    Default SMOKING BAN

Hello everybody-its all about the dollar, and freedom of choice, or the right to choose! We as workers in the industry have been thrown a curve ball from the government that will not allow smoking within a license establishment as of June 1/2004.
some clubs in Ontario are going private and only going to allow members now, all that being said is it good for business no say sorry you cant smoke in here you have to smoke outside or you have to leave! the government will charge the club for customers that violate there laws but will probably be easier on the actual customers because they are the voting public. Does anybody have a view on this subject is it right or wrong-let the debate start-the financial kick in the ass starts june 1/2004 and remember alot of patrons do smoke in adult entertainment clubs.

A bunch of Colorado cities have banned smoking in public places such as restaurants.

While I'm sympathetic to the plight of people who need their tobacco, from a purely selfish standpoint, I have to say that the restaurant/bar environments have been much more pleasant places since. Nothing ruins a dining or drinking experience for a nonsmoker quite like having to breathe in bad air.

Here on the Gold Coast.. we are seeing alot of changes. First it is the new 3am closing times (with select clubs allowed to do 'lock in' after 3am until 5am)... thanks to the old mayor. The new mayor is planning to overhaul this stupid little law/rule and allow Gold Coast to trade until 5am again .... YAY!

The new mayor wants to even introduce 7am trading with alcohol stop being served at 5am. I personally am all for that as I experienced what that is like in Melbourne and it can work on Fri/Sat.... besides the strip clubs not having to apply for special licenses when Indy hits town. It will make things easier.

Now the state government (Queensland) is talking about extending its smoking ban. At the moment it is restricted to wherever food is being served. Everyone is fine with this. People can still smoke in pubs, clubs and strip clubs... as long as food is not being served.

The extension will include pubs, clubs and strip clubs... with talk of expanding it even further to include beaches and parks/playgrounds. I'm all for the smoking ban on public beaches and parks/playgrounds.... not for second hand smoke reason but environmental and aesthetic (sp?).

I love going to the beach however am forever walking on sand that is littered with cigarette butts. ARGH! Not to mention the ever present potential that those butts can (and do) get washed out to sea.

As for pubs and clubs (incl. strip clubs)... no way. I wouldn't support that ban... for purely monetary reasons. Alot of punters are still smokers. It would hurt us (the strip clubs here) and we're already hurting.

They want to ban it due to second-hand smoke ... yes it can cause health problems but that is the risk I take with working in a smoke-y environment. If I didn't want to take that risk, I'd work in an office environment or some place else that didn't have that associated risk. That's how I see it.

Yup.. something I can be passionate about...

It would actually be nice to have a smoking ban here (Illinois). I've been burned twice by the drunk moron who insists on waving his cigarette around. One of my dresses was burned...and there is nothing more annoying than walking up to someone to do a dance and they blow an obnoxious cloud of cigar smoke in your face. I had one guy do that to me...I stood there for a second, shocked. Then I turned to walk away and when he grabbed my arm, I told him that I would refuse to do any dances for him being that he had so little respect for me to do that. Bastard. He bitched for a little while, then put his cigar out and I got him up to VIP.

I would love to go to a club that has a smoking ban. I go to dance and I hate dodging drunk/cracked people with cigarettes.

I'm in NY too and I also LOVE the ban!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most clubs and bars have a place where people can go out on a porch or courtyard or out front and they;ll mark their hand so they can come back in.

It's sssooooo nice to come home and not be gagging from the smell of my clothes and hair, or have my eyes be itchy and blurry!

I also go to clubs to dance, and it's nice to end up with cigarette burns on my arms from drunken assholes on packed dance floors!

OOh I'm in NY and I HATE the ban. Nevermind government telling business owners what clientelle to cater to, bottom line is that it has hurt business. Not just in the strip club section either. Bar business is down 40-50%. Waivers on the ban are slow coming-so slow that it's not saving some businesses in time. A study was done that shows most people who go out for a smoke, don't bother coming back in-they walk. Not good for a business that survives by keeping customers IN the establishment.
I love not smelling like smoke, but when given the choice to smell like smoke and have more money potential, or not, I'll go home and take a shower. I can only hope the warmer weather helps things-as I know the cold certainly didn't.

