Hey girls !
I just did acrylics again, but the problem is everytime i do it i cannot tan under fake uv lights. I was wondering if there is any protection so my acrylics wont go black or yellow. How can i protect my new nails?

Most people would rather be certain they're miserable, than risk being happy.
Yes. Get "yellow out" put on them at the nail place. I tan with mine on all the time. They don't turn yellow or discolor with this stuff on them.

I just stick my finger tips in my socks, A local tanning place told me to do so and voila, no yellow. Easiest solution no money involved (And some may think wha???? Take socks off and put em on either side of yourself, stick fingers in, not too far or your fingers will stay white whilst the rest of you bronzifies.)

couldn't you avoid that, save money, and not risk so much uva/uvb rays exposure by using a self tanner? or do those not work for you?
I get mine done by them too. They will know. It's just like a top coat. They also have nail covers. They're plastic things that go over your nail. I find these at the tanning places I go to.

Just go to a beauty supply store and buy top coat polish with UV block in it. Every other day, reapply this on top of nails....does an excellent job at preventing discoloration of acrylic. Also, at the tanning salon......if you apply accelerator before tanning, use a wet towelette on nails before climbing into bed. Accelerator lotion on nails can cause discoloration also(especially if it contains bronzer).

I do a combination acrylic/uv gel - acrylics with airbrushed french tips, then they use a coat of uv gel as a sealer - I never have an issue with discoloration in the tanning bed, perhaps because of the gel topcoat?
Best thing to do is get fiber glass nails as they don't yelloe
my nails never really yellowed. i always got french and they would just get a little darker. Honestly I like the way it looked a lot, after more than 2 weeks though the white tip would start to discolor.

Yes, they also look healthier and last longer. The gel is awesome.Originally Posted by Ara
i think they don't get discolored... because when I had the LCN gels on... I tanned frequently and never got that yellow staining that I got with plain acrylic.

I've heard of these little finger cover things that you can wear in the tanning bed...
If everything you try is a sure thing, you aren't taking enough risks. If you never fail, you put a limit on the degree to which you can succeed. In short, the only way to win big is to risk losing

I have a question to add: Has anyone had their nails turn yellow/discolored from smoking?
I occassionaly have a social cigarette and have never noticed.....
