    Default Help for a friend!

I have a friend who is currently homeless and 21 years old. She works 30 hours a week at cvs and doesn't make enough to support herself. I told her to sign up for section 8 but it is like a three-five year wait. Her boyfriend kicked her out of his apartment and she has no living parents or support. I am trying to scan my head for programs or support for homeless youth. I asked my roommate if she could stay with me and they said absolutely not. She is a really good kid.

Im sorry to hear about your friend hun. That really sucks. Why would your roomate say that? I feel bad for her, but I dont know what exactly you mean by your thread.
You titled it "Help for a friend" but theres no question. Im not being picky, but do you mean you want someone to take her in? Someone to send a donation? Or for someone to post links to a good place for her to go? I am confused.
Either way I hope it works out.

I am sorry. I am not asking for donation or anything, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can direct her for help. I was hoping that maybe someone on here was ever homeless before. I told her she could work at the club I used to work at but she dosen't want to be a stripper. I just don't know what to do because I never was homeless. I think my roommates have a stigma about homeless people.

Let us know what city you are in - it would be very easy to Google for the info, if we knew where you are.

Have you tried calling the United Way? They may know of a non-profit group in your city that could help. You might also try the Salvation Army. I remember seeing a while back on the news where the Salvation Army had a program to help the homeless find full-time work. You could live with them for 6 weeks while your found work. After that you had to get out on your own. I don't know it they have that kind of thing in every city though.

she works thirty hrs a week at cvs? Ok, look in the newspaper, and see if anyone is renting out a room or something! You can probally get one pretty cheap and enough working at cvs.
What an ass for kicking her out, if he wanted out of the relationship he should have helped her find other living arrangements first!!
Why not ask your roomates if she can stay for a week or so until she finds a room to rent out (what 375 a week or so) or even go to a hotel and rent it out by the week. There is no reason why she should be homeless if SHE IS WORKING.
She hasn't asked anyone at cvs for help with her current situation? You would think someone there would help her first because they want to keep a fellow worker.

go to facethejury.com, and they have a link for "roomates looking for roomates" I think that should help.

well i don't know if this will be much help, but there was a situation at my old club where one dancer took another dancer into her home... and to make a long story short... they got into a couple of fights and no longer got along... the apartment owner kicked the other girl out, and the other girl went to the police, who said that if someone has been living with you for 30 days or more, it is illegal to just kick them and their things out on the street... you must give them 30 days notice... so even though the girls no longer got along, she was obligated to keep the other girl in her home for another 30 days, during which time she was able to save enough money to find her own apartment... hope that can possibly help some

Brendalee, Since your profile says Boston, I found this
    http://www.ywcaboston.org/berkeley/rates.html

Sure it is the Y, but it beats the street and costs $176 a week but includes breakfast and dinner. You could also try the roomates wanted in the Phoenix. Last I knew CVS paid about $10 an hour in Boston area, so the $176/week appears doable for awhile until she gets on her feet.
