    Default Massage Therapy Questions

I have been told some things that I would like to get straight. Is it true that massage loosens "toxins" (like lactic acid) from the muscle tissue and causes the patient to feel sick afterwards? Is it also true that massage helps prevent and reduce cellulite? Also, when I worked in Guam I saw the mama-sans give the Korean dancers some tough-looking massages (pulling arms, sticking elbows in backs, etc). What is this style of massage and is it as good as Swedish style?

Yes it does release toxins but I wouldn't say it makes you feel sick... can give you a slight headache so its best to have a massage on your day off and drink lots of water.
I am sure it would be good for cellulite but getting rid of it would take more than massage alone.
No idea what kind of massage that was... every massuse has their own style... I like a deep tissue/remedial massage myself.

Yes, massage loosens alot of toxins, and depending on how healthy you are and how much water you drink, you could have no symptons at all following a massage, to extreme discomfort like nausau and headache. The best remedy to that is to drink more water and do some light exercise. Often people who get ALOT of massages will build up an immunity to this type of discomfort.

There are types of massage that claim to help reduce and prevent cellute, but from personal experience, I can tell you that these massages are so painful that they are not even worth it! It would be less painful to try to exercise that cellulite off. I've met massage clients who swear that they have lost fat from this type of massage, but since I'm not into extreme pain I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

The type of massage you saw could be a combination of anyone of these: sports massage type stretching, deep tissue, Rolfing, also Thai style massage and accupressure. These kinds of massages are good for working out big knots and releasing tight muscles. Swedish massage is more for light muscle relaxation and to get your circulation going.

    Hope that helps!
