    Default Shoes for Newbies

I'm posting this after coming across a similar post about someone finding a shoe on electric boutique for newbies. I was wondering if any of the veterans wore the cone heel type of shoes. I own a pair from last halloween and basically are the ones in the pic I posted with this, except they're clear instead of black. They have no ankle strap and I was wondering if I would be able to dance in the being a newbie and all, or would I be better off investing in some with ankle straps.

I would never try and dance with out an ankle strap. I need that support for my foot, especially during long shifts. If nothing else, it helps me to feel more confident in my shoes. That helps me to look confident and be sexy when performing. Plus, I've practiced in shoes with out straps before and had problems with accidently kicking off the shoe. Just my opinion though.

    Hi TimidAngel,

You might want to check out the shoes Bridgette posted under the topic "Platforms for newbies." They look easier to dance in and more comfortable than most dancer shoes, they look sexier than the chunky heel shoes most new dancers start out in, and they have an ankle strap as well.

I'm with LayaLeighton-I would not dance in heels that do not have ankle straps. They seem like they would be easier to twist your ankle in, and there's a chance that they could slip off.

I bought a pair of shoes without ankle straps once and I only wore them for one stage set. I didn't hurt my ankle and my shoes didn't come off, but I felt so paranoid that my shoe would come off or that I would fall or hurt myself that I just wasn't comfortable dancing and I think it showed. It's up to you, but I would definitely get shoes with ankle straps.

those are pretty cute...but they aren't very good for dancing. definitely get something with a strap...it'll be a lot easier on you. besides, when your shoe isn't very secure, you'll look down more instead of at the guys, which makes you look less secure, which usually means less money.

I agree with the other ladies that have posted-definitely get something with an ankle strap. I've been dancing for 5 years and STILL wouldn't attempt working without ankle straps.

I gotta agree. Ankle straps are the only way to go. Never have to worry abour that dreaded flying shoe!

I've worn the cone heel and I love them!! They're a little easier to balance in than the skinny stripper heels.

    I don't have a pair of slip ons...just too paranoid, I guess.

Ankle straps are the way to go. I'd recommend boots or booties to start out in, especially if you're tall...makes learning pole tricks easier too.
