    Default new to the game

Hey everyone, I just turned 18 on sunday and I'm so excited! I've wanted to be a stripper for a while and now I finally get to see it first hand. I went to my first strip club the other night. I loved it! When I first got there one of the strippers pulled me on stage and taught me some moves, haha. I didn't take anything off, although I was tempted to! I have a few questions though that I haven't seen answered anywhere in here.
    - Is starting to strip at 18 a bad idea because you are still so young?
    - I live in Denver and there aren't a lot of clubs here so wherever I work I will probably know people who come in. Is this going to be a big problem for me?
    - This sounds kinda stupid and gross but I've always wondered. What do you do when you are on your period?

Any answers or advice would be great. You all are awesome!

Let's see if I can help you out!

    - Is starting to strip at 18 a bad idea because you are still so young?

Not necessarily. I started dancing a month after I turned eighteen (way back in 1992. . I'm way old!) I danced for a while, went to college, danced some more, got the requisite corporate job, danced some more, ran up some credit card debt, still dancing. I'm 30, have the house, the cars, the kids, the husband, the corporate marketing career and I've still danced on and off for 12 years. I love it!!

    - I live in Denver and there aren't a lot of clubs here so wherever I work I will probably know people who come in. Is this going to be a big problem for me?

That's up to you. Two weeks after I started dancing, one of my high school teachers came into the club. I was completely freaked at first and I hid in the DJ booth, but after a few minutes I got over it and went over to talk to him. I wasn't ashamed of what I was doing and it showed. Besides, HE'S in there, too! Last weekend, I ran into a guy I worked with in the corporate world about four years ago. We had a blast! I've run into a bunch of guys from high school over the years. I think it's always a fun surprise for both parties when it happens, but that's just me

    - This sounds kinda stupid and gross but I've always wondered. What do you do when you are on your period?

One word - TAMPON. If I'm dancing topless, I just (can't say this delicately) cram the string waaay up there. Check yourself often, 'cause those suckers glow under black lights. If I'm dancing nude, I trim the string really short and make sure the tampon itself is really far up there. This can be comical when it comes time to change. Sometimes, I feel like I need to send a search party in after it er:, but you can always get it out. In either case, change it often, especially if your flow is heavy. I put a new one in before every stage set, or every hour or so. When I was younger, my periods were heavier and there were a few times that I just couldn't go in because I was bleeding so much, but that hasn't happened in many years.

Good luck and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Everyone on these boards is just amazing!!

    Hi,
As a guy I tell you we love the new strippers , and if we know her it's even better , if there's not alot of clubs where you live you can get yourself a reputation which means alot regulars and that's what you need REGULARS.
Good luck and if i apps by Denver I'll pay a visit just tell which club are you working at.

I just cut the tampon string and I insert it, then tuck what little there is way up there. I don't really advise cutting it first, because sometimes the string gets a little too short and its really hard to get it back out! Yikes!
P.S. Tampax have the longest strings! lol, but its true!

No, the name of the game is doing this while you look young enough to do so. However, don't get yourself burned out. Take care of your money. Don't assume you'll be dancing for the next ten years so you can spend, spend, spend. Develop a solid financial plan for yourself.

And don't get sucked in by the customers you meet. You are young and some might try to play you. Always remember, it's all about the money. Keep your dancer life and your life separate.
And hang on to your non-dancer friends.

    - I live in Denver and there aren't a lot of clubs here so wherever I work I will probably know people who come in. Is this going to be a big problem for me?

Only if you want to have a 'regular' job and dance at the same time. That might be an issue.

Tampon -- I don't cut the string, I just push it inside and keep tabs on it (especially before stage) to make sure it says that way. I use babywipes when I'm on my period too.

I tend to discourage really young girls away from dancing until they've had to get by on a "regular job." It's really hard to go back to those kind of jobs after you're used to making thousands of dollars, but if you've done it before, you appreciate the money even more. But, since you are thinking about the age thing, you're probably mature enough. Definetely follow Sara's advice and have a specific financial PLAN. Not an idea of what you should save, a specific number or percentage. And save it for real. And have goals for it, whether it's college or a house/car, or investments or a combination, definetely have a map of where you want this to take you.
Seeing as how I have tons of debt in several forms, you'd think I should be the last person to tell you what to do with money--but hindsight is 20/20!

Another thing you might want to do is make a list of what is important to you, and what kind of lines you do and don't want to cross. (in dancing, lifestyle, and life.) Look at it from time to time to keep you from losing your way. (Of course, some things on the list will change with time, but you'll know when and why they should.)

    Good luck!

I'm curious as to why you say this? Many of the highly successful dancers I've ever met were over 25.

One of the things we talk about in our class is that as a dancer, you now have a new bill you MUST pay each month. It's a bill you have to pay just as you do your car payment, rent, electric bill, etc. This new bill is called "savings".

Yes, financial plan!! It's actually really easy to spend spend spend, without realizing how much is going when you get irregular cash daily, as opposed to a job that gives you lump sums on a regular basis.
I've learned in my decade as a dancer, that when you have to make money, you can't, but when every bill is paid, it flows like water! SAVE. In spite of our less profitable times, we still have to eat and pay our rent each month!!

well uh-oh8, i too live in denver and also new to the game.... on giving my two cents on the whole friend/acquaintence thing.... its actually not that bad, ive had guy and girl friends who came in and saw me and they thought it was the coolest thing ever! they actually tipped me much better than anyone else in the club! and they only bought lap dances from me.... i guess its just a familliarity thing but it always seems to work for me... just dont put too much thought into it, it'll only freak you out and scare you, remember, they chose to come in and partake of its splendor, if they see you work there.... then think nothing more about it

I started at 19.... no biggie. A LOT of girls start at 18, summer after HS. (A SURPRISINGLY large number of girls start doing private parties earlier than that). However, if you don't have your act together, then yeah, you'll get caught up in it and screwed whether you're 18 or 28.

Someone seeing you? Hey, it's GONNA happen. Happens to everyone. One way to avoid it -- wear a wig and change your makeup. If you're in a nude club, be sure to shave. I've danced for guys who were in college classes of mine, and they didn't have a CLUE who I was the next day.

My periods are wierd. On alternate months, I'll have an easy one and a rough one. A tampon with the string cut is all I need on the easy months. On the hard months, I call in sick a couple of the heavy days.
