Default Has anyone bolted a pole into a carpet floor?

I want to put a pole into an upstairs carpeted room of our house.

I can actually get one real cheap, but it's the kind that has to be bolted to the floor

If you've done this and then removed the pole- how bad did it screw up the carpet ?

What about the ceiling ? Any issues there ? I know about Lil Mynx and Platnium Stages but I can save several hundreds on this pole so I dunno, I'm conflicted about the carpet thing

No I haven't but since I've been wanting to install one for awhile (garage) I've got a few ideas.

Garage and upstairs carpeted room are totally different but in this case kinda the same because I don't want to drill holes into the concrete floor. My concept is similar to the lil mynx (I think)

What you need for the carpeted floor is a base. Maybe a 2x2 ft. sheet of plywood? I was thinking put some kind of rubber backing underneath to prevent slippage and install the hardware on top to attach the pole. The hardware for the ceiling I believe needs to be drilled into a stud.

Anyhow, that was the idea I came up with but haven't tried. What do you think?

I thought about the garage too but I'm scared of falling & smacking my head on the concrete

I've also thought of a wood base but I fear it would slip on carpet and what would that kind of sideway force do to the ceiling?

Hmm.... I wonder what the no slip feet on the Lil Mynx made out of and can I put something similar on a regular floor mount

Also being that it would be upstairs in a house if I bolted it through the carpet then do I need to look for a stud or something similar in the floor as well ?

You CAN do a base with wood (cover with carpet if you want) and then put the no-slip underneath it. If you do it right, the tension will be enough (from bolting into the stud in the ceiling) that it won't slip. But, you need to have a heavy duty no slip underneath it. You just need to bolt the pole into the ceiling stud...you don't need to do that for the floor.

About the wood base. It's going to need to be thick enough for the bolts to secure into the wood base without sticking out anywhere. Instead of getting a smaller wood base, get a larger area and then cover with carpet or tile. That way, you won't have to worry about ramming your toes into the base, or stepping off of it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

yes I thought of this as well. It can essentially be your stage. From what I recall, the lil mynx base was rather small.

Yeah, it's small, but it's just a "sticky tripod" that holds the pole in place on the floor. So, it's base would be no different than, say, the base at the club.

But, since you need to use a flange to bolt the pole into the floor, the width of the bottom pole automatically expands. You are probably better off making a "little stage" if you do not want to bolt into the carpet. It'll push down a bigger area on the carpet, but once moved, the carpet will go back to normal after a while.

    Hi Isis,

Whatever you do .. be careful..!!

We sell both types you mentioned..
I have a lil Mynx Stainless in my living room. It Rocks!

    Things to consider:
You will need to find a beam/stud in the floor and rafter in the ceiling for safety and stability..
Be careful with wires, and pipes.

If you use a base of wood, make sure it is thick enough not to split along the grain when weight is applied..(pre-drilling the holes will also help)

You might want to consider going to a Home Depot and telling them you are installing a climbing pole for a cat..
    and see what they say..

I have seen several people on SW mention having one of the Lil' Mynx poles and I am wondering if anyone has had the compression mount come loose while you were using it ? It seems a little scary to me that it's only held with one bolt

How does the compression mount work ?

First of all...you don't need a beam/stud in the floor. If you did, how would the lil mynx work? You only need to make sure that you are securly bolting the pole into the ceiling stud...

Yes, go to Home Depot or Lowes and tell them that you are installing a stripper pole. If you tell them that you are installing a climbing pole for a cat...they could give you wrong information...unless you tell them that you are installing a climbing pole for a VERY LARGE cat.

yeah, home depot will not trip if you say you want to install a stripper pole. I've called them before. The guy was more than happy to give me information.
