    Default Old School funk

Recently I am falliing in love with old r&b and funk, It is so fun to dance to. Does anyone know of any cool songs like this?

    "Cutie Pie" One way
"Give it to me baby" Rick James
    "Lovergirl" Teena Marie
    "Candy" Cameo

Any suggestions would be helpful. I am loving this type of music and don't want songs to get played out so the more diversity to choose from the better. Thanks guys!!

LILAC THANK YOU!!! I have been missing that song (Candy) for ages! That's great to revive some good memories!

    Other ideas:

    Jazzy Jeff/Fresh Prince - Summertime
Missy Elliot - Old School Joint
Michael Jackson - (look at his Off the Wall album. I have danced to a lot of these tracks)

I'll think of some more. My brain is a little stale as I'm in rock-music mode these days. I'll be back when I remember!

The commadores have some great songs (Brickhouse, Lady), and Wild Cherry's version of Play That Funky Music is fun. Steppenwolf and Bad Company get me going, too.

I always liked you, Blade, but now I am really impressed. Few give credit where it is due.

Fuck James Brown. Compared to the true inventor of funk, George Clinton, he is a chimpanzee, hopping around and screeching incoherently.

Without George--the driving force behind Parliament, Funkadelic, The P-Funk All Stars, and the guy who got Bootsy started--the rappers of today would be nothing. If I had to pick a favorite musician, it might well be him. Though the techno DJs are putting out some fantastic stuff.

George also penned the immortal phrase, "Free your mind and your ass will follow", which I had made into a banner at my own expense--and hang in the dressing room of any club I work in that will allow it.

Here are some of my favorite funk tracks...

"Take it to the Stage"--my all-time favorite
"Tear the Roof off the Sucker (Give up the Funk)"
    "Last Dance"
"All She Wanted was a Quickie"
"Standing on the Verge of Gettin' it On"
"Mathematics"--will have to be cut short in SCs--contains a great line:"Any percentage of you, is as good as the whole pie..."

more obscure, but good if you like him a lot...

    "Comin' Round the Mountain"
    "Brettino's Bounce"
    "One Nation Under a Groove"
"Undisco Kidd"--not quite as good for SC use, and a bit long, but a great track nonetheless
"Cool Joe"--a bit slower, but very funky, with a humorous anti-'blow' message
"R & B Skeletons in the Closet"--not his best dance track, but if you like George, you'll love it

    By other funk bands...

"More Bounce to the Ounce", by Zapp--I use this phrase to describe 'The Rising Star', Vanity
    "Money Talks", "Holy Ghost", Bar-Kays
    "Fancy Dancer" Commodores

Uh-oh, there is a lot more, but I have to run, will post layer...

You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.
    Friedrich Nietzsche

Free your mind, and your ass will follow.
    George Clinton

    Your kidding right??

Ask george where he learned about music,he will say from watching james Brown blaze the trail in front of him..
Ask george why he copied KISS when it comes to stage shows.
George had 2 hit songs, atomic dog and tear the roof.
    parlament had 1,flashlight.
    pfunk-none
James brown had 50+ hit songs, many hitting #1.

Both are great artist, but one would never have been possible without the other, even george would admit it.

Even today,if they both went on tour, wanna bet who would sell out the entire tour?
