IEXPLORER.EXE is the Internet Explorer. You SHOULD have one of these if you have a browser window open.
The key is to close ALL browser windows, then launch the task manager and see if there are still IEXPLORER.EXE processes running. Many trojans and pop-up marketing schemes function this way. They actually launch an "invisible" browser that you cannot see, some launch as many as 5-40 invisible browsers that you cant see and are doing things invisibly.
Also look for processes like "TimeSynchronize.exe" in the process list. And check Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to see if you have "DealHelper" or "ClientMan" listed as programs that you never installed!
Some of these are nice enough to put uninstall's in Add/Remove programs, but they install themselves without your knowledge.
Check Task Manager with all your stuff closed and see what ya got!
It doesn't matter if you're somebody in this world, it rather matters you mean the whole world to somebody.
i just use aol as my browser and don't let ie open...ever

I have something called Spyware Begone. It supposedly cleans all those nasty things that slow down your comp and I use Netscape's popup killer. Works well so farTry it!

hrmm.. Not really recommended nor can you really anyways as it still leaves a bunch of it's crap behind when removed.Originally Posted by Lexi link=board=1;threadid=9427;start=msg112728#msg1127 28 date=1085193508
Spyware Begone, Adaware, Spybot Search&Destroy and a host of others are pretty good, but usually too slow on updates to really be completely useful. You should definately get one, but you'll still get spyware here and there. If a new piece of spyware came out today, it might be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months before the above programs get an update to detect it, remove it or protect against it.
Those are good things. Those are the updates from Microsoft when using Windows Update. When you download and install a new security patch from Microsoft, it usually puts a "Windows XP Hotfix" in the Add/remove for it, in case it causes problems. Also, when I check my control panel, I have a BUNCH of things titled "Windows XP Hotfix"
If your PC is a laptop, the most common cause for slowdowns with recent XP service packs is mobile CPU's actually clocking down randomly. If you have a laptop, try right-clicking "My Computer", select Properties and look under Computer on the "General" tab. Make sure the two CPU speeds are fairly close. If the lower number is dramatically lower than the top, you have this issue.
It might say:
Computer:
Intel(R)
Pentium 3 1200mhz
750mhz
512MB of RAM
This tells you your 1200mhz CPU is running at 750mhz! Recent XP patches mess up a number of laptops to think they are running on batteries (where they do clock down a bit) instead of plugged in. It doesnt hurt to check this if you use a mobile computer.
It doesn't matter if you're somebody in this world, it rather matters you mean the whole world to somebody.
Lexi those are Windows update files--patches for holes the worms and such attack. You want those.

Much, much better than IE.
Lexi, It is kind of like the computer is leaving a cabinet door open because it is likely to use something from the cabinet again.
(I know this is not 100% correct, but I was trying to come up with a real world analogy)
From what you said you are running DSL and it may have a library open so it can get stuff as well. Unless they are real busy a lot, they are probably benign things.

Some process is using it. Right click your taskbar, click Task Manager, then click the processes tab. Go through it and end all the processes you can (Critical ones won't end, so don't worry). Then try deleting it again. Also, what Antivirus software you have? Is it up to date?Originally Posted by Lexi link=board=1;threadid=9427;start=msg112771#msg1127 71 date=1085204727
EDIT: Okay, Norton AV it is. Make sure it's up to date. Run liveupdate.
(In Task Manager, look for anything that isn't an .exe file running, i ended up with a .DLL in there once)
Let me know if this works, if not i'll have you try something else.
Google says sysupd.exe is spyware. Try using spybot or Adaware (UPDATE therm first)
Here is how to get rid of it.
Sysupd.exe is a known dialer and also accompanies dpusys.ini usually found on the desktop, but known to other locations as well.
To get rid of it, end process on sysupd.exe. Make sure that you are set to see all hidden system files and folders.
Search your hard drive for the following SYSUPD.EXE and DPUSYS.INI.
Delete all found instances of these files.
Reboot!!

Yes.![]()
Yep Lexi.. Kill it anyway. Don't worry about the warnings. The really important processes that are running won't let you quit them if they're critically needed.

Just FYI...
Adaware
Spybot
These work like AV software, but nuke spyware instead. Spybot tends to not like working with Adaware, though, so it's a hassle having both of them installed. Worth it though.
Just a piece of advice if you don't want marketing companies getting details of your surfing habits.
Try rebooting and doing it again. Then try the software i listed above. Dialers like to fight removal and can sometimes be a pain in the azz.Originally Posted by Lexi link=board=1;threadid=9427;start=msg112797#msg1127 97 date=1085208007
