    Default Whey protein?

Farrah, or anyone else who knows- How effective is whey protein? I would like to take LPP and Tonalin CLA, but from what I can tell, LPP is collagen, which comes from animal tendons and joints, and I can't bring myself to take it. Whey would be from milk, right? Is it good for you, good in helping build muscles and decrease fat? Any info would be appreciated.

([Side note about my fucked up moral choices- I know I'm crazy] I don't like to consume anything that kills animals, however, I have recently become less strict about this and feel I'm on a slippery slope. I know glucosamine and chrondoitin will help my knees, so I consider it medically necessary. So I decided to take the capsules which are coated in gelatin. Then I wanted to take the Tonalin CLA and saw they were also in gelatin, so since I was already compromising my morals with the Glucosamine and Chrondoitin, I thought, "what the hell, I'll take these too." So I don't know why I can do that, but still don't want to take the collagen. I Think I'm insane sometimes.)

Whey is a very good source of protein....give it a try. Its one of the ingredients in LPP. I also take it mixed in shakes. Let me know what you decide..

A good one is designer protein. When I was really into working out and trying to add more muscle I added it to oatmeal and sugar free puding and protein shakes too.It doesnt taste that great in shakes, metrx is the best for taste, but it works pretty good.

You should try a protein powder called Isopure. It's completely pure, so you don't bloat from it (or get excessively gassy). I love it!!! It's by far the best protein powder I have ever used!

I have been taking to Whey protein and soy protien. I also workout with 3, 5, & 8 pound weights and I do cadio. I love it. The shakes are great. Protien helps build muscle and I have great definintion in my legs now. I decided to start taking it because I do not get much protien in my diet. The Whey protien is great.

When I was at the grocery store, I noticed they carried Designer Whey, so i bought that. I am still interested in the hemp protein though. I'll let you know how it goes with the whey protein. Thanks for your help.

I don't see alot of mention of soy protein. i was just curious as to why this is. i supplemented with the soy, didn't care for it one way or the other; but if there is a difference in results with an alternative form such as the whey i'd be willing to try that.

soy is a really poor source of protien. For the record, reguardless of what the soy corporations want you to know, soy is NOT a health food. Fermented unpasteurized soy, or miso which is how the japanese eat it, is the only way that it can properly be assimilated by the body. All the soy milks, protiens, soy cheese and everything else that they sell here as "health-foods" is a bitter lie. Do you know that soy protien is often processed with hexane, a solvent similar to gasoline ?

check out www.nutiva.com for more info on hepm protien, a far superior product to whey and soy.

    info from mercola.com -

Soybeans are high in natural toxins, also known as antinutrients. This includes a large quantity of inhibitors that deter the enzymes needed for protein digestion. Further, these enzyme inhibitors are not entirely disabled during ordinary cooking. The result is extensive gastric distress and chronic deficiencies in amino acid uptake, which can result in dangerous pancreatic impairments and cancer.

Soybeans contain hemaglutinins, which cause red blood cells to clump together. Soybeans also have growth-depressant substances, and while these substances are reduced in processing, they are not completely eliminated.

Soy contains goitrogens, which can frequently lead to depressed thyroid function.

Most soybeans are genetically modified, and they contain one of the highest levels of pesticide contamination of all foods.

Soybeans are very high in phytates, which prevent the absorption of minerals including calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc, all of which are co-factors for optimal biochemistry in the body.

Finally, in an effort to remove antinutrients from soy out of the final product, soybeans are taken through a series of chemical processes including acid washing the soy in aluminum tanks. This leaches high levels of aluminum, a toxic heavy metal, into the final soy products. Many soy foods also have toxic levels of manganese. Soy formula has up to 80 times higher manganese than is found in human breast milk.

Ok. I'm not really liking the Designer Whey. The store only had chocolate and vanilla, so I got chocolate. It is so sweet, it is disgusting. It doesn't dissolve well either, so it is like drinking sweet, gooey clumps if I mix it in milk. (I don't like many sweet things.) So, I tried putting it in my coffee, but it curdled, so it was like chocolate cottage cheese. I know I should try to get some unsweetened kind, but here is my question- what about food sources of protein. I noticed that the yogurt I was putting the whey in has 11 grams of protein per serving, whereas the Designer Whey has 17 per scoop. It doesn't seem like much difference. What if I just eat a lot of plain lowfat yogurt and cottage cheese? Would the protein be as helpful or moreso than takinga gross supplement?

I think that you should try Isopure. I actually like the taste of it, but I get Vanilla. I make smoothies with it. Here's my favorite recipe:

    6 oz. Diet Sunkist
    1 peeled orange
    1 can Orange Yogurt
    2 scoops of Vanilla Isopure
    6-8 ice cubes

Put everything into the blender and blend until frothy (about 15-30 seconds). Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!!

You can also make a berry smoothie:

    1 banana
    1/4 c. of blueberries
    1/4 c. raspberries
    1/2 c. of vanilla yogurt
    6-8 ice cubes
    6 oz. water

Just drop them into the blender and blend!! Enjoy!

I get my Isopure from my gym...you can also get it from places like GNC. It's kinda pricey, but it lasts for a while.

Isopure is made from Pure Protein...it doesn't make you gassy and it doesn't upset your stomache.

Let me know if you need anything else (PM me).

Sorry...I called it that because they take the Whey Protein Isolate and take out all of the impurities that you typically find in Whey Proteins. They call is 100% Pure Ion Exchange Whey Protein Isolate.

    I hope that helps!
