely and started drinking Diet Coke. I can't handle the taste of the diet, so I'd have only a couple of those day. The rest of the time, I just drank bottled water (with Vitamin C powder in some of them...Thanks, Farrah! ) Now that I've gotten myself over the caffeine addiction, pretty much all I drink is water. If I have to have a soda, I drink Diet Sprite, but not often.

I had one Coca-Cola on Easter, and could barely drink it, because it just doesn't taste good to me anymore.

i never really liked pop, i only drank it because it was there, and I don't like water either, water seems to make me thirstyer. i have always liked juice, kool-aid is good too. now i drink mostly juice (useually v8 splash, although recently tropican has been on sale) watered down (its cheaper that way).... sometimes I drink soymilk, tea, and very rarely coffee or hot chocolate, even more rarely pop. oh and sometimes wine or other alcohol... this year I have had half a glass of that sprite remix because it smelled sorta like smirnoff.... actually i think the last time i had pop before that was last august when i lived with my sister and we were out of kool-aid....

the hardest part for you will be the caffine addiction. buy some juice or if you want water or whatever, and just start supplimenting that, perhaps after a certain time in the evening or something.

Try sparkling or carbonated water. Its comes in a variety of flavors.
I have never really been a soda drinker.. But occasionally I'll drink an organic soda from Whole Foods..They taste great with out all the added crap and they also use better sweetners.

You can switch to diluted drinks, diluting them with more water each time to gradually wean yourself off the sugar. When diluting them, use carbonated water to suppress the craving for something fizzy.

I stopped drinking cokes and pepsi's by cutting down to one a day for awhile (like with a meal). Then just gradually drink water or juice instead. I drink the hell out of the little hi-c juice boxes (100% vitamin C). If you're craving one (and it happens) then allow it as a treat, but try not to drink them all the time. In the end, you will feel better w/o them.

I honestly don't know how I stopped drinking soda...I just stopped liking them. I do the watered down juice thing Like ami, though. Some juices are just too think. The only time I have soda now is at a restaurant because I hate water and am allergic to tea.

I would just say, try to work yourself down gradually like Giselle. eventually you will get to the point where you prefer other things

Now...how to wean off of chocolate...hmmmmm

I haven't had a soda in forever...but I used to be a coke addict (coca cola addict!)...I stopped when i took sugar out of my diet completely, so it was kind of one big wham bam. I drank a lot of water, lemon water, herbal teas, green tea, black tea and 1 coffee a day (still do).

Brush your teeth a lot (who wants todrink soda with a minty mouth?), make sure you are always hydrated (at the first sign of dehydration your body will want a soda), and think of the fact that soda gives you cavities, ages you (phosphoric acid) and gives you cellulite. And for god's sake don't just switch to diet cola!

When I started doing Body For Life I wanted to up my water intake to a gallon a day and stop diet sodas. While I can't say I completely stopped sodas, a big help for me was keeping gallon jugs of water in my car. I spend quite a bit of time driving from here to there and when there was water all over the place I was more inclined to drink it. Drinking more water helped to replace the sodas and if you buy it in the gallon water jugs, it tells you exactly how much you have left to make the gallon mark for the day (if you are going for that).

Drinking from a gallon jug at a stop light is not as lady like as a 20 oz bottle, but who reallly cares?

I take chronium for my sugar cravings, so I don't even like sweet things like soda anymore

you know... i used to be a sugar-holic, everything had to have mad sugar in it... i drank tea with about 20 packets... i even put sugar on my wendys chicken sandwiches (back when i ate meat)... but yesterday i was shopping with my husband and i saw the cookie dough isle.. i sat there looking for a while, but none of them sounded good... we ended up getting breadsticks.. its weird because i used to eat that stuff raw by the stick! with sprinkles! i just dont get it........

I successfuly cut out soda. Not completly though I have at least eight cups of water a day. I like drinking aquafina bottled water. Tap water tastes gross to me. I have a soda mabey once a week and when I go for a soda it is not diet crap it is the real thing that I enjoy every bit of it. I drink unsweeted iced tea, herbal tea, black coffee and 100% juice once in a while. In reality caffine is not all that bad for you if you have like one cup of coffee a day it will not hurt you which is what I have. I don't drink redbulls of parahnas anymore which I used to drink whenever I worked I just have black coffee before I start my shift and it tides me over not to mention cuts back on tons of calories. Sometimes water gets boring but sometimes I really crave it. I am so glad I got my soda addiction under control. Belive me you will start liking water eventualy. Not to mention you will lose a couple pounds as well eaisily!

One thing that made me stop, I found out dark pop stains your teeth, and since I'm such a nut about keeping my teeth white, I immediately stopped drinking pepsi and coke. I still drink sprite and the likes once in a while, but I love water cuz it's so damn hydrating. As far as tea, i'll drink it, but that tends to dehydrate you rather than hydrate.
