I see people on ebay selling stuff and making lots of money. I tried to find things at yard sales and wholesalers. It's really hard to find wholesale lists that aren't scams. Wondering if anyone can give any insight in this.

re sellers license... buying wholesale.. all that. Seems like too much work for me. I too, have hit a brick wall with that.
My friend owns a retail shop, and her daughter sells her "close-outs" on ebay. She seems to make a ok profit on it?
My bf and I run a biz on Ebay and became Powersellers about a year & 1/2 ago.
When we started out, about 2.5 years ago, I went through every on line wholesaler list there is and I will tell you that there is not much money to to made through those companies.
Some are not "scams" but they don't offer high quality merch and the ones that do charge up to 80% of retail, so it is not a good return on your $$.
Almost everything we get now are from contacts we have made over the years that either sell to us direct or put us in contact with people that can do so.
If NE1 starts a biz and has ne ?s, please feel free to email me!

selling on ebay has become much like the real world. For almost every "niche" there are large companies selling products for less than you can get them for wholesale. There are many people on ebay with 50,000 plus feedbacks, and several with 100,000 plus. These people are like the Walmart's and Home Depots of Ebay. It's almost impossible to try to compete with these people and there are these kind of people for almost every niche including clothing, cars, beauty products, vitamins, electronics, dvd's and cd's, and almost all other areas. Now unless you can find a "untouched" market on ebay, it will be very difficult to make a strong market presence.
What many of these people do is start by selling at almost no profit. They then increase their volume by selling so cheap and therefore get a larger discount from the vendors because they are selling at such high volumes. THEN they start making some money, as long as they keep the volume high. They will still probably be selling for cheaper than you can buy the product wholesale for.
I am not saying it is impossible to make money on ebay, I am just saying that it is extremely competative. I personally have an ebay rating of over 150 and have sold over 250 items on ebay (not everyone leaves feedback) I am currently getting into a new market of selling INFORMATION, the most valuable commodity of the 21st century.
We are in the information age, people are paying for knowledge more than ever. If you are reading this, you know how much time in our lives we spend reading, asking, learning, telling, and wondering about every little thing. If you can sell the knowledge or information that people want to know, you can become VERY wealthy. There are literally thousands and thousands of e-books that get sold every day on ebay. People pay for knowledge about all kinds of subjects. If you have ever bought a book or the newspaper, you have paid for information
Nice thought, being a powerseller on ebay(?) First of all...are you currently selling on ebay? If not, start now and get the routine down. It can be a lot of work if you are not organized (i.e. listings, photos, communicating with buyers, packaging, shipping, tracking items, etc.) Just because a seller has a ton of + feedback = transactions. It does not mean they are 'making big $$'. Many are liquidating overstock, discontinued, sample product, selling cheap crap, etc. Look around, i'll bet you have a bunch of good to great stuff right under your nose? You already own it, never use or wear it? SELL IT ! You will be really suprised at what people will pay for what you were going to donate, give away or throw out. That is how I started out and still do, besides take advantage of any incredible deal I run into and then turn around and list it for more. My wife buys and sells pooh collectibles, kids toys, clothes that she buys for mere change at garage sales. I am not a power seller, nor do I want to be. I do however make some decent $$ ebaying and have 500+ transactions. I've set several friends up as sellers and have a few more tips and tricks to make auction life a lil' easier. Just ask
I'd be interested in starting an EBAY business...maybe a few of us (each with a few things to sell) could team up - by pulling several small operators together, we could become a single, versatile and responsive powerseller.
ANyone game?

I'm quite happy being a lone individual seller on ebay (.com.au).... I mainly sell stuff via ebay to get rid of it (instead of donating or throwing away) than profit. If I make a profit, then all the better however most of the time I do not.
I'm not really aiming to be a powerseller or even have a biz via ebay (.com.au in my case).... just use as a way for me to get rid of items I don't want nor use or have not used.

I use Ebay very much like GoldCoastGirl most of the time; but I do sometimes take advatage of a sale and list items at a higher price.I made a nice profit off of closeout Xmas and Hallowen Barbie dolls this yearI also have bought on Ebay as well.
I also use Half.com- actually I think I started with them firstI like the concept of a world marketplace. And hey, nothing beats your stuff being delivered to your front door

I too Buy and Sell on Ebay. I have two seperate accounts( Seller Ids). One account is mainly for women's gently worn and sometimes new designer clothing . I initially started selling clothes when I moved, about a year ago and decided my wardrobe needed to be downsized. The other items come from department store sales, Loehman's and Century 21 here in New York.
My second account toritips, I've been selling exotic dancerwear and shoes for a few years. I just recently found someone local that makes exoticwear and will wholesale items to me. I am going to assist with the designs so you won't see the same cookie cutter items most websites sell. Sooo starting the first week of June I will have listed on Ebay gowns, dresses and rompers with matching thongs, shoes and rhinestone jewelry for sale.
Gowns with matching thong ~ $48.00
Dress with matching thong ~ $40.00
Rompers with matching thong ~$28.00
Shoes @ $40-$45

Also if you are interested in maybe purchasing some items and taking them to work to sell email me and I will give you a good deal on 4 pieces or more.
A girl friend/co-worker just bought her mercedes coupe on eBay, only 1 year old. I plan on putting my Mercedes on eBay. I surf the site all the time.
Making big $$$$, not sure. Finding what people want works for me. My car enough should make me a good deal, but a power seller, i doubt it, after the car goes, i will move on to selling Harley parts for my roomie.
