I used be in awesome shape when I did tae kwon do. The thing is the workouts are brutal hard, but you're distracted with focusing on your positions and stuff so you don't realize it while your working hard. I was incredibly flexible too, splits were no problem...now they are starting to be If you want wicked arms without messing with your boobs...I hate to say it...but it's all about the pushups. They tone your back too which helps with having good posture (which makes your boobs look bigger ) But try to start out with "girl" pushups on your knees if they are too hard and work your way up. Tricep pushups are good too, you put your hands together in sort of a diamond shape (fingertips touching, thumbs touching) instead of shoulder width apart...but those are brutal, I worked up from doing 3 sets of 5 to 3 sets of 25.

Ok....I keep watching these Windsor Pilates infomercials (I love them...they get me so motivated for some stupid reason) and I downloaded the beginners basic workout off of Kazaalite.....but my problem is, I can't even do the beginning stuff! Ya know how it starts off with the hundred? I can't put my legs straight up in the air! My hamstrings have become so inflexible, I can't even make a 90 degree anlge between my legs and body. That makes all the other sitting excercises impossible for me too. The best my body can do is, like, a 120 degree angle. What can I do about this? It's absurd that I can't even follow beginners workouts!!!! I can't imagine doing stretches for 3 months just so I can START working out!
SCGirl, I feel your pain, sweetie...literally. I know you don't like to spend a lot of money (I'm the same way, I'm a poor college student!) but it is worth it to buy the tapes or the DVDs. On her tapes, Mari always has one person doing a more low-impact version of each exercise. She doesn't stretch her legs all the way up or do anything too difficult. And throughout her workout she tells you things you can do instead of the difficult exercises. The idea is that if you start off that way, sooner or later you'll work your way up to what the rest of the class is doing. I was the most unflexible person in the universe when I started, and I'm still not flexible at all... but between that and stretching, I'm doing things I never thought I could. You can do eeet! (Sorry, watched The Waterboy recently).

Cardio and metabolism boosting, high protein diet! I can't stress these two enough for burning fat, and when accompanied by any form of weight training/exercise, the fat is replaced with toned muscle.

Diet and nutrients are really key. You can work-out an hour a day, 5 days a week and still see very slow results. Adopt 10-15 minutes of cardio, and switch to a high protein, supplemented/graze 5 times a day diet and you'll see results inside two weeks. As a rule, I try to consume something with 20-25g of protein every 3 hours. If you're on the go, pack a bagel w/ peanut butter (atkins fans may freak, but carbs are good heh).. or grab some of those 24g protein bars. Eat small meals several times a day and over a period of time, your appetite will totally adjust and your metabolism will be through the roof. If you are going for toned/muscular physique, I can't advocate the use of creatine strong enough. 5-10g a day can really help speed muscle growth and extend your work-out. A couple month supply will run you around $40 at most weight training stores.

For gym exercises, I'm still a huge fan of free weights over most machines. It's much cheaper and more practical to have a home-gym this way too, which means you can do your workout at home, in front of the TV or however you feel comfortable. Most used sporting goods stores have dumbbell sets from 5 to 35lbs dirt cheap. If you're trying to isolate muscle groups, a GREAT site that lists several dumb-bell, barbell and machine exercises per group can be found at:
    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm

Just click the muscle group and scroll to find the equipment you have. It also has some really cool, printable workouts you can tailor and apply- regardless of your equipment.

And SCGirl- don't worry about the insane flexibility even some of those "beginner" pillates display. You are definately not alone in being unable to stretch or flex to even the most basic routines as I know several women who's bodies just can't do those kinds of things. You might want to instead put pillates on hold and get into weight training, diet and yoga. You can likely get some awesome initial results doing what is better suited to your body now, at which point those results can open the door for pillates down the road. It sure beats being discouraged on the onset. Stick with it and have fun! Most of the extremely toned physique women I know at the clubs simply do weight-training and yoga. They are easily "10's" from a fitness level alone. Pillates WILL help your dancing down the road- as it does increase flexibility and helps tone legs/butt quite well. Just remember you need to learn to crawl before you can walk.
It doesn't matter if you're somebody in this world, it rather matters you mean the whole world to somebody.

Great info PC! i agree that diet and nutrients are really key.

Last year i worked out with a personal trainer.... he kicked my ass! but i didn't really change my diet. After 6 weeks i still wasn't seeing the results i expected and i gave up. When i finally changed my eating habits and started a low fat version of the atkins, the results were very noticable.

I am also right there with you, when it comes to free weights over machines.

    Seraya.

    Gynger,
I have had similar symptoms. I have been very fatigue lately and have had no energy to do anything. I dont want to take a whole bunch of diet pills to get energy since too much is bad for you. But, where did you go to get tested? Does it cost money (since i have no health insurance). Thanks a bunch and its cool to read that yoga helps I think i will try that since i hear it tones n stuff.
