    Default butt question (exercise)

I'm trying to tone up and lose a little weight but I don't want to lose my currently curvey, round butt. I've started doing Pilates and I'm wondering if it's going to make my butt smaller. I've noticed that with Pilates I have to contract my butt for support. Also I was wondering if doing lunges with weights makes the butt smaller. It also seems like when I was running regularly my butt was a little smaller. Anyone else have this problem with exercise making your butt smaller?

    hi there
I posted this before on another thread but think its so good i have to give my input again
my butt has been in sad droopy shape
this.. along with a few other excersizes are really rounding my butt.. its in the best shape of its life

jungle boogie butt - do it to the song jungle boogie from pulp fiction .. but any good song will do

    32 regular squats
    then
    32 one legged squats
    then switch legs and do
32 one legged squats on other leg
    then
8 squats with 3 counts on the down part
    then
8 squats with 3 counts on the up part
    then
    8 regular squats

if you are still aliveand the song is still going
do walking lunges until the song finishes

With any exercise, you will lose the fat stores in the body. Your butt may become smaller, but with toning and weight exercises, it will become more firm and round (you've never seen a weightlifter with a flat ass).

Just remember that when you are working out...do not concentrate on one body part...you need to work out ALL of your body just as much.

Try this its an old fashion exerise but great for your bootie:

Its called donkey kick backs what it is you get on all fours on the ground and you kick back your leg and that works your bootie now you are going to sweat cause you are working the biggiest muscle which is your bootie!

Do about 30 then you are going to leave your leg up and bend it and just raise it up and down do another set of 30 then you are going to lift your leg up but cross it to your other foot to were it touches your other ankle and you lift that works your whole bootie and give you that nice curve in your bootie!

You will feel the burn then do the same to the other side! I do walking lunges also along with one leg lungs and i jog and hit the stair master for 45-50 mins. You will see great results!

    Hope that helped ya!

Just don't go overboard on the squats though. I used them to shape my butt and now I feel rather chunky on the thighs as well. I'm trying to pump up my upper-half now to keep in proportion. But they ARE a great and FAST wat to get your butt back! Definitely recommended!

If you want the greatest butt ever, get the 8 minute buns tape. It is FANTASTIC. (I bought it on Amazon.com for like 8 dollars) My butt wants to get chubby if I don't keep after it, and this is a tape I swear by to use in conjunction with your cardio. It's only 8 minutes but boy is it effective. Also, because it's only 8 minutes you are more likely to do it every day than a longer tape. Good luck!

Pilates - it helps you overall not just your butt. Yet it was the one that was behind the reason why I love my butt so much now (and so do alot of guys)

If you don't want your butt to get smaller as you start a workout program, you must replace the fat which will be disappearing with more muscle ! This requires RESISTANCE, not just repetitive motion. The best way I have found to accomplish this is a TotalGym or other workout machine with bows or weights, which provide additional resistance for squats. The second best way I have found is to use a treadmill with a steep incline.

A friend of mine is training me on the side right now(I'm not part of her regular clientel) and she started me doing walking lunges with a kick back, holding five pound weights;I'm def starting to feel it. I also do the one leg at a time squats because i can feel the muscle in my butt working harder and relying less on my thighs if this makes sence.but i'm toning not tring to build anything, so i do high reps.

how's the pilates working for you? i have an inexpensive home set , but i don't know how beneficial it is being so cheap. but in general are you getting good results?

I forgot to mention that alongside the Pilates (I mix my Pilates workout up.. sometimes a general workout then other days more target-ed workouts)... I also walk (NOT run.. walking does the same as running with less strain on my body) and ride my bicycle.

I find all these together help. A bit of cardio (walking, bicycle) with pilates... will tone up that butt to a nice shape (similiar to Mailbu's avatar pic).

Use the stairclimer at the gym. Honestly I get the most compliments from men and women on my ass. Thought some might be genetics anyone can make their ass look as great as possible with this machine. I SWEAR by it. What a better way to get your cardio session done and sneeking in some toning of your butt.

I started out with just hiking in the gorge. As time went on I bought a pilates dvd, and a month or so later bought a yoga dvd. So I try to do all three of those things 1-2 times a week. In time I'll have more discipline and do them more often per week..hrmm hopefully
What helps is if you find whatever exercise you're doing to be fun. For intstance, a lot of people won't go hiking with me, but will gladly do tae-bo. Additionally, the good breathing habits you pick up from yoga, will help you burn
calories better when you happily catch yourself doing them with other exercise. Good Luck-- cheers to hot-crossed-buns!