I've observed the same thing in clubs with strict no-smoking bans. Usually in every group of guys that come into the club there are at least 1 or 2 who smoke. Because of this, the entire group seems to come in with a plan of having just a couple of drinks, a couple of lap dances, and leaving within an hour or so.

This has changed the club "paradigm" in several ways. First, there's much more of a rush involved than in the old days. Guys no longer invest 30-60 minutes stageside for tipping and "shopping" and no longer invest 30-60 minutes tableside talking with dancers - instead of picking a girl based on personality after some investigation, they tend to pick girls quickly based on first impression. This tends to place less importance on a girl's conversational skills and personality, and instead place more importance on her appearance - particularly on aspects of her appearance which make her immediately "stand out" when viewed from across the room ! Welcome to MacLapdance !

The smoking ban and resulting 1 hour typical customer stay in the club also means that it's now nearly impossible to hook up with two or three guys and wind up selling them 10 lap dances in a row to make your night. Instead you wind up having to sell private dances 2-3-4 at a time to many more customers in order to arrive at the same total.

IMHO, I'd much rather smell like smoke and money at the same time !

All the bars, clubs and stripclubs have been under a smoking ban here in California for several years and it's become quite a positive.

Out here, it's not so much an issue since the weather, even in the middle of the morning, is fairly nice. Some clubs prepared for it and created dedicated smoking lounges, which most laws make allowances for (i.e. a unique area with no employees a certain distance from things). The rest usually park a bouncer on a stool near a specific emergency exit and setup ashtrays just outside and convert the area into a place to hang out.

On the positive side, it's much more healthful for the workers, plus the smell no longer permeates everyone in these clubs. Another hidden positive has been the smoking areas have become quite the social areas since most clubs prior didn't have a quiet, away place to take a few minutes to get away from the noise and chat. These areas now fill with just as many non-smokers as smokers as it's a cool place to hang out and find some peace and quiet while socializing for a few minutes before returning back in.

How well a smoking ban goes over will totally depend on each individual club's way of preparing for it. If proper preparations are made, it's a big positive for all involved, including smokers. If a club makes next to no preparations, and doesn't accomodate their smoking customers well, it will obviously have a negative impact on their business.
It doesn't matter if you're somebody in this world, it rather matters you mean the whole world to somebody.

    I may seem like a drama-queen saying this, but it's a hyperbole...

I'd rather lose a few businesses than lose my life due to secondhand smoke!

I love smoking bans, though it is not banned here in Phoenix (YET). I can't stand smoke, especially cigarette smoke. I also find it very unatractive when a women smokes.

I imagine nice weather makes a difference, unfortunately, NY (especially upstate NY) is not known for it's nice weather-quite the opposite actually. Another slap in the face for business owners is that they are not allowed to create smoking areas. In fact, if any area has a "roof" of any sort, people are not allowed to smoke there. This even includes overhangs. So there wasn't much that business owners could do to "prepare". If a waiver is granted, they then can develop a employee-free smoking section-however as stated before, waivers are slow coming.

Definitely not aimed at you polecat-but that seems to defeat the purpose-to create a ban to protect employees and non-smokers from second-hand smoke, yet non-smokers go hang out with smokers WHILE they're smoking?
I remember thinking that same thing when years ago I used to work at a company that had two break rooms-one for smokers and one for non-smokers, yet the non-smokers would always be in the smoking room while the non-smoking room would be empty. Go figure.

There used to be a bar in the Rochester area that had been strictly non-smoking. It went under. I guess I figure if there is a demand for something-the natural process of supply and demand will come through. If enough people demanded non-smoking bars, they would be in exsistance (and survive). Instead, another law is passed to force owners to cater to a certain clientele in the name of employee safety. I just wonder how safe these employees feel now that they are out of a job in an already struggling economy. And while the government has stepped in to control their business, they haven't done anything to help them with this struggle.

Since the smoking ban went into effect in CT April 1st, business has been down! This might be due to the arrival of spring, but it's none the less noticable. The girls still smoke in the dressing room. It wouldn't be practical to have the girls change every time they had to go outside for a cig.

I prefer the less smoky atmosphere, as I quit last fall. But still, the drop in money is hard to swallow.
