    Default Eat Right 4 Your Type

    Has anyone done this? I recently went on a cruise and met a woman that swore by it, and since we were both the same blood type (A), she let me have her book.....actually, it was more like she insisted I take it.

    I've done it for 4 days now and I have to say I have a lot of energy and I've lost a pound and a half. It says I should be eating a diet which is very similar to the Asian diet....grains, fruits, vegetables, soy, certain fish, nuts, etc. This also supposedly explains why I could never lose weight on the Atkins (which is a good diet for O types, which possibly explains why so many people have good results with it.) I was also dragging on Atkins, and had stinky breath and constipation, so I don't think it was right for me.

    Any body know more about this?

    imo.... this diet is just guesses and speculation..... i am an O and i dont even like, no change that cant stand the taste of most of the items it says O should eat. if i was an A like you I might like it, but only because thats what i eat anyway..... I didnt gain or lose any weight though with what i eat now......

    yeah, this diet works great for me....it's stuff I like to eat anyway.

    I have a feeling half the reason you lose weight is because you eliminate all junk. It's a very natural diet. I was thinking of Ryan when I was doing my grocery shopping.

    But I was also thinking of a time when I went vegetarian, but eliminating a lot of egg and dairy (was more political than for health benefits) and I felt great and lost weight. I did eat a lot of stuff on the avoid list though.....like potatoes, oranges, bananas.

    I looked on Amazon...got mixed reviews from people, but most of the people that had issues with it were ones that hadn't even tried it.

    I am an A too and tried it out also... I was pretty much eating that way anyways just had to elimanate a few nuts and certain veges. I didn't notice much difference .... I have heard alot of success stories though so if its working for you keep it up!

    I've had 600g of muesli, 500g yoghurt and about 1/2 litre fresh milk (yup, thats been my intake today). I hope it suits my blood type.

    I have to reignite this thread.
    I'm seeing alot of sense in this diet. As i'm getting older i am naturally drawn to the right, and repelled by the wrong, foods for me. It all seems to be backed up by this information. I often crave the food that's on the 'Highly Beneficial' list

    As a child i'd have severe reactions to dairy. Maybe my parents shouldn't have seen that as a 'problem'. According to my blood type i should avoid almost all dairy. I can eat it now, but my guess is that it's been hard on my body. Bye bye, my beloved cheeses (this one will be tough)

    I'm going to follow it closely from now on. I'm type O. More meat and seafood for me!

    Oh my God, this could have been my mom! She is positively evangelical about this diet. Funny, something about this diet inspires people to spread the word just like that woman on the cruise. Mom gets to the point where she interrogates every houseguest about their blood type, and flat-out refuses to serve them foods that are "toxic" to them.

    I'm an "O" too, and I think I also tend to gravitate towards some of the blood-type appropriate foods when I'm on a health kick. I can certainly see some sense in this approach. However, I have read some criticism of the plan's research being "pseudo-science", and explaining that the reason it works is because you're going to be eating healthier, lower-calorie/fat/badcarb foods no matter what your individual type is. In other words, the same way every diet works: I don't remember for sure, but I'm guessing that Cheetos and Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby probably aren't on any blood type's "highly beneficial" list. Know what I mean?

    On sugarfreesheila.com she says in her FAQ she tried this. The A diet for her type made her gain, and the O diet (lower carb) was actually ideal for her. So I don't think it's for everyone, but interesting idea.

    What blood type is she?

    I'm an A and when I did low-carb, I couldn't lose weight. I didn't get it.

    I still pretty much follow the A diet now and am doing pretty well healthwise, except for some occasional gas.

    Oh, and the crazy woman on the cruise was a woman my age, so I don't think she was your mom

    She has type A blood and was doing the diet for that blood type, as per the book

    But she didn't lose the weight until she switched to the O type diet. Glad it's working for you though

    you should look at the book for more details, but here are the basics:

    Type A types should basically stick to fruits and vegetables (high carbs / low fat). They have thicker blood than other blood types, a sensitive immune system, and should not consume dairy products, animal fats and meats. They are at a heightened risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.

    Type B types should consume a balanced diet (fruits and vegetables, grains, fish, dairy, meat, but avoid chicken). They have the best chance of bypassing or overcoming everyday types of diseases, including heart disease and cancer.

    Type AB typesshould consume a mostly vegetarian diet, and only on rare occasions some fish, meat (no chicken), and dairy.

    Type O typesshould basically stick to a high protein diet (including red meat), low carbs, and enriched with fruits and vegetables. They should limit the intake of wheat germ, whole wheat products, corn, and avoid dairy products and most nuts.

    Type O types are commonly affected with hypothyroidism, high stomach acid
    (leading to ulcers), and thinner blood with greater resistance to blood clotting.

    While the science seems thin at times, I confess that I have been adhering to this lifestyle for at least five years now, though mostly by accident as I didn't know about the book until well after I'd started the change.

    I'm Type O-Negative, and for years I would find myself getting sick eating what most people kept telling me was a healthy diet. When I dramatically reduced eating grains and dairy as part of my diet and reverted to primarily meats and high-protein foods (soy, whey, egg) my health and my body did a complete 180. I went from 165lbs to 185lbs--almost entirely muscle, dropped two inches from my waist (down to a 31), and found that I had more energy, was less prone to lethargic episodes, slept better and my persistent cystic acne disappeared.

    My brother, who is Type A, had a very similar experience, as he'd always had digestion problems with red meat and congestion problems related to dairy products. He changed his diet to reflect what his body was rejecting and accepting and his near-constant congestion disappeared.

    Again, some say the science is thin, but there's certainly enough anecdotal evidence to investigate it further.

    I'm an O, I did Atkins and it was gross. Mind you i was only eating meat and cheese. Including pork which is bad for O's. As well as the cheese (being a big no no) I really didn't eat any friut or vege's and i think that's where it all went wrong. I was going for the super weight loss real quick. I felt so yuck. I had the above mentioned symptoms too. Eww.
    I love my meat and seafood, i just couldn't live on those alone. I find i feel great when i eat loads of seafood. Fish, oysters, scallops, mussels...all that stuff!

    Grains are ok occasionaly for O's. Just no wheat. I LOVE essene bread. Spelt, kamut and rye are ok too. Wheat makes me feel shite anyways.

    This diet has had bad reviews from medical boards. It works - because each diet cuts out a large range of food that people would normally get their calories from, not because it's working with your blood type.

    Google the reviews about it and you'll find mostly bad ones.

    I'm type O, so I had a look at the list. I guess I am kind adoing the atkins thing anyway since I dont eat much bread. I just dont really like bread. What got my attention is that most of the things I am supposed to avoid, I'm allergic to anyway.

    I am eating a lot more fresh fruits (well I juice them) and veggies. I am eating more protien, god knows I like my rib-eyes! I am also adding protien powder into my fresh juice.

    Thanks for the thread coming back to life. It explains why I dropped 60 pounds so fast! And I didnt try to diet, I just got sick of the stuff I was eating!

    It's not really a diet in the sense that you do it to lose weight. It's more of a diet to maximize health and perform at maximum efficiency....at least, that's what the author says.

    i found i already liked the things on my type O list. when i eat more like a caveman (meat and greens) things go swimmingly. i already shunned pork, cabbage etc etc...

    when i go to a japanese bbq restaurant and eat raw meat, bbq meat, dark greens and rice, i am in heaven. (it's just tough avoiding an ice cold asahi... aaaargh)

    if i get my snout into wheat/dairy, it's a whole world of pain and acne. not worth the stretch. is it just a coincidence that type Os should avoid it? dunno...

    I'm also an O and eat high protein with very little dairy (just some cheese, no milk or ice cream) and very little grains.

    I have thin blood and a stress induced ulcer. My family has a history of overactive thyroids. So it can't all be bunk. And, if it is, it's one hell of a coincidence.

    Huh. Well, I'm an O, and when I was vegetarian for two years I became so intensely anemic (b12 and iron) that my lips looked blue. I was vampira the sleepyhead. My friend studies nutrition and she was all "it's impossible for a person's iron to hit the floor so fast as that" (i had mine tested shortly before being veggie for other reasons, and then after six months of it when I was suddenly so sick). I've known many vegetarians who thrive on the diet, without being half as iron conscientious as I was, so??? If this eat-4-your-type stuff is at all true, it would be an explanation for my non-meat disaster.

    Also, wheat and dairy ram up my IBS like nothing else. Maybe I should try this thing...hm.

    ETA- I just read the overview, and . So much "word!". So many of those 'bad O foods' are the ones I list as personal "IBS irritators". Crazy.
